Based on 1 year's data from Mar 23, 2026 How it works
I'm 192cm and 95kg running mainly 1080 v12 but finding them totally flat after 300km which is quite to quick; I was expecting at least 500km from them. Considering to invest in Superblast 2 as the next main shoe, also I ordered Adidas Boston 12 to give a try. Not sure how v14 is better from 12 as 13 is way too soft for me as getting ankle pain
I ran my first marathon in 4 hours 45 minutes in New balance 1080 v13. I highly recommend them. I tried the nike invincible 3 and novablast 4 in my long runs, but the 1080s were just perfect, comfortable and stable.
Puma magnify and magmax, Saucony Endorphin Azura (just came out), Novablast 5, Hoka Mach 6, (narrow foot friendly for sure), Tyr Maverick V1 are all lighter and protective but not mushy from my personal experience/research. The 1080v13 and v14 is also my go to casual/walking shoe and they increased the weight quite a bit from one to the other. But even then the 13 was a bit of a slog for me. I think modern trainers have the ability to pick up the pace and protect you on slower runs as well.
i got the v13, ang init sa paa. hoping they fixed it in v14
NB 1080 V13 lasted 800km for me. Outsole was still good, but lost its bounce/softness.
My new balance 1080 v13 are like a cloud. I haven't tried the v14's, so I can't speak for them. But I find myself grabbing the 1080's whenever I want to float.
My easy pace wearing 1080's is generally a 9:30/mile
My daily is the NB Rebel (v4, haven’t tried v5 yet). I have a lot of other shoes too though. Still love my 1080v13s for easy days.
I’m a slower runner, so caveat emptor. Right now my rotation is basically three shoes. NB Rebel v4 for shorter tempo runs where I want some ground feel, NB 1080s when I want to go super easy, and the ASICS Megablast for everything else. The rebels have been great and were dirt cheap so I got two pair. The Megablast I got slightly used on r/therunningrack and they’ve been a real surprise. They are great for any pace from slow to sprinting for me and the cushioning and bounce is surprisingly good.
The two shoes I use for this are the Adidas Supernova Rise, and the New Balance 1080. My wife loves her Ghost Max 2s for this also.
I did my first marathon with new balance 1080 v13s at 6’0 and 215 lbs
New Balance 1080 v13 Very soft. With my purchase of the novablast 5, I’ve moved the 1080 to the recovery slot.
Good luck! Wear the ES4s and you’ll get the sub 2 no doubt. I only wear my 1080s when I’m not racing. They, for me, are strictly for easy miles. I wore my ES4s during both my marathons last year and while my body was trashed, my feet felt good throughout the run.
The NB 1080v13 are working out great for me. A little lighter than the v14 I think, and supposedly a little less capable to pick up the pace. Plush and soft and comfy, perfect for recovery/easy runs.
It's easy to get carried away and to go overboard with different pairs of niche shoes for each specific type of run... But assuming you're no <1:15 HM runner, two pairs of versatile daily trainers should be more than enough for your training and race. One pair could be a bit lighter, more responsive (speed work), the other one could be a bit more focused on comfort and support. Either one could be used for race day, depending on your pace/preference/gait/cadence/etc. If you're running 6 days, 100K a week, preparing for a 3h-ish marathon....it can be useful to have 3 or even 4 different pairs. My approach: Carbon plated race day shoes (VF3), comfy max cushion recovery run shoes (1080v13), and two pairs of daily/super trainers (Mach 6 & Evo SL).
I'm rotating my Evo SL and SL2, the latter being more of the easy run pick. I'm actually liking my NB 1080v13 even more though, soft midsole, comfy plush upper,...excellent easy/long/recovery shoes. Not as versatile as the SL2, but for tempo runs I use the Evo SL anyway.
Love my 1080v13. 34 mm under heel, according to runrepeat. I guess the v14 should be fine too, they weigh a bit more, but they're supposedly a little more versatile. Mach 6 are great too, though I wouldn't call 'em "plushy", they're definitely not in same category as the 1080 or Brooks Glycerin or Saucony Triumph.
So a max cushion minimalst shoe? ;p That's kinda whay I like my Mach 6 so mach. Soft and plush for a shoe that light, and way better stability and ground feel than my Evo SL or NB 1080. Whenever I hit the trails and most of it is gravel, hard dirt, nothing technical or rocky/wet/muddy/slippery/steep...the Mach 6 are my weapens of choice.
So why not just the Evo SL or 1080? The former is lighweight and has plenty of cushioning for a 2h run, the latter should be super comfy and stable for longs. Just mpo, ymmv...but as a 2h half marathoner you shouldn't be overestimating the importance of a "rotation".
Both the M6 and Evo SL could make sense, to replace the Triumphs. They're very different, but both pretty versatile, lightweight, durable, not too pricey,... Both the Mach 6 and Evo SL can handle long runs too imo, as well as tempo/interval runs,... What paces or goal time are we talking here? For a 3:30 marathon I might go with the Evo SL on race day, for 3:00 it'd be the AP3. For a +4h maratho I'd go with the NB 1080, or a similar max cushion cruiser.
