My daily is the Mizuno Wave Rider 29 and it’s been great. 10mm drop.
It's literally YMMV. I used to run exclusively in firm shoes, now all of my shoes are soft and I much prefer them this way. I have Neo Vista for long runs, Endorphin Pro4 for speedwork and Wave Rider 29 for daily/gym. All varying degrees of soft, responsive shoes that I feel are the sweet spot for me.
Had the Speed4, the EvoSL, the Bostons (11-13) and can confidently state that I didn't enjoy any of them for various reasons: \- Speed4; firm, upper fit issues \- EvoSL; not fun at Z2 paces, upper fit issue \- Boston13; really slappy in the heel I did a bit of travelling over the summer and brought my Mizuno Wave Rider 29s with me, and they were excellent for every type of run. Subjectively, I think they look great too. They're a true do-it-all daily.
Neo Vistas are great for heel strikers - i've about 250km on mine and they're still going strong. The Vista2 get highly rated as good long run shoes. I'm a broken record at this point, but can't emphasise how good the Wave Rider 29 is, too. They are my wear-for-everything shoes currently. Not a fan of the EvoSLs - they felt weird unless i was pushing the pace.
I just posted a review of the Mizuno Wave Rider 29 [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/RunningShoeGeeks/s/ITrKm7DgOv). I can highly recommend these - I feel my heel slipping in several brands, most noticeably in Saucony. No issues here
I used to be you; wore Inspires for many years. I took advice from a podiatrist who basically dismissed the need for stability-specific shoes, and recommended I go with what's most comfortable. I've tried loads of different brands and shoe types over the last few years and have settled on Adidas for racing/workouts, but Mizuno fit my feet best for everything else. I highly recommend the new Riders - they are super-comfortable and are supportive when the mileage gets high or fast
They're most likely just going to hurt - they're forcing your foot into a position that may not be natural for it. The most sympathetic support shoe to lower arches are the Mizuno Inspire, but they're dull to run in. Go try a few pair of shoes on and go with what's comfortable. You might be better in a more traditional drop (10mm); Brooks Ghost, Mizuno Rider, Puma Magnify are all great shoes.
Mizuno was never in my sights, but a few years ago they revolutionized their range and I started following them, I couldn't resist and bought the Neo Zen, I'm absolutely thrilled with it, it's a great shoe overall, if it doesn't break I'll be buying more of its iterations. I also tried the latest Wave Rider 29 and liked it, I might buy that too, but I'd rather wait for the next iteration. Mizuno is a brand worth following now
I prefer firmer shoes, so our tastes may differ. Saucony Endorphin Speed or Azura, Adidas Boston 12 or 13, are best for me. Someone mentioned Mizuno. Their Wave Rider 29 is a very good all-rounder, probably better for a newer runner than the above. Puma Velocity Nitro 4 and Nike Vomero Plus are too narrow for me, but both are good shoes. For longest lasting-- Asics Superblast 2, now on sale for $150 now that the 3 is out. But go to Asics site and get the welcome code, bringing them down to $135.
I have had some great luck with the latest iteration of the mizuno wave rider. About 150 miles in and I still keep grabbing for it as my daily.
I have just bought the wave rider 29, mainly because they fit my slightly wide feet unlike asics or adidas or Nike….anyway I’m a midfoot striker and found the shoe was pretty clunky and thought maybe it was because it was new and needed to break in. But towards the end of my run for some reason I decided to run with a very slight heel strike and suddenly the shoe completely changed and it was softer and rolled through really nicely.
Mizuno wave rider in green/sage looks pretty good. Stable. Not the most exciting shoe and not for front foot strikers, but otherwise a pretty good shoe
1. Mizuno Wave Rider 29 2. Superblast 2 3. Nike Vaporfly 4 3. Puma Velocity Nitro 4 4. Nike Vomero Plus Shoes I didn’t hate: NB Rebel v5, Metaspeed Edge Paris, NB Novablast 5, EVO SL
Hi! I have a wide toebox and recently got myself a pair of MIZUNO Wave Rider 29,so far the best shoe ive ever had! So,yeah,i would recomend that. For context i had a ASICS Novablast 4 and Salomon thundercross, but they were a bit tight
Hard to give specific advice since everyone's feet are different, but I'll share my experience running with flat feet in general. I have always used custom orthotics with my flat, wide feet (no plantar fascilitis) in neutral shoes that have a bit of stability (look up stable neutral, as coined by Doctors of Running). Stuff like Brooks Dyad (RIP), Ghost 17, Mizuno Wave Rider 29, all in 2E width. Sizing up by 1/2 has generally worked well when 2E is not available for a shoe. Have been running for a few years now. I have been working with a PT in recent months to slowly wean off the orthotics, as they deemed it suitable since I pronate the same amount with and without them. The strategy is to start with a 1-2 easy runs a week without them, and slowly transition into doing long runs, and eventually, all runs without them over 12 months. To address your question, I would lean towards using stable neutral shoes. When I first tried my custom orthotics for running in the Adrenaline, the combined stability from the shoe and the orthotic ended up putting way too much pressure on my arches - which is when my podiatrist recommended Brooks Dyad instead. I think Brooks Ghost Max is meant to be the spiritual successor to the Dyad as an orthotic friendly shoe, so it may be worth looking into that as well. Hope this helps
At your mileage, pick any traditional daily trainer. I have Brooks Ghost 17 and Mizuno Wave Rider 29 and both are fantastic. From Q3 of the RSG wiki: Q3: I am a new runner who has just started and I mostly do 5k runs. Which daily trainer would you recommend? A: These are all-rounders that can be used for everything (some speed runs, some long runs, etc.) but do not excel in one category. They will be sufficient enough for your starting needs. Possible daily trainers: Adidas * Adizero SL2 Asics * Gel-Nimbus 27 * Gel-Cumulus 27 Brooks * Ghost 17 * Glycerin 22 Hoka * Clifton 10 Mizuno * Neo Cosmo * Wave Rider 29 New Balance * 880v15 * 1080v14 Nike * Pegasus 41 Puma * Velocity Nitro 4 Saucony * Ride 18 * Triumph 23
This! I also tried both and the WR29 is so eficient. No brainer for me
