SUPERBLAST 2
Marathon workhorse, but loud and clunky at slow paces.

Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
I have bought 2 pairs of those and I loved them, but I seem to make holes in the top part that touches the back of my ankle after not even 6 months of wear 🥲 I never experienced this with other running shoes
Based off what? You said heavy clunky stability shoes. The current Hurricane is just over 9 ounces for men's. The Altra Flow ST is under 9 ounces for men's sample size. Even the Kayano, which is what I'm sure you're thinking of, is 10.5 ounces, which is not bad at all. They've removed mid foot shanks and medial posting, and are using softer foams, so stability features now come more from geometry and platform shape. Stability shoes are much more democratic now than they used to be, and guess what? Runners *do* still like them. The Adrenaline is still a fine running shoe. The GT-2000 is still a fine running shoe. They have big audiences of people who like a shoe with a bit of guidance. I'm sure you're one of the people who thinks every person needs to be in an Evo SL or a Superblast 2, but the majority of runners just aren't looking for that type of ride.
No, I said 30 percent of shoes sold in running stores are stability shoes now. Your post said that he'll "probably" get put into a stability shoe. 30% isn't probably. That's quite a bit less than likely. I said the majority of runners aren't looking for the ride of an Evo SL, a Superblast or even a Boston. The majority of runners like the Ghost. They like the 880. They like the Adrenaline. This sub is a *very* small slice of the running community.
I had to make my peace with this as well, not just the having to spend $100+ on a good pair of sneakers to run and remain injury-free, but also replacing them periodically (like at least once a year). Unfortunately just a pretty important part of being a regular runner as I’ve become aware over the past few years. I use New Balance Fresh Foam X 880s and they work well for me!
I like New Balance...880x is my daily. Picked up a NB Super Comp2 Trainer (with the carbon fiber blade) of $99 on prime day. Fun to run in. NB has a wide ish fit and toe box so I like them. Most important bit - is actually using them versus getting "the best" . :)
Personally I like the New Balance fresh foam x880s for running. Walking I like ascics
New Balance fresh foam x880s! Only running shoes I will ever buy. I started training with Ascics and they gave me blisters
New Balance fresh foam 880s, but I’m getting ready to trade up to the 1080s
Yes, New Balance 880s or 860s are great shoes, and you can buy outgoing models on clearance from NB for way less ($70-$90). I’ve since moved on to Saucony Rides and they are great. I’ve been noticing a lot of Saucony in my studio lately.
