I got 400 miles in the Superblast 2. I thought they were okay. Kind of boring but fantastic grip. The issue is had is that they felt bulky and the forefoot was a little narrow. I am using the Mizuno Neo Zen and New Balance Balos for long runs. I personally like both of these shoes more. The Balos feels more nimble, softer, and bouncer and it only weighs 0.5 oz heavier. The Neo Zen is more lively than both the Superblast 2 and the Balos. I took it for an 18 miler out of the box with no issue.
Consensus is Superblast but I far prefer the novablasts. Had to sell the superblasts as they were so uncomfortable. Consider the new balance balos if you can get them on sale. Great long run shoe and it’s not normal fresh foam
Had arch pain that took 2 months to resolve after trying to give them a chance. Also just far too firm to be enjoyable for me. Novablast on the other hand was an absolute dream until it died off at about 350km. NB Bali’s have also been a delight for 230km so far. I’m also not enjoying the Megablast after a few runs (might start to just ignore shows that get hype), but at least they haven’t injured me yet
I am superstitious about long run shoes. I always have one pair of shoes that I use only for long runs. They are typically softer and more about comfort than anything. Right now my long runs are in the NB Balos. Historically, those have been Invincibles, Infinity React, Triumph, Vomero... I read an article about Jeannie Rice. She attributes some of her resiliency to a large shoe rotation. Good enough justification for me. Plus there are articles out there relating reduce injury rates with a shoe rotation. I have shoes that I wear on interval day and shoes that I wear on tempo/threshold day. To me it's more fun to run fast in a shoe that's designed for the pace. Streakfly, Hyperion Max, Noosa tri... Recovery runs are just in whatever I'm trying to wear out at the moment. I have a pair of Triumph 20's that are relegated to daily runs now. You can certainly get by in a single pair of shoes. I trained for and ran my first half in a pair of Nike Pegasus 32. In retrospect, not a great shoe, but it did the job. I find new shoes motivating for running. Some days I need some extra motivation and a new pair of shoes helps me get there.
230lbs. 6’6”. Have the 1080, the More, and the Balos. The more are too one-note for me, and the 1080 feels 90% as cushioned. The Balos are some of my favorite shoes but not worth the price over the 1080, IMO. 1080 is my vote here.
New Balance Balos are extremely comfortable and light but a bit pricey. You can’t go wrong with the New Balance 1080 v14, ASICS Gel Nimbus, and I also found the Adidas Supernova Prima to be quite comfortable on the feet as well.
For me, with similar paces as you, the Superblast is a bit slappy and kicks into gear for me when I’m moving a bit faster, like in a progressive run. For runs where I’ll be running 90 minutes or more, the I use the Nike Pegasus Premium, the RAD UFO, or the New Balance Balos. These shoes are all pure comfort and make me feel like I could add on a few more miles, even!
The 1080 doesn’t have any energy give back so it makes it feel them feel heavier on tired legs. I use the New Balance Balos, the ASICS Glideride Max 1/2, the Brooks Glycerin Max 1 for some of my recovery runs and I’m close to your size.
