Love the rV5’s, just did 8.5 miles in them this morning. Going strong after about 200 miles. This was my do-it-all shoe before adding a full rotation.
Because they suck. The liveliness is out of those shoes so fast. They are dead as a brick almost instantly and I have no idea why anyone likes them. I send them back within a week.
I just bought the rebel v5. Its going to arive friday. Also kind of a Yeti. Do you want some feedback?
I love them! But I am a forefoot striker. Also I only ran 2 km in them in case I wanted to return them. Pace about 4:30-5:00mins per km.
I'm surprised with the negative feedback these have gotten here. It's only my third pair of road shoes but aftter two weeks and 80 kms (including a 20km long run) in them I love them. They feel light, responsive and cushioned in all the right spots for me. I think they're marketed wrong, they're not this fast interval shoe but more like a light daily trainer.
Sounds like you might just need a bigger shoe size tbh. The Evo SL is actually pretty good in the toe box for me, and I have wider, flat feet. Asics tend to be a little more narrow in the toe box so maybe no asics for you. New Balance tends to be very roomie. I would try the Rebel V4 or V5 for training, though I found the v4 to be slightly unstable, though not as bad as the Evo SL. I use the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 as a race day shoe and have no issues with them. It’s very stable for a race shoe and comfortable in the toe box. Just have to try a bunch of different pairs on to find the right fit.
My experience with carbon plated shoes has been they make multiple paces feel easier than non plated shoes. My race day shoe is the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4. I find that a 9 minute pace feels easier in them than my Asics Cumulus or my New Balance Rebel. They also make a 6:30 pace feel easier. I can’t quantify the benefit, but I can feel the plate working as I hit the ground and toe off. And that doesn’t change if I increase or decrease the pace. Everyone is different, of course and whether or not YOU find them worth it will ultimately come down to how you feel in them. But at the end of the day they’re just shoes. They aren’t some magical thing to be placed on a pedestal. They are just a tool.
Have these and have put 35km on it, i am 70kg and i feel like every time i use it it looses its bounce too quickly. Also hurts my calf when doing uphill jogs and i haven't encounter that issue with ultraboost.
Got these a few weeks ago and I feel like they’ve contributed to me being on the verge of getting shin splints. Wanted to run my first half in them but I think I will stick with my brooks ghost max 2 which have been great for me personally- though I see mixed reviews on those as well
I would go revel v5 or novablast. The others are good as a tempo interval shoes. But rebel and novablast are more versatile.
What is your run pace? If you average slower than a 6:30 mile then you don’t need these shoes, or metaspeeds. The carbon plate is not for novice runners. It can quickly lead to injuries if you just yeet them into a half marathon. Also, these race day shoes are meant to be as light as possible. They cut weight by removing any kind of stability, and there will be no grip at all in the heel as you’re supposed to be running fast enough that you’re forefoot striking on every stride. If you run a slow pace the heel will be torn to shreds before you even finish the race. Get the most comfortable shoes possible instead. Try them on first, don’t just order online. Or if you must order online, order several pairs and return all but the one that feels the most comfortable. Good examples are any of the Nike Vomero line, any of the ASIC blast (mega/nova/super), Brooks Glycerin or Adrenaline, and New Balance Revel V5.
Yeah I’m not the biggest fan either. And I spent like an entire week reading and watching reviews on them. Of course all the content creators said these were remarkable and 5 out of 5 (similar to the adidas Boston which turned out to be trash). I would exchange these for a new set of rebel v3’s in a heartbeat. The v3 felt so nimble and gave the feeling of being able to go fast and slow depending on how you’re feeling. These v5’s just feel slow and the cushion doesn’t give enough spring back. But the biggest gripe I have with the v5 is that the base is so wide compared to the v3. I hate how it feels like I’m running on cushioned plates while the v3 felt tailor made to my feet.
