Wide shoes for marathon I’m struggling to find a good pair/rotation for me. I’m 183cm/6ft, 90kg/200lbs, Size EU48/US13 flat and very wide feet from mid and forefoot. Fore-/Midfoot striker. In most shoes my foot falls over the midsole from midfoot. Currently running with hoka skyflow size 48 2E. They are bit narrow and causes blisters to the arch of my feet. Clifton 9 2E have fit best in the past. I have tried evo sl and Boston 13 in store but they were way too narrow from midfoot. I’m looking for a rotation for marathon training. I’ve had only one pair of running shoes until now. Easy pace 6:30min/km, target pace for marathon 5:30min/km. Also goal is to run sub 20min 5k and sub 45min 10kthis year. Any suggestions?

Thanks! I have taught about new balance a lot but unfortunately they don’t sell wide versions in store in my country so I haven’t been able to test them myself. Are you happy with your rotation? Also how have the rebels held up? I’m very interested about actually your whole rotation but I’m worried about the durability of the rebels. Also the sc trainer and elite are stupid expensive in Europe.

Thanks. I think new balance is way to go. I’m always dreaming about shoes that every one talks about (superblast megablast etc.) but will not fit my feet. Have you tried Topo or Altra? I’ve always been very sceptical about them.

Yeah it’s annoying that there are only few viable options to choose from. And it’s quite hard to find wide options in Europe. For example I can’t find a site that delivers novablast in wide to my country. I have to try the evo sl again in store cause many people have said that they fit quite wide. Thanks for help!

Hoka for me have wide options I got a clifton 10 and are a good fit with a mach 6. Of course I rotate them but if you have to choose clifton 10 would be phenomenal. Unfortunately I bought clifton 9 knock offs and they give me plantar fascitis so I use them to occasionally walk but other than that if you dont have a budget choose clifton 9 originals.

I felt the same thing in wide Clifton 9s but after a while it breaks in it’s like they widened the toe box only . If you try a nova blast or super blast you’ll get the width you want IMO

You're my sole mate. Have three pairs of Clifton 9s (wide), and ordered a second pair of Mafate speed 4s when I realized there were not going to be a new gen of speeds (right now at least). 80km into my first Challengers (7 ATR, wide) which I really enjoy too.

Agree with other poster, go to a store that specializes in running shoes and have them help you find something that fits your feet. If you can afford it, but two different models from two different brands and feel your way towards what works for you. With that said, I have wide forefoot and have found Hoka wide versions to work well for me (Clifton 9s, Challenger 7 ATRs). Wide versions of Saucony Triumph 22s, New Balance Rebel 4s have also been great.

Hi all, I’m sure this has been asked quite a few times but can I please get some advice of what I should get for my shorter runs? Here's my profile: • Frequency: 3 times a week At the moment it is 5-6 km’s twice a week (mostly Monday and Wednesday) and then a longer run on the weekend. • Total Volume: \~20-30km per week • Workout Split: 1-2 tempo runs, 1 ‘easy’ run. The two shorter runs are generally tempo runs but I tend to try to slow down the easy/long run. The long run isn’t a pure Zone 2 run but I am working on trying to slow down. Think of it between a Zone 2 and a tempo. Long run is anywhere between 10 to 25 km’s, with having two young kids means that the length of the run is dictated by time available. • Pace: Fairly new runner, my pace is usually around \~5:15min/km for the tempo ones and 5:40ish for the longer ones. I haven’t done any interval running but open to it if it can replace one of my shorter runs • Weight: around 80-85 kg • Current shoes: two pairs of ASICS Superblast 2’s. One is fairly new (probably around 50k’s done in them, bought about a month ago. The other has definite signs of wear and tear as it was my only running shoe for quite some time (done at least 2 marathons in them and countless half maras). Previous shoe I used before the Superblast 2’s was Hoka Clifton 9’s but I had bad blisters on both feet using them. I did size up but it seems with my readings that the Hoka’s have a narrow toe box. After a second pair of shoes to replace one of my two Superblast pairs. Was tempted to get the Novablast 5’s but seems rather mixed reviews on this sub. Happy to try other brands if it means no blisters (as in the shoe can accommodate wider feet)

I have one pair of trail I use a couple times a year. I usually only wear one pair of road until I have an egregious number of miles on them (I’ve pushed two pairs to 700 miles). But I’ve been running more marathons and I like a fresh pair of shoes for each race, so I have one pair of hoka Clifton 8 that I don’t like that has 500 miles, a pair of Clifton 9 that has 370 miles from my spring marathon, and my current pair of Clifton 9 for my marathon next week that has about 100 miles. I also usually switch between Clifton and brooks glycerin, but Clifton’s have been serving me well for my PRs lately and I guess I’ve been hesitant to change (based on my last three pairs lol).
