I run at OPs pace too and I think I can make some sense into what he's saying. I followed the general advice to use comfortable shoes for my 20 miler and I blew up at my goal race pace, 7:05/km within 10km despite being able to run the half at 6:40/km pace with no issues. The only difference were the shoes I used. I used the Neo Vista 1 and it felt like it sucked up all my energy and my legs were dead early on. While I had no problem maintaining a faster pace with my 361 flame 2.5 lol.
I guess people don't like to try something a little different. The majority of runners will just buy Nike or Adidas etc without thinking. I wore the NV1 pacing my wife to a 3:42 Mara at Sydney a few weeks back & I honestly can't think of a better shoe to run at that pace - comfortable with the right amount of pop.
Mizuno Neo Zen 1 and Vista 1 where really fun shoes for me. No idea for stability, they have a high stackheight
Love my Vista 1’s and Zens. Will eventually pickup a pair of Vista 2’s when my second pair of the 1’s is done. I’m curious to see if anyone chimes in with thoughts on the WRP Low.
I have the Nike Vomero Plus and the Asics Nimbus. The Vomero Plus is what the Nimbus should have been. The ZoomX midsole is compliant and bouncy compared to the EVA midsole in the Nimbus. According to RunRepeat, the weight difference is negligible between the two shoes. Prefer the Vomero for long runs. Nike is always offering discounts. I have the Neo Zen and the Neo Vista 1 & 2. Uppers on Mizuno work well for me but can be problematic for some people. Neo Vista 2 is another great long run cruiser. With a TPU upper layer of midsole foam the Vista 2 is fun and offers excellent impact protection.
I have the Neo Vista 1, Neo Zen, Wave Sky 9 and two Neo Vista 2s. I converted my Wave Sky 9 to a walking shoe since I’m on my feet at work all day and they’re supportive and comfortable. Neo Vista 2 is my favorite Mizuno running shoe. Went 1/2 size down. If you enjoy the Neo Zen you will not be disappointed. Definitely 💯 percent worth a try.
I have Neo Zen's, Vista 1 and 2, Wave Rider 29 and Wave Sky 9. As the commenter below stated, the Wave Rider 29 is definitely the most traditional but I can't stress enough how different they are the Wave Rider 28. They CRUSHED IT with the foam in the 29. It's SO comfortable. I bought a 2nd pair in a more neutral colorway just to wear to work.

I’m 6’1 205. Weightlifting background. Very similar fitness to you and I really enjoy the mizuno neo vistas. Haven’t tried the update but gen 1s can be had for about $100 depending on your size. I’m also a midfoot striker.
Superblast2 and NeoVista1 (both great while sooo different)
SB2 - stiff, hard, great energy return but need to be "slammed" into ground, NV1 - ultrasoft, rolling as natural movement (soft but rockered, i like them even more when its cold) , absolutely no energy return, both - great uppers (but its personal)
yes, why not. If You prefer bore built, plush upper (inside) NB is good choice, if You liked Neo Zen upper the forst Neo Vista is my recovery slow shoe (not bouncy, very soft)
