Dont worry about those time claims. If they feel great for you, buy them. I have several pairs and use the from everything from 5k races to half marathon long runs. my marathon time is currently estimated above 4 hours with a 2 hour half marathon record. The only shoes I will choose over the AP4 are the Pro Ovo 1 and 2 which are supposed to be for even faster runners. For me, I want the most premium foam I can buy if I am going to be running 2 to 4 hours. I started buying adidas shoes with the Takumi Sen 10 (supposedly for 5k) and Adios Pro 3. I was unstable on the Takumi Sen 10 at about 210lb mass but the AP3 was great and I used them for everything from 1 mile jogs to 5k runs. I have dialed back my carbon plate adoption by picking up some Evo SL and Nike Vomero premium pairs for training, but I will still run 5Ks on my AP4

I wear the Vomero 18 (not Plus) for everyday running. I’m just tried the Vomero Premium at the Nike store and to me, it seems a lot more “spongy” but not to the point of being slow. I’m slow anyway and I’m looking for a shoe to extend my long runs without hip/leg pain. I’m 64 and right now, 7-8 miles is pretty much when the right hip joint starts to get a bit sore. Do you think the Premium would significantly enable longer runs?

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksIs the Evo SL the hottest “average” running shoe - and right for me?

Even though it’s very popular, it’s ideally not a beginner shoe or a slow runner shoe. It’s designed for speed and tempo workouts. Many have used them for long runs, but it’s not exactly what they’re designed for. I think theyre too unstable for slow runs. My opinion, it’s a great shoe for me but I only use it for tempo. You also stated you like minimalist shoes. The EVO SL is the exact opposite of that. Many of the popular slow runs shoes today have a lot of foam, super soft and decent energy return. My two favorite slow/long run shoes right now are ASICS Megablast and my brand new Nike Vomero Premium. The Premium is the softest shoe I’ve ever tried (and I’ve owned the softest Brooks, Hokas, and New Balance). Many have said those are like running on clouds, but they have nothing on the Vomero Premium for a running on clouds feel. I can’t honestly give you a good recommendation for a low stack firm long run shoe, that’s not my jazz. Maybe the Nike Structure 26?

Vomero plus or Vomero premium if you can get your hands on a pair. Or the most popular shoe of 2025, EVO SL. If you want to still consider plated shoes, Adios Pro 4 are very soft, Alphafly 3 is also an option.

The Vomeros and vomero plus are easy to find and go on sale often. The Vomero premium has only been out for about a month and is pretty hard to find. The two drops on the Nike app sold out in under 5 seconds. The plus is a good middle ground, but if you’re really worried about knee pain you won’t have to with the premium. At a steady pace, running in them kinda almost feels like being on an elliptical. A lot of professional runners are using the premium for their recovery runs, claiming it lets them put more mileage in with less wear and tear. It could be argued you could do better in Vomero premiums than a race shoe over marathon distances with the lack of stress on joints.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksWhat color should I get for my race shoes for my running debut half marathon?

What is your run pace? If you average slower than a 6:30 mile then you don’t need these shoes, or metaspeeds. The carbon plate is not for novice runners. It can quickly lead to injuries if you just yeet them into a half marathon. Also, these race day shoes are meant to be as light as possible. They cut weight by removing any kind of stability, and there will be no grip at all in the heel as you’re supposed to be running fast enough that you’re forefoot striking on every stride. If you run a slow pace the heel will be torn to shreds before you even finish the race. Get the most comfortable shoes possible instead. Try them on first, don’t just order online. Or if you must order online, order several pairs and return all but the one that feels the most comfortable. Good examples are any of the Nike Vomero line, any of the ASIC blast (mega/nova/super), Brooks Glycerin or Adrenaline, and New Balance Revel V5.

Nike. Because I'd wanna race in the AlphaFlys and VaporFlys, and for training, the Vomero Premium is the most incredible shoe I've ever tried. For trail I'd gamble on the ACG Ultrafly being more than decent.

100% Vomero Premium, logged in over 100km on mine. Legs get super pampered. Did a easy 10km, Legs felt fresh afterwards. I'm 6'1" 190lbs.

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksBest shoe for impact absorption/injury?

I have the Bondi 9s and while not very fun, they tick the shock absorption criteria very well. As do the puma magmax and brooks glycerin max. These 3 make your classic stable recovery max stack trio. Then there’s the Nike vomero plus and premium. Other shoes like the Mizuno Neo Zen and Wave Rebellion Pro 3 mentioned lack the stability I’m guessing you need.

They have 3 levels Vomero 18 is the daily  Plus is the all purpose shoe that excels in long runs (equivalent of superblast 2) Premium is great for recovery runs, although some people do long runs in them

Vomero premium is quite gimmicky for a running shoe, it’s basically just a recovery shoe at best (though it does have its fans).

r/AskRunningShoeGeeksNike Pegasus 41 really as meh as they say?

Yeah they’re super basic by design and that’s a good thing, they’re a tool in the arsenal. I have the Peg 41 alongside the Vomero Plus (long runs), Vomero Premium (Recovery) and Zoomfly 6 (speed and races), and the Pegs serve their purpose. I use them once a week on days when I want to go out and do all the work myself and get a natural bit of ground feel, it’s good for the legs and building strength and maintaining good form. I wouldn’t use them as your only daily trainer but they’re great to use in a rotation.

No need to splurge on the premium, these are great on the treadmill. You’ll not be missing out on anything not getting the more expensive version, except for weight maybe.
