I retire mine at 300 miles, but based on wear pattern and feel, I could take them closer to 400. I'm just ready for a new shoe by 300 miles so I retire everything there except race shoes. I'm on my third pair of Hypers currently.
On is outclassed by every other brand across the board. I only have the cloudmonster hyper because of a deep discount. It is definitely not worth Msrp
No, I do not have one pair of shoes. I swap shoes to avoid getting blisters. My current rotation during this training block: * 361 Flame 4 * Adidas EVO SL (I have two pairs that I'm cycling through; one is black with white stripes and another that is jade mint colorway) * Adidas Adios Pro 4 (2025 Race Shoe) * Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 (2025 Race Shoe) * On Cloudmonster Hyper (I phased this out of my rotation during this training block) * Puma MagMax Nitro (I phased this out of my rotation during this training block) * New Balance FuelCell Rebel V4 (will probably be retired soon; has a lot of mileage and the foam isn't responding how I think it should) * Brooks Glycerin Max Right now, I'm trying to figure out if I am going to run my upcoming race with the 361 Flame 4 or the Adidas Adios Pro 4. Or sleeper choice that I'm still waiting to arrive from China which is the Li-Ning Feidian 6 ELITE. EDIT: I forgot to add that the On Cloudboom Max which I used for a 2025 5K but did not like as a race shoe got turned into a recovery shoe.
As others have said: go to a running store if you can. BUT BE VERY AWARE THAT THEY TRY TO PUSH STABILITY SHOES ON EVERYONE. You might actually need them, but you might not. Just remember above all else, listen to your feet whilst testing them. And wear the socks that you would wear when running. Running socks are worth it, but that is another topic. As a fellow wide foot runner (2E), I have had luck with glycerin 21 2E, novablast 4 2E, novablast 5 I was actually good just going up an extra 0.5 size in D, and Adidas Adios Pro 3. If you have the money and like how it feels, the On Cloudmonster Hyper is probably the widest D shoe I have ever worn. New balance I only had luck with the width on the rebel V4 2E, but I also have an issue with how new balance incorporates their logo on the side; it always seems to dig into my foot. Also runrepeat.com is a fantastic resource. They have articles for suggestions on different kinds of shoes, but you can also go into the articles for each one and see the breakdown of everything about the shoes.
I hate my v4s. Switched to oncloud Cloudmonster hyper
1. Endorphin Elite 2 (best racer i have ever tried and it isnt even close) 2. Metaspeed Sky Paris (so light and responsive but too firm for marathon) 3. Cloudmonster Hyper (comfy, speedy when needed, lasted 700 miles) 4. Nimbus 27 (new daily, so good for easy pace) 5. Nimbus 26 (comfy but slightly firmer) 6. Evo SL (not lived up to the hype but can do most things pretty well) 7. 1080 v14 (comfy but dull) 8. Superblast 2 (not as good as the hype for me) 9. Cloudflow 5 (got it for free and 230 miles later they still feel like running on bricks)
1) while aesthetically pleasing, tapered toe boxes suck. 2) the cloud monster hyper is actually an incredible shoe and absolutely worth getting if you can find it in the $125-150 range. 3) vibram outsoles aren't the peak of traction anymore
How have you found the longevity of the CloudMonster Hyper? Really enjoyed my first pair but started getting pains after 400km, thought this seemed a bit premature from a "super trainer" that isn't particularly cheap. Considered replacing with a new pair but this has put me off.
First of all congratulations, what you have accomplished is nothing short of amazing, you have great times and with some new race shoes I'm sure you can achieve the full marathon in less than 4 hours. Just because it's something I have tested the Asics are great for fast paces and speed workouts, they will be a great addition to your rotation. For slower runs, I try to have something well cushioned and the GT 2000 are not that, I would suggest maybe something with more bounce, if price is an issue go with the GT 2000 if you have some extra money, go for (and this is controversial for some) with theOn Cloudmonster hyper, these are the ones I use for recovery and easy long runs, they have amazing cushion and bounce, they are on sale for like $150 in On's page on the Last Season section
Controversial option, but love my Cloudmonster hyper, best easy / recovery shoe I have used, love them
If you like the On's, definitely check out the Cloudmonster Hyper.
