More v3 and v4 has been my go-to easy-run shoe for the last few years. Have yet to try the v5 though.

More v3, 1080v12, 1080v13 and love them all. Just bought another 1080v13 for $69.99.

Yes I run in the SC trainer too. I suppose the V1 is still my favorite (1h 55m half marathon times in those) the V2 seemed to be faster on my feet and a bit firmer. The V3’s I feel like I’m working a bit harder than the V1’s but my legs are fine after a two hour run in them. No soreness at all. However I seem to be locked into a 5m 30s/6m 00s km pace in them. I think what I like is the fact NB realised that they are high and soft so by putting in the carbon plate it’s more about stability than speed and it works well (for me). The new sonicblast I find interesting because it’s a similar philosophy. No one seems to want them so may keep an eye out in the next lot of sales. lol. The biggest issue with New Balance is almost all their shoes are soft in the foam design. It does feel like you have work a little harder in them than other brands. Hoka may be the softest I’ve tried (I think), followed by NB, maybe then ASICS, Adidas are probably the least comfortable for me (the few I’ve tried, I know they vary, the prime x strung is quite soft). As for shoes not agreeing with me. Tried the Superblast V1 and I just couldn’t get on with them. Felt like bricks and my legs were beaten up after every run. The other surprise was the latest Novablast. I love them. Bouncy, light, great energy return, but I get toe joint pain in my right foot after every run in them. I was so upset. Could be that they are too tight in the toe box and I need to go a few sizes up but a real shame. I’m 5ft 7", 12st 10lbs.

Tried some New Balance More. The newest version. The amount is cushioning is almost scary. Might even be too much. Afraid to loose the feel of running with so much cushioning. Is that something that makes sense? I'll check out the Hola models!

I started with cheap shoes too and my feet hated me for it, so I get you 😅. For your budget, you can find some solid pairs that will last and save your knees. ASICS Gel series or New Balance Fresh Foam are great if you’ve got wide feet. Brooks Ghost is another comfy daily runner with decent ankle support. Try to test them in-store if you can, since fit makes a big difference. Honestly, it’s worth spending a little more if the shoes keep you injury-free.

lol I weigh in around 190 and think the Rebel 4 is an amazing shoe. I’ve worn them for every purpose. Great shoe. I’ll buy them again for this summer as a matter of fact. They have a fantastic blend of a firmer forefoot/toebox and softer heel. The parent comment may be about the Rebel 3 which is not the same and not as good as the 4 imo. I recommended them to two other guys that I train and they’ve given me glowing praise of them. They’re both 200 pound men. A woman in my running group took third in her age group in a major marathon in them. I have the NB Fresh Foam More and don’t like them to run in. They’re too soft and I feel like they actually hurt my feet.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksI am a tall, heavy noobie runner looking for his first pair of running shoes for a 10K. Help is appreciated!

I'm 6'5. Started running at 350lbs. My first pair of real running shoes was the brooks ghost. Then I tried the transcend, then the glycerin, then the auroras. I've had a few version of all of those shoes now. If you can afford it I would recommend the glycerins. Buy last years or the yr before model and save 70 or 80 bucks Their shoes are like camrys, they are reliable. They actually hold up but it's minimal changes every year. Another shoe I can recommend is the new balance fresh foam 1080. Or fresh foam more foam. If you don't care about colors you can snag good deals on amazon. Just bought last years version of more foams for 111$ better than 155$

New Balance. Fresh foam, to be specific. I've had mine for 4 years now and they're looking a little rough but I will wear them until its last shred. They are now my walking shoes and I feel like I'm walking on clouds and can walk all day in them vs other sneakers that I've gotten since (Vionics, which are okay imo and On Clouds, they suck). When my NBs no longer had the training mileage left, I ended running a marathon in Saucony Triumphs, which are just as comfortable. I've been keeping them away so that I don't ruin them outside of running but maybe it's time to take them out once and for all.

I have been running a lot lately and honestly the shoe makes a huge difference. For wide feet, New Balance and ASICS usually do a great job since they have wide-fit options. Breathability is easier to check in person, just look for mesh uppers, they let your feet breathe better than thick material. I have tried Nike too, but they sometimes run narrow. If you want comfort + durability, I would say go with ASICS Gel series or NB Fresh Foam, both work well for long runs.

* Easy/Recovery: Hoka Skyflow (52 mi) - Honestly, not my favorite shoe, but I bought them so I'll keep using them. It's probably back to my trusty Rincons after these are done. * Speed: Hoka Mach X (224 mi) - Still one of my favorites, especially for tempo runs. * Speed: Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 (225 mi) - The original speed was one of the first shoes I fell in love with, and this shoe has different mechanics from the Mach X. * Long/Race: New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v4 (190 mi/19mi) - I have two pairs. One that I've done all of my long marathon training runs in, and the new pair that I'm using for Philly this weekend and then Love Run in March. I wanted something wider and cushioned enough for longer runs, and while these aren't the fastest supershoes I've ever used, they're certainly reliable enough for 26.2. Ideally I'll replace them with the Cielo X1 3 when they're released. * Race: Hoka Rocket X 2 (146 mi) - I think these have one more race in them and then they'll be relegated to training. I adore this shoe and have to decide if I grab another pair or go with the 3 when I replace them. Also in my closet but not currently in use: * Brooks Ghost 15 (136 mi) - These feel like having a 2x4 strapped to your foot. They really ruined the shoe with this model and it's made me hesitant to try Brooks again. * Hoka Clifton 9 (153 mi) - I like the Clifton, they're just not ones I reach for on a regular basis. * Hoka Mach 5 (153 mi) - I bought these because of the hype around them, which I ended up not agreeing with. They're "fine" enough. * Hoka Skyward X (113 mi) - I've tried on and off to use these, but they make my peroneal tendonitis flare up. * New Balance More v4 (155 mi) - Another shoe that was overhyped for me. They never felt as "plush" as others talked about. * Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 (65 mi) - I bought these to use for my half marathon last year because of how much I loved the previous version. I strongly dislike this as a half/full marathon shoe because of the firmness, and it's not comfortable over 9 miles, to the point where I ended up using my almost-dead 3s for the race. They don't have a place in my rotation because the Rocket is a more aggressive shoe over the 5K/10K distance. I may end up using them for speed work when my current speed shoes are done.
