I’d pick Vaporfly 4 unless you’re a strong front foot striker with narrow feet — I also recommend Hoka Rocket X3 or Brooks Hyperion Elite 5
Love my Vaporfly 4 for 1 mile to 10k races
Great question. Road Running Adidas Evo Sl - White (344mi) Black (202mi) - fanstastic daily shoe that totally match the hype, bouncy without feeling squishy. Having two on rotation lets the foam recover. Best travel shoe to handle any type of run. Smitten. I ran over 500 miles last year in the Puma Mag Max, the SL is like that level of comfort without the weight. Nike Vaporfly 4- Blue (16mi) newest shoe for fast days. Feel great, so light and nimble. I replace my Puma Nitro 3 (322 mi) with these. Really like the lacing and upper. So excited to see what I can do in these. Trail Rotation Nike Ultrafly (85mile). These shoes don’t get much talk. But I love the plated trail shoe, these 85 miles have been hard miles. We have lots of rocks in Colorado and these glide over them and don’t squish. Only down side is they get and stay very dirty. I’ve ran everything from Moab to Jungle with these. Lots of summer hiking in them too. Bonus points is these are the best mountain bike shoes I have ever owned. Nike Pegasus Gore Tex - (250mi). My winter snow workhorses. Not to sweaty, durable as hell. Excellent grip. We are lucky to have such great shoes available.
I just got some vaporfly 4s and after I finish NYC marathon I'm going to try and lower my 5k and 10k times. I will use the VF4 when i time trial or race. To (after one workout in them) they feel like a more comfortable VF2 with a little more ground feel given the lower stack. They want to go faster than the VF3, but the fit is not quite as comfortable (nor the outsole feel quite as soft-not that that is bad per se). They feel incredibly light in comparison to the 3 as well. Not much experience with the Takumi other than feeling like they were way too tight for me when I tried them on so couldn't get past that. VF4 fits the best of any vaporfly to me and feels a lot more distinguished from the alpha than the VF3 - which I would prob take up to a full if I had to, and would have no problem doing a half+ in. The VF4 feels like mile to 10K is ideal range.
Lots of opinions here. I say get what you like, but if you want to go vapor, you might enjoy the feel of the VF3 (and have more color options at that price or better) than the VF4 (which to me is definitely more of an aggressive feel). I'm sure others will disagree, but I think between the outsole and generally more comfortable fit and stability of the 3 over the 4 (which is much closer to the VF2 for me), you'll get more value and enjoyment out of them. But yeah, like others have said, the vomero plus is going to give you a lot of zoomX fun, way more comfort and way more versatility for all your day to day runs. I just took them out on the trail for an 8ish minute pace tempo and they did fine. Did not feel held back at all at that pace.

I have those (on my second pair actually) and Vaporfly 4, honestly I think I slightly prefer the kd900x.2, I use them for tempos/intervals and some long runs, would race just fine with them. I just use the vaporfly for races because they were pricier.
Coming from the Vaporfly Next 2's (which I loved), I tried the Vaporfly 4's, the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3's and the Fast R3's. I also look at the Metaspeed Paris range but it seemed that these other three would be better for me (and the Tokyo's weren't out yet). Conclusion for me: Puma Fast R3. The Vaporfly 4's were lacking underfoot cushioning/protection it felt like, and felt slower than the Fast R 3's anyway. The Nitro Elite 3's felt great, but I wanted the fastest and lightest and the Fast R 3's were that. I bought them and have done one 5km solo time trial in them and went 18:45 on a slow course. They felt great. But - as a slight pronator who gets more towards heel strike as I tire, I would have doubts about taking these past a half marathon. For me, at 77kg, I would definitely make these my 5km and 10km shoes, half marathon it would be between the Vaporfly 2's or the Fast R3's (probably would try the latter at least once). Marathon I'd look at something else (Alphafly or Asics Tokyo) or use the Vaporfly 2's that still have some life in them.
Either will work. I ran a marathon in brooks and vapofly. Have you ran long miles in both?
Vaporfly 4 is great, and can be found at nike on sale for $180, and with a bit of hunting can be found below 150 elsewhere.
Love quantifiable info! Thank you. Was going to say a lot of super shoes do well at both while having phenomenal foam for comfort and the light upper for weight. I will say VF4 are almost too light and not cushioned enough for 26.2 IMO of course. I like the AP4 or metaspeeds that seem to excel at both. Though no super shoe will be as stable as a more daily.
You don't want stiff and bulky, but shortlisted the Sonicblast? Rebel has shifted into a much softer, more bouncy daily shoe than a speed one. Boston and DN3 are probably closest to your brief out of those, but I'd vouch for the Vaporfly 4 as an alternative - technically a "full carbon racer", but amongst the lightest shoes you can buy, very comfortable and huge energy return... Knocked a full minute off my 5k PB first time I ran in them and only shoe I've worn where going under 4min/km didn't feel like hell.
