Thanks for the detailed write up. I was a huge fan of the Deviate Nitro 1, ended up going through 4 pairs, but was not pleased with the Deviate 2. The 3 has been pretty good and the Elite 3 is absolutely top of the line, but I spend a lot more time in the trainer than the racer obviously. It seems like the Deviate 4 should work for me, but I worry about it being a "2" update: they added foam and took away the responsiveness of the 1 without really doing anything other than making it more bulky.
excellent. thanks for the "sneak peak". The Deviate Nitros have been a favorite since the first version. Wasn't that big a fan of v2, but v1 & v3 have done great for me. Will be curious to see what they change from the 3 to the 4.
Steady runs. I rotate them with one of my pairs of the Evo SL, Megablast, Superblast 3, speed 5 and Deviate nitro for these kind of runs.
It’s great but super narrow
Did boston hyrox with the deviate nitro 3 elite, amazing shoes never gave me a problem at any of the stations. I have all three of the hyrox version shoes. The regular deviate nitro is fine. All of them will get the job done. Amazing traction on all of pumas shoes
Get some Pumas then. Best road outsoles on the market. Velocity Nitro if you like a bit of ground feel or Deviate Nitro/MagMax if you like more foam underfoot.
I'd look at tempo trainers, they are definitely good enough now for marathons, but cost a lot less than top end race shoes. Something like Puma deviate nitro, Saucony endorphin speed, or Adidas Boston/Evo SL. I think that's probably the best category to look in for useful shoes. Great for speedwork, good for long runs. Try some on if you can and pick the most comfortable for your feet. They are all good shoes! I'd try all of the shoes you've got on longer runs, you'll be doing plenty of them! And genuinely, pick the most comfortable for race day. I didn't for my first marathon and my toes bled so much.
Puma, no question, go Puma! Happy to share my reviews and pictures!
I think I said that the nova blast was toast after that many miles, my puma deviate. I have 265 miles in.
Long runs are always Adidas Bostons. Speed and track are Puma Deviant...with track work with newer shoes, and off track speed work being my older pair. For easy days and non-specific running I wear Saucony Triumphs. I love the Bostons for distance - I haven't found anything that matches them for wearability over 30km (but open to suggestions). The Puma's feel so right at faster paces, but by 15km they're not the most comfortable. Saucony is just easy. I literally never think about them - slip on and go.
The Saucony Tempus 2 have been a blessing. After trying the Deviate Nitros, Saucony Speed and Endorphin Pro the Tempus gave me the stability and support I needed without sacrificing performance. They are super stable yet good for speed. I cannot recommend them enough to people who need that extra support.
I love my speeds in the dry weather but this time of year the deviate nitros come out to play, good deals on them right now as well.
