I 100% agree about superblast 2 at a slower pace. I’ve been loving the puma magmax nitro. You can get v1 on sale now that v2 is out, and it’s a great shoe.
I have hallux limitus so need stiff rockered shoes. I’ve therefore spent a lot of money arrive at this. Base mileage at slow pace: Hoka Bondi / Puma Magmax v1 Quicker workouts: Nike Zoom Fly 6 / Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 Long Runs: ASICS Superblast 2 Race Day: Saucony Endorphin Pro 4
I have the Bondi 9s and while not very fun, they tick the shock absorption criteria very well. As do the puma magmax and brooks glycerin max. These 3 make your classic stable recovery max stack trio. Then there’s the Nike vomero plus and premium. Other shoes like the Mizuno Neo Zen and Wave Rebellion Pro 3 mentioned lack the stability I’m guessing you need.
I have the MagMax 1 and heard the same about the 2: toebox is ok but midfoot is on the narrow side. At least for the 1 I can confirm they are narrow behind the pinky toe. Thoe toes themselves seem to be fine. I have flat-ish slightly wider feet.
I really like the magmax. It’s a monster of a shoe though and I struggled with the weight. Mine are at 550km and still excellent, i wouldn’t buy it as a dedicated long run shoes but is a great all rounder for anything but fast work.
Magmax OG is so protective and normal feeling at the same time. With pace, Prime X2 Strung is so protective and propulsive at the same time.
I can't speak to some of those brands, but my Hoka skyflow were good and I just got the puma magmax v.1 which are freaking awesome and are on sale for $89 at Scheels.
Haven't tried v2, but enjoy my v1 for such runs.
I'm doing the bulk of my marathon training in the Puma Magmax v1, they are heavily discounted now.
The Magmax can easily handle a half marathon. I've done 32km in mine. Mind you I'm just running to finish the marathon, preferably in under 5 hours. So if you wanted to run a faster half marathon you would probably want a lighter shoe. I've done a half marathon in a pair of Novablast 4 for example.
Same here, I'm loving the Magmax. I was worried they'd feel too heavy, but they have been fine. I ran 21km on Sunday in them and I was less tired than the same run in a pair of Asics Nimbus 25.
If you're looking to for a good max cushion shoe to try out I would personally snag the Puma MagMax Nitro 1s while they're on clearance. I'm on my second pair because at \~$125 they're an amazing shoe. They're currently my go to long run shoe (18-22 miles). They feel more bouncy than soft as well.
The MagMax is good for long, recovery, easy runs. I prefer the OG to the 2, the 2 feels a bit firmer to me but still does what you need it to do. I would pick the Vomero premium if you go with Nike. The Vomero plus would have so overlap with the two shoes you have already
Saucony Hurricane 25 or the MagMax if you want comfort and cushion, only. They both are very good long run shoes, very good at the easy, steady paces.
Puma MagMax is great for those long runs! The Nitro foam is hard to beat, imo
Not to me, and this is from someone who would only run in Altras for years! I wouldn’t do speed work in them but I could do a long progressive run in them, longer tempo runs.
Puma MagMax, Glycerin Max and Glideride max are some of the shoes I use for longer runs, recovery runs
