Thanks for the detailed write up. I was a huge fan of the Deviate Nitro 1, ended up going through 4 pairs, but was not pleased with the Deviate 2. The 3 has been pretty good and the Elite 3 is absolutely top of the line, but I spend a lot more time in the trainer than the racer obviously. It seems like the Deviate 4 should work for me, but I worry about it being a "2" update: they added foam and took away the responsiveness of the 1 without really doing anything other than making it more bulky.

excellent. thanks for the "sneak peak". The Deviate Nitros have been a favorite since the first version. Wasn't that big a fan of v2, but v1 & v3 have done great for me. Will be curious to see what they change from the 3 to the 4.

Did boston hyrox with the deviate nitro 3 elite, amazing shoes never gave me a problem at any of the stations. I have all three of the hyrox version shoes. The regular deviate nitro is fine. All of them will get the job done. Amazing traction on all of pumas shoes

20 min 5k at 190lbs is already plenty fast, don't let us lighter runners warp your view. Your cardio needs to be in far better shape than someone running the same time who is 40-50lbs lighter. That said, are you looking specifically for race shoes/speed shoes? Getting a super shoe just for long runs (unless it's the SC Elite v4) is kind of a waste, there's other shoes that don't degrade as fast for that kind of work. For races, you're going to feel the benefits of race foam at any weight, it's more about finding the right shoe and the SC Elite v5 has typically been good for heavier runners. I think the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite v3 (rides much different than the non-elite, which I personally didn't like) could also work. I've heard the v4 isn't as good.

Steady runs. I rotate them with one of my pairs of the Evo SL, Megablast, Superblast 3, speed 5 and Deviate nitro for these kind of runs.

I have both and the Magnify isn't as narrow as the Velocity/Deviate. If you have wide feet though I'd probably skip Puma altogether as people often find it problematic. The Foreverrun Nitro 2 isn;t as narrow either.

I think Adidas Boston 13 is pretty good. Very stable, good grip, not narrow on toe box and offers good energy return but not too soft like the Evo SL. My favourite are still Puma Velocity 4 and the Deviates but they are for the narrow feet. Though the Deviates 4s that are coming out will be wider than the 3s so worth having a look as well I reckon.

Long runs are always Adidas Bostons. Speed and track are Puma Deviant...with track work with newer shoes, and off track speed work being my older pair. For easy days and non-specific running I wear Saucony Triumphs. I love the Bostons for distance - I haven't found anything that matches them for wearability over 30km (but open to suggestions). The Puma's feel so right at faster paces, but by 15km they're not the most comfortable. Saucony is just easy. I literally never think about them - slip on and go.
