I have a pair and they are a pretty good all rounder option. I got some Adidas Evo SL about 3 months ago which were cheaper and are a much nicer shoe to run in for the workouts you mentioned tho
Yeah it's boring. They're my first pair of running shoes. I'm glad I got it on sale for only 60 usd lol
I am with you. I have always found nike the most comfortable brand. I trained in Nike Pegasus' when I was running in high school, now running on my own I train with Nike Structure's, but looking at trying on some pegasus 41s to see how they feel.

Currently have the NB5, owned two pairs of pegs 41. I prefer the peg as a single shoe workhorse. It got me to my first HM. When you have a rotation the NB5s take over for the easy and long runs. But if I only had one shoe I’d take the 41s personally. Disclaimer I’m admittedly a bit of a Nike fan, grew up with Jordan’s, flights, etc.
5’11 190. Vomeros and Novablasts each got like 400-500 miles, good for easy and recovery. Invincible 3s got 650 miles. I’m on the Zoomfly6 for tempo and the Deviate nitro elite3 for tempo and race day. I don’t expect many miles out of those two. Also just ordered a replacement easy shoe, the Pegasus Plus. I had two pairs of Pegs, the 41 and 38, and they were workhorses. Easily got 600 miles out of each pair.
I skew towards Nike (90s kid) and went from 250lb to 190lb with running, weight training, and diet modifications. Did the bulk of that with Pegasus 38 and Pegasus 41. Super cheap when you can find on sale, good for every kind of run until you start buying specialized shoes (tempo/pace, long run, race day, etc). Recently picked up a pair of ASICS Novablast 5 and am pretty happy, though you might try them to see if they feel squishy to you. I use them for med/long runs and easy pace, but I did do some sprints in them and they did reasonably well. If you have good health insurance it might be worthwhile to see a sports doctor. They can analyze your gait and tell you if you pronate/supinate, are a heel/mid/front foot striker, have flat feet, duck walk, etc. this information can quickly narrow down your selection and prevent injuries.
My first pair of dedicated running shoes were clearance Pegasus, think they were like $75? Thought I’d treat my self and bought some volmeros. Going back to Pegasus when the Vs have had their time.
For your first running shoe you don’t need to spend $200. Sounds like your goal isn’t to work from couch to full marathon in three weeks, which is great. You should be able to get to 10min/mile in about a month or two, then start adding miles slowly. For the first two months just focus on 10-15 miles a week spread out over 2-3 total hours. Break it up however you want but min two days. I started running with a pair of Nike Pegasus ?? That were on sale. Think they’re up to 42 now, so last years model should be on clearance. But the same methodology can be applied to any brand. You could really have some fun and buy two pairs of clearance shoes for the $200 to figure out what you want and don’t like. I’m assuming USD, but if you mean AUS then the sales right now on most running sites have a great selection. I differ from most who say go to a store- until you know what you’re looking for in a shoe, you’re at the mercy of the inventory and sales associate in the brick and mortar. Most of the times they will be out of your size, or the clerk will be biased for many reasons and you’ll get suboptimal results vs doing a bit of research and shopping online. Only major plus to a brick and mortar is you have a 50/50 chance of getting properly sized, again dependent on the clerks ability to do this correctly.
Ran with Brooks Ghost 14s for a few years but for some reason the 16s are just worse. Way tighter in front. So I just bought two more pairs of 14s from wherever I could find that had leftovers 😂 Nike Pegasus 41s are also great. Overall, both make me feel so much more in control, instead of running on mush. I did get Brooks Ghost Max 2 for longer (was preparing for a half-marathon) runs but a pair of Ghost 14 or Pegasus 41 would have also been fine. Am female, if that makes a difference.
I have about 200km on mine. It is not as fast or bouncy as other modern trainers. But it is comfortable enough to cover the easy runs.
I have a pair of Nike Pegasus 41s for my road runs and they're really comfortable. I use hoka challenger 8s for trails runs
Decent running shoes. I've got Nike Pegasus 41s for pavement and hoka challenger 8s for trails, makes a huge difference. A decent pair of gloves to keep your hands warm as that's the only bit of me that gets painfully cold on early morning winter runs.
You sir are a legend. Streak Lts and Nike frees for 5-7 miles is mad impressive. My calves could never. However in middle school I went from Nike frees to the vomeros of the time and immediately returned them for a pegasus because the weight was such a big jump. Then I ran in pegs all through high school and still in college. Right now I own both the peg 41 and the peg plus, if you're looking for something more similar to Nike free definitely go with the pegasus. It has the hard ground contact feel and you feel more planted on your feet. The peg plus is lighter weight but it is pretty disconnected, you can't feel the ground and the outsole grip is not great. If you're looking for something to break into the 7-10 mile range though they are more forgiving on the legs. Vomero 18s are heavier than both and a big jump from Nike free and streak LT in terms of feel but they are by far the most comfortable and suited for tons of miles. For reference I run about 60-75 miles a week at around 6-7min mile pace and my vomero 18s are usable and preferred for pretty much any duration I do.
100000% the pegasus 41s. That is my everyday trainer and I have also raced in them and they were fantastic. I have also coached 12+ people through HYROX prep and races and most of them have purchased the 41s, trained in them and also raced in them and they loved them. Now they will take a beating for the next 4 months if you plan on racing in them. So I would only use them the days you are running and doing HYROX specific workouts. Don’t just wear them throughout your day, to work, to the grocery store or for regular strength workouts. Just swap into other shoes for that. Keep these just for running and HYROX. Since it’s 4 months of beating down on them you want to keep that foam as fresh as possible for race day. And if you are between sizes like 10.5-11 I would go on the upper side.
Personally I don’t like to train in plated shoes, they make my calves sore day after a run and I already have persistent calf soreness that I’m working on with a PT. My easy run/long run shoes are Vomero Plus (highly recommend) and tempo/intervals I run in Pegasus 41. I save the Alphafly 3’s for race day.
