Mizuno waverider 26 are my fav pair of shoes that I own for my long runs and race days.
I love my wave rider 26s. I recently tried on the 28s and 29s, but didn't care you for much cushion they added. So now I'm giving the Inspire 21s a spin. The 26s have far outlasted two pairs of Hokas, in terms of time and mileage.
I have a few pairs of mizuno wave riders that absolutely refuse to die and every time I think I should probably retire them I go for a run in them and they still feel fine.
Not many people ever seem to recommend them but one of my favourite long run, comfortable, not racy shoes that just never die and take a pounding are Mizuno Waveriders.
I have run plenty of miles in both Saucony Rides and Mizuno Wave Riders and would 100% endorse both as really good “normal” running shoes.
ASICS gt 2000, ASICS kayano, Mizuno wave rider or wave creation, they don’t last in my opinion, but I find them comfortable.
Not exactly cheap but I really like Mizuno Wave Riders. They have a durable outsole.
For years and years and years (like, literally 2ish decades, since I was a freshman in high school), I've worn Mizuno Wave Riders. I recently needed a new pair after blowing through my stash of "several years old" versions, and I figured that rather than just ordering online, I'd do it through the local running store to support them. Turns out they don't carry Mizunos. They carry lots of cool/hip brands, but no "lame/boring" ones like Mizuno. They had to check their system to see if they could be ordered, and turns out they could be sourced because at least the supplier they use does offer Mizunos. They went through lots and lots of hoops and did manage to order me the Wave Riders. So all-in-all, really great customer service, and I super appreciate it! But I was definitely surprised that they didn't carry pretty much one of the most popular and boring regular running shoes of all time, and that apparently so few people come in seeking them that they had to jump through some hoops to figure out how to get them. I'm really happy they were able to do that for me, I was just... surprised!
I've had wave riders for the past few years after switching from asics, then earlier in the year gave saucony a shot. They started well but didn't take long to fall out of favour with them, so I've gone back and got a new pair of wave riders.
I just went back to the Mizuno wave rider from the ASICS Nova Blast for daily trainer. I used Mizuno wave rider up until I started training for marathons a few years ago and I wish I would have just stuck with the simplicity of the wave rider. (I tired Ons, Altras, Nova Blast etc)
Add the New Balance 1080 v14 into the mix. So comfortable and I love running in them. For a bit more support and more heel to toe drop the Mizuno Wave Rider series have been a consistently strong option for a while. Both would fit a medium to narrower foot, not sure about a wide foot. Runrepeat have reviews that cover the breathability of the shoes they test so you can look there for how they might do in warmer weather.
Mizuno Wave Rider is nearly always the answer for narrowest heel folks. Don't be sticking your fingers behind your heel. Put the shoe on, knock your heel back. Always use back/runners knot lacing. Have someone else fee your toes while standing.
