getting some right ankle pain with the prime x3. sb2 is clunky at slower runs. mizuno feels the best for long runs. just got the cb max which is the heaviest but will need to try them in longer runs and see if it is good enough for a sub5 marathon. ap4 and zoomfly 6 are just too much for my ankle even at faster paces which are not shown in this video. and as you can see the cloudboom strike seems like the most stable for me but i probably need to replace the laces and improve the lockdown.
No, I do not have one pair of shoes. I swap shoes to avoid getting blisters. My current rotation during this training block: * 361 Flame 4 * Adidas EVO SL (I have two pairs that I'm cycling through; one is black with white stripes and another that is jade mint colorway) * Adidas Adios Pro 4 (2025 Race Shoe) * Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 (2025 Race Shoe) * On Cloudmonster Hyper (I phased this out of my rotation during this training block) * Puma MagMax Nitro (I phased this out of my rotation during this training block) * New Balance FuelCell Rebel V4 (will probably be retired soon; has a lot of mileage and the foam isn't responding how I think it should) * Brooks Glycerin Max Right now, I'm trying to figure out if I am going to run my upcoming race with the 361 Flame 4 or the Adidas Adios Pro 4. Or sleeper choice that I'm still waiting to arrive from China which is the Li-Ning Feidian 6 ELITE. EDIT: I forgot to add that the On Cloudboom Max which I used for a 2025 5K but did not like as a race shoe got turned into a recovery shoe.
first: stop using the word "slow" to describe your marathon pace. You are a marathoner, that itself is insane. Even someone chasing cutoffs in a marathon is still incredible. Miles don't care. second: Also a 5 hour marathoner here, currently pacing around 4:30 though for my next full, and I just did an HM-distance training run in the On Cloudboom Max. I was really impressed. I've kinda been out on On for a while now because of their foams and durability, but wanted to try the new cloudboom max because it was designed for the non-elites. I also recently got the asics sonicblasts and I'm insanely impressed by those, and will be racing an HM next weekend in them. I'm gonna wear one of the two for my december marathon, leaning toward sonicblast.
Run in each of them for 20kms and go with the comfiest one. Performance and stability mean nothing when you're out there that long, comfort is key. Take it from me, I learned that the hard way.
Have you tried any Altras or Topos? I’ve been buying the same Altra Torin 5s in leather for 4 years now because I can’t find a decent pair of shoes. My knees hurt, my back hurts, I’m getting blisters under my big toe. I had an experience recently trying on a pair of Cloudboom Max that actually made my toes start going numb within a minute of wearing them. Love the cushioning and firmness of the plate though. It’s a shame they’re so damn tight. I was considering trying the Mount to Coast R1 because everyone claims it’s wide, but we’ll see. My feet are rectangles that are 4” across. I will try to find a running store with the Endorphin and Glycerin Max. I tried the non-GTS (I hate GTS models, the guiderails hurt) version of the Glycerin 22 and like the upper, albeit they run super small. I had to size up to a women’s 9.5 when I’m an 8 usually.
I have some Adizero Evo Sl Shoes which are quality. Best ones I've had Before that I had some on running cloud ones but I think I will stick with Adidas from now on
I’ve been running for the past 3 years, without any real goal or structure. Last year I got more serious about it and was recommended two pairs of running shoes. One of them was Cloud, which I used for a half marathon, and my right ankle was completely wrecked after the race. I also had a pair of Hyperion Max 3 from Brooks that I bought at the same time, but I used those for higher‑pace sessions. In December I got runner’s knee, and I’ve trained my way back to being able to run for 1 hour on a treadmill, but using some Asics shoes (Gel Phoenix) that don’t have as much drop as the Brooks shoes. Today I went for a run and only noticed towards the end that these Brooks shoes are extremely unstable for me. I’m also on the heavier side at 90 kg, so that might play a role in the assessment. Either way, I’m looking for a stable shoe. As you can see from the clip, I overpronate, and the instability goes first to the ankle, then up to the knee, and then to the hip. I need recommendations for other shoes I can use without injuring myself. Ideally i want to run a halvmarathon in september. Goal is 1:40. Last year i did 1:45. Thanks in advance.
Mine never got better , they were so uncomfortable , I had to switch to on cloud and much better fit for me !
