SUPERBLAST 2
Marathon workhorse, but loud and clunky at slow paces.

Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
Okay, got ‘em! Three 5k runs in. Notes: -Nice fit -Wide platform great for my stability needs -Tested v1 way back. I definitely feel the weight reduction of the v2 -Lesser rocker is fine -Firmer than v1…? I wish these had more trampoline bounce like the Megablasts. Do they need more break-in time? What are other options? Glizzy Max v1? But they are heavy.
I am a plodder as well. The Megablast is light with a nice ride, but overkill for my plodding. The MagMax 2 should be perfect for me with the responsive bounce and added stability that I need compared to the Megablast. The MagMax 2 is not as rockered as the Megablast, which may take getting used to. I like a highly rockered shoe. And the MagMax 2 does not have as much propulsion (?). Additionally, I am glad they lightened up the v2. I think it is around 10oz or just below for men’s size 10.

What is the point of a shoe that takes forever to break-in? 😂 I wanna pull the trigger, but the LONG break-in time is a major turn off. And people say they are very stiff…but that may work for my over pronation since they provide stability and support. I am currently a few runs into the Puma MagMax. So far so good after a few easy 5k runs. Good balance of cushion and support with my moderate pronation. Supportive enough for my bunion on my right foot through the runs. Bouncy but not squishy. Not too rigid/stiff. Heavy stated weight, but feels lighter on foot. It is definitely a clunky shoe which I hope to get used to (only negative so far besides the weight, which seems to be a non-factor). I like it but always looking for the next best shoe… I am a slow runner (and mostly 5Ks), so the MagMax may be the better choice over the SB2. I do like that the SB2 feels and looks less big/clunky than the MagMax though. You can even tell by looking at pics 🤔
Magmax OG is the superior shoe for me. Just a touch more “dialed” feeling. The 2 fits sort of sloppy and the midsole is good but I like the OG more
I’m 200-210lbs (90-95kg????) and yeah I love the magmax. I’m on my second pair
The first pair isn’t done, but they’ve been relegated to the treadmill. They have about 250 miles on them but I bought them half a size too small and my runs have gotten too long with too many hills to deal with them.
I 100% agree about superblast 2 at a slower pace. I’ve been loving the puma magmax nitro. You can get v1 on sale now that v2 is out, and it’s a great shoe.
I love the rebel v5, one of my favorite shoes of the last few years. But I tried taking it for longer efforts and it didn’t feel great. Lately I’ve been loving the puma magmax as a long run shoe. V1 is on sale now, highly recommend.
I hear you! I have wide feet, but the magmax was unique among Puma because I had no issue
This is my experience too. The foam in the "2" is softer and puts the brakes on my feet, whereas the foam in the "1" springs me forward.

I have hallux limitus so need stiff rockered shoes. I’ve therefore spent a lot of money arrive at this. Base mileage at slow pace: Hoka Bondi / Puma Magmax v1 Quicker workouts: Nike Zoom Fly 6 / Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 Long Runs: ASICS Superblast 2 Race Day: Saucony Endorphin Pro 4
I have the Bondi 9s and while not very fun, they tick the shock absorption criteria very well. As do the puma magmax and brooks glycerin max. These 3 make your classic stable recovery max stack trio. Then there’s the Nike vomero plus and premium. Other shoes like the Mizuno Neo Zen and Wave Rebellion Pro 3 mentioned lack the stability I’m guessing you need.
Yeah just ran a half marathon in a literal blizzard last weekend in MagMax 1 - only slipped once, which is pretty good when racing 13.1 miles in 4+” of fresh snow with temps well below freezing. Puma Grip + wide base = the best you’re gonna get in a road shoe.
Ran Chicago in the MagMax 1! I’m not fast enough to need a special race day shoe, but this shoe got me to my A goal time and it was the first shoe I wasn’t **dying** to take off at the finish line. I did all my long runs in the MM, too - have over 600 miles in them so far (across two pairs). Completely recommend MM if you’re not a speed demon.
