SUPERBLAST 2
Marathon workhorse, but loud and clunky at slow paces.

Nike! Vomero Plus and Vomero 18 for easy runs. Pegasus Plus for speed.
5’11 190. Vomeros and Novablasts each got like 400-500 miles, good for easy and recovery. Invincible 3s got 650 miles. I’m on the Zoomfly6 for tempo and the Deviate nitro elite3 for tempo and race day. I don’t expect many miles out of those two. Also just ordered a replacement easy shoe, the Pegasus Plus. I had two pairs of Pegs, the 41 and 38, and they were workhorses. Easily got 600 miles out of each pair.
For your first running shoe you don’t need to spend $200. Sounds like your goal isn’t to work from couch to full marathon in three weeks, which is great. You should be able to get to 10min/mile in about a month or two, then start adding miles slowly. For the first two months just focus on 10-15 miles a week spread out over 2-3 total hours. Break it up however you want but min two days. I started running with a pair of Nike Pegasus ?? That were on sale. Think they’re up to 42 now, so last years model should be on clearance. But the same methodology can be applied to any brand. You could really have some fun and buy two pairs of clearance shoes for the $200 to figure out what you want and don’t like. I’m assuming USD, but if you mean AUS then the sales right now on most running sites have a great selection. I differ from most who say go to a store- until you know what you’re looking for in a shoe, you’re at the mercy of the inventory and sales associate in the brick and mortar. Most of the times they will be out of your size, or the clerk will be biased for many reasons and you’ll get suboptimal results vs doing a bit of research and shopping online. Only major plus to a brick and mortar is you have a 50/50 chance of getting properly sized, again dependent on the clerks ability to do this correctly.
Running Shoes... I'm actually wearing my Pegasus Plus right now. It's great for walking around all day. I keep my Alphafly, VaporFly, Streakfly and Zoomfly for training and racing.
I agree 💯! The Plus just felt so much better at my faster pace today! 6:20/km. For my normal easier long runs will be in the Vomero 18. I like the Vomero Plus so much, that I can phase out my Pegasus 41, and possibly Pegasus Plus as well!
The puma velocity nitro 4 is probably the best daily trainer out there right now. It's essentially an elevated pegasus that is lighter, softer and more responsive for running. If you want to stick with Nike the pegasus plus is also a cool shoe that is more performance orientated compared to the pegasus 41 The standard pegasus is a fine shoe but it's shock absorption, weight and responsiveness lag behind a lot of the competition.
The velocity is just as good as the pegasus in other areas afaik. Durability is very good and pumagrip rubber is considered one of the grippiest, most durable compounds. It's also far lighter and probably more comfortable as a walking shoe. Very similar RRP to the pegasus but if you prefer the looks of the pegasus I'd understand Also consider the pegasus plus because it's on sale a lot at the moment and it's pretty much just an all round improved pegasus.
You sir are a legend. Streak Lts and Nike frees for 5-7 miles is mad impressive. My calves could never. However in middle school I went from Nike frees to the vomeros of the time and immediately returned them for a pegasus because the weight was such a big jump. Then I ran in pegs all through high school and still in college. Right now I own both the peg 41 and the peg plus, if you're looking for something more similar to Nike free definitely go with the pegasus. It has the hard ground contact feel and you feel more planted on your feet. The peg plus is lighter weight but it is pretty disconnected, you can't feel the ground and the outsole grip is not great. If you're looking for something to break into the 7-10 mile range though they are more forgiving on the legs. Vomero 18s are heavier than both and a big jump from Nike free and streak LT in terms of feel but they are by far the most comfortable and suited for tons of miles. For reference I run about 60-75 miles a week at around 6-7min mile pace and my vomero 18s are usable and preferred for pretty much any duration I do.
