Brooks Hyperion Max 3 - nylon plate helps with stability, still gives stack for the distance, foam has some pop and the heel lock down is great
I (F39) liked hyp max 2 more than 3 (ran marathon in them 3:44), was super excited for 3 but they hurt me. I did like brooks Hyperion elite and ran a half in them (1:39), and will run a full in them next week. I would also recommend Asics Sonicblast - great light plated shoes for short picks ups/tempo runs. I ran 14mi tempo in them and regretted (knee joints felt meh afterwards) but shorted intervals are great in them (the other day I ran mile repeats 7:10 and 6:50 instead of 7:40 bc I didnât even feel the pace).
I really don't think you need carbon, and while it might help you might prefer comfort over carbon. I've ran 2 marathons at that pace in Saucony endorphin speed 2s. The Brooks hyperion max 3 offers massive comfort with efficiency, it's just a tad heavy.
Given your stability concerns, I would look at the Saucony Hurricane 25. Excellent cushion and above average energy return. If you donât need a specific stability focused shoe, I would give the Brooks Hyperion Max 3 a try. Iâve had mine for a couple months now and theyâre great!
Iâve been running for the past 3 years, without any real goal or structure. Last year I got more serious about it and was recommended two pairs of running shoes. One of them was Cloud, which I used for a half marathon, and my right ankle was completely wrecked after the race. I also had a pair of Hyperion Max 3 from Brooks that I bought at the same time, but I used those for higherâpace sessions. In December I got runnerâs knee, and Iâve trained my way back to being able to run for 1 hour on a treadmill, but using some Asics shoes (Gel Phoenix) that donât have as much drop as the Brooks shoes. Today I went for a run and only noticed towards the end that these Brooks shoes are extremely unstable for me. Iâm also on the heavier side at 90 kg, so that might play a role in the assessment. Either way, Iâm looking for a stable shoe. As you can see from the clip, I overpronate, and the instability goes first to the ankle, then up to the knee, and then to the hip. I need recommendations for other shoes I can use without injuring myself. Ideally i want to run a halvmarathon in september. Goal is 1:40. Last year i did 1:45. Thanks in advance.
Seconding Brooks HM3. Itâs shaped exactly like Nike ZF6 but with a nylon plate, so can be used for all runs essentially. I use them for 90% of my runs at the moment
I've done a few tempos in mine. Tried a long (long for me right now ) run today. They did not disappoint!
Iâm a bit larger 105kg, 6â5â, and size 15, but I run very similar paces as you so I think I can help quite a bit. I am A mid foot to forefoot runner as an fyi. I have tried a lot of different temp shoes and my favorite that I have tried have oddly enough been the Brooks Hyperion Max 2 and Max 3s. I definitely like the Max 2s more, RIP, but they were amazing for both a tempo run, but versatile enough to take them out for a long runs. The only shoe on your list that I have tried so far is the adidas Bostonâs. I had tried the 12s and the were awesome as a daily trainer and when I wanted to pick it up a little, but the Hyperion Maxâs just felt like the were a little easier to sustain the higher paces in
I was fortunate enough to get about 600km out of the first pair of Hyperion Max 2s bought a second pair and those are sitting at 330km. I got the Hyperion Max 3s in hopes that it would be super similar, but with the Brooks DNA Gold they are vastly different shoes. I just got the Max 3s a couple weeks ago so I havenât put too many miles on them yet to give them a proper review. One thing I will say is that the Max 2s wonât force you to go fast, but they will help you when you want to. The Hyperion Max 3s from my couple of runs with them only want to go fast
Took the Hyperion Max 3 out for a 8km Base run this morning where I had some intervals of picking up the pace just so I could try and provide better feedback, and unfortunately I do think the Max 2 was the better tempo option. The Max 3 definitely doesnât want to go slow, but it also definitely doesnât want to sprint by any means. It felt like it would be a great option for longer runs where you are getting close to race pace or something slightly faster than your daily mileage, but definitely not for anything super speedy like the Hyperion Max 2 could handle
