I have the basic version and love it. It’s my go to for basically every run and I’ll definitely get the Plus when it’s on sale. Love the color btw.
Personal experience: I have hoka speedgoat for winter and on cloud monster for summer. These are my preferred shoes. Before on it was Nike voromo for summer and Nike trail but I like these better. New Balance road runner gives blisters on arch of foot where sole is tethered on inner sole and New Balance fuel cells bottoms wear off too quickly from abrasion from road/ track.
Highly recommend a high cushion. I started with Nike vomero but price jumped up so last 2 years cloudmonster from on is more affordable. I was 50 lbs more when I first started running 15 years ago and I had arthritis in knees
I moved on to the Superblast 2 and the Nike Vomero. I'll wait for the next model.
Any road shoe is probably fine. I wore adidas evo sl at my last flat 100. I plan on wearing the Nike Vomero with a little more aggressive sole, but they are a good road to gravel shoe. I will be running mostly on dirt roads for that race (50 mile).
Puma Velocity Nitro 4 or if you want max cushion or more protection ASICS Gel Nimbus or Nike Vomero although they’ll be a bit heavier.
What is your run pace? If you average slower than a 6:30 mile then you don’t need these shoes, or metaspeeds. The carbon plate is not for novice runners. It can quickly lead to injuries if you just yeet them into a half marathon. Also, these race day shoes are meant to be as light as possible. They cut weight by removing any kind of stability, and there will be no grip at all in the heel as you’re supposed to be running fast enough that you’re forefoot striking on every stride. If you run a slow pace the heel will be torn to shreds before you even finish the race. Get the most comfortable shoes possible instead. Try them on first, don’t just order online. Or if you must order online, order several pairs and return all but the one that feels the most comfortable. Good examples are any of the Nike Vomero line, any of the ASIC blast (mega/nova/super), Brooks Glycerin or Adrenaline, and New Balance Revel V5.
For some reason, it seems fashionable to wear anything *except* Nike and to turn one’s nose up at it in the tri community, but I swear by my Nike Pegasus and Nike Vomeros. I wear the Pegs for runs under an hour and my Vomeros for those longer than an hour. I’ve tried numerous New Balance, Adidas, Under Armor, and Puma models, and I keep coming back to Nike.
Agree that Vomeros aren’t awesome for speed; there’s just too much cushion in them for that. For 5K races and sprint tris I wear Nike Rival Fly. But I s’pose this just further illustrates that I’m all in on Nike shoes
I really grew to love mine. Going from the Novablast 5, a really cushy and light shoe, to the Vomeros was jarring at first. But now I’m thinking about getting a second pair. Amazing running shoes
I’ve been a big fan of Nike Vomero for years. The Vomero 18 are great and the Vomero Plus are even better.
I think you picked the 4 shoes I would highly not recommend. So many awesome choices out there. Novablast 5, Gel Nimbus 27/28, any of the Vomeros, Magmax and so many others.
