I found a nice deal on the MS5 on The Loop and I was wondering if I could make it work as a daily. I know it's plated, but the plate seems to be a lot shorter and flatter than a race shoe, something like the ESL's shank. I've heard some reviews of it being potentially usable for some recovery/base work. For a little reference of my preference: * My favorite shoe I've ever worn is the On Cloudsurfer 7. I love it's minimalist structure, rocker, durability, and plush feel. It's something I've done everything from recovery to tempo reps in them, but I'm looking for something that's capable of going up to vo2/lactic reps while maintaining that easy mile versatility. * My current shoe is the Adidas ESL. It's been great and I love that it can be soft while also retaining some snap and speed for faster work. My two problems I've had with it are 1. the upper is cramped and uncomfortable, and 2. I'm getting tired of just how tall it is, and desperately need a lower, more minimal shoe. * For biometrics and performance reference: I'm 5'6" + 120-25 lbs, 175 bpm cadence if it matters, 17:3x 5k xc, 4:5x 1600, and primarily plan to train to shave down both times quite a bit. Thoughts?
Wow guess I got lucky then because mine lasted pretty long. But I definitely get what you are saying because the cloud surfer model I had started sagging after a while
Thank you also I should have clarified I run now and then throughout the week, but I like wearing the shoes out and about instead of having separate pairs. So I was hoping the shoe would be durable enough to handle walking out and about after my runs. But after I did more research, you are correct because many have said the foam used for the bottom half isn’t very durable. So it’s definitely a take off when not running, type of shoe
I got the On Cloudsurfer for the very same use case, have been very satisfied. I like the style, very comfortable for walking and wearing, and for running they are quite multi-purpose. The downside is the price point but can be motivated by the fact that this is the running shoe I put most hours in (not actual running hours though).
I’ve been in SB2s pretty exclusively this year - previously was alternating Hoka Mach 6 and On Cloudsurfer. The Mach 6 is a great shoe and I highly recommend those - I’ve been sticking to a 9-10mm drop vs, Hoka at 5mm for leg reasons this year, so that’s why I’ve not been running in them as much - they don’t have a “snap” but maybe a “spring” and they can go HM and speed work for sure. I’m on my second pair, I really love that shoe. Another shoe I’m eyeing but don’t have is the Adizero EVO SL - it crossed my radar on r/runningshoegeeks so I’m thinking about those but haven’t tried personally. I am pretty good at comparing reviews to my own foot to buy without trying if I know the brand, so it’s definitely doable if you know your foot and what you like. The superblast 3 is actually supposed to be a bit springier vs the SB2 which to me is a little clunky/flat. I guess that will be out next spring? Megablast seemed like a lot of shoe/fuss to me for my pace which is 9min mile on average, but the door isn’t closed to those, I just don’t identify as a super competitive runner so I thought it may be too much shoe for me.
The Cloudsurfer is actually one of their longer lasting models - it says but because the holes are smaller, it maintains shock absorbption/integrity The asics foams aren’t the longest lasting because they’re quite lightweight, esp FF Blast Max into the Novablast 5. I think you’ll be fine though
I have some Adizero Evo Sl Shoes which are quality. Best ones I've had Before that I had some on running cloud ones but I think I will stick with Adidas from now on
I’ve been running for the past 3 years, without any real goal or structure. Last year I got more serious about it and was recommended two pairs of running shoes. One of them was Cloud, which I used for a half marathon, and my right ankle was completely wrecked after the race. I also had a pair of Hyperion Max 3 from Brooks that I bought at the same time, but I used those for higher‑pace sessions. In December I got runner’s knee, and I’ve trained my way back to being able to run for 1 hour on a treadmill, but using some Asics shoes (Gel Phoenix) that don’t have as much drop as the Brooks shoes. Today I went for a run and only noticed towards the end that these Brooks shoes are extremely unstable for me. I’m also on the heavier side at 90 kg, so that might play a role in the assessment. Either way, I’m looking for a stable shoe. As you can see from the clip, I overpronate, and the instability goes first to the ankle, then up to the knee, and then to the hip. I need recommendations for other shoes I can use without injuring myself. Ideally i want to run a halvmarathon in september. Goal is 1:40. Last year i did 1:45. Thanks in advance.
Mine never got better , they were so uncomfortable , I had to switch to on cloud and much better fit for me !
