I actually really enjoy Wave Rebellion Flash 2
Not sure if the rocker is large enough for what you are looking for but I race in Salomon s/lab phantasm 2, they fit my running style well. For context I run best in a shoe with a decent rocker, ie ASICS Gel Noosa Tri and Wave rebellion flash 2
Mizuno Wave Rebellion Flash 2 is $80 at Sierra for women’s sizing (believe 1.5 up for men’s is what I settled on). This shoe is the epitome of aggressive geometry for a non-racing shoe.
Yeah it absolutely sings on a midfoot strike. Heel and forefoot strikers should pass on this but when you hit the ground in-line with where the plate slants down you get catapulted forward as aggressively as an Alphafly. OP said nothing about stable, so if that’s a consideration… also a pass
I ran with this on a 10k fun run and I was running faster than I ever ran before. It’s perfect for my midfoot strike. My ankles seemed to suffered the damage from too much aggresiveness of it as I was already limping 200m before the finish line due.
360° Flame ST 2, I love my shoe rotation, but honestly didn't expect this Chinese brand to beat the 'big boys'. It's a carbon shoe, but doesn't beat your legs up, and at the same time faster than my Endorphin Pro 4, Zoom Fly 6, and Wave Rebellion Flash 2.
Probly 50-50 plated and non plated. Some quicker, lighter shoes like mizuno flash or kinvara are great too. It’s madness doing everything fast in plate shoes. I think you lose any race day benefit feel In general I completely mix up my shoe types. Lots of superblast time, altras (ultra low drop), plate shoes and recovery style shoes. Even a bit of time barefoot. I think the injury mitigation has been a big factor - late 40s and keen to avoid injury
