The Fast-R3 fits similar to the Deviate Nitro 2 and Velocity Nitro 2: narrowish in the forefoot and a touch long, but not virtually unusable like the Deviate Nitro 3. I have run a half marathon in the FR3 and had no issues with my feet whatsoever.
I'm having issues too! Brooks really changed the shape of their shoes after 21. The adrenaline 21gts was my favorite. And I would pick the glycerin over adrenaline these days. I really liked the new balance 860 and just bought a 880 pair off mercari. The ones I've been recommended but have not tried is the asics gel kayano, new balance 1080, new balance 880. Currently running in Nike pegasus 39 (felt horrible for the first 100 miles, but the foam got better with time) and I'm liking it in my rotation right now. Have 280+ miles on it Puma velocity nitro 2 - love hate relationship but seems to flare up plantar fascitis being a narrow midfoot. can't wait to retire this shoe, just crossed 100 miles Saucony kinerva - not liking the low drop but breathed new life to it by putting in super feet inserts and we're tolerating right now. Probably retiring them out soon too due to too many miles (everyday wear, plus I run in them. They're prolly already dead) 120 running miles but probably 300+ walking miles
Puma Velocity Nitros are your best bang for buck. Puma V Nitro 2s are excellent and if you can find them can go very low in sales.

I currently have too many shoes and not enough time to run. So calling them a rotation is probably stretching the truth. Hoping to get back into heavier mileage in the next couple months when I will make use of the rotation more. Long runs/recover: Puma MagMax Daily/Tempo: Evo SL, Velocity Nitro 2 (about to retire at 400 miles), just ordered Neo Zen 1 on discount to replace VN2, still occasionally dust off some WaveRider 27s and Neo Vistas that are over 600 miles Threshold/Intervals: Deviate Nitro 2 (about to retire at 420 miles), Brooks Hyperion Tempo (never really enjoyed them, likely to retire soon), Streakfly 2 Race: Metaspeed Sky (likely to retire soon) for 10K+, Streakfly 2 for 5k I don't love the Streakfly 2s and actually think my Achilles troubles that started last summer might have been caused by them (or more accurately by me doing too much in them). Would like to maybe find some Adios for cheap to use for workouts and 5ks and some Deviate Nitro Elite 3s for 10k + races.
Surprised Puma isn't a more popular response here. That would be my choice (Velocity for daily, Deviate for tempo, Deviate Elite racer), but I don't think I agree with your critiques of other brands. Adidas max cruiser -- Supernova Prima or PrimeX fit this bill ASICS -- if anything they're competing against themselves by offering too many tempo options: Sonicblast, Magic Speed, S4+ Yogiri, Hyperspeed (budget, shorter efforts) together with their highly versatile trainers Superblast, Megablast, and Novablast. They're not my favorite, but it's not for lack of quality options. Saucony -- are you saying their daily trainers are good but their offerings in other categories are lacking?
No. But it is nice. I have Boston 12 and puma velocity 2 which are less cushioned. I really like the bostons.
6'2" 75kg runner here. I've covered 500kms in Puma VN2 and replaced them with Adizero SL2s. Covered 450+ kilometers and I can't find a replacement daily trainer. Tried the Nimbus 26s but they were too bulky for my daily 5Ks. Can you suggest me a good replace for my SL2s? I usually do 5Ks on most days and use Puma DN2s and Noosa Tri 16s for speedwork. I was thinking of Puma ForeverRun or Adidas Evo SLs but I'm open to other brands.
Thank you for your response. I look into the Peg41s if they are on sale anytime soon or get another pair of SL2s or VNs. The Noosa felt crisp and nimble initially and is good for tempo runs. They feel immensely flat and unresponsive around the forefoot, almost flip-flop-esque but they do wonders to my pace so I end up choosing them over the SL2s for tempos.
I am no expert but if you only have mild over pronation I wouldn't look at stability shoes. I over pronate a lot and run in neutral shoes, try looking at the stable neutral shoes recommended here : https://www.doctorsofrunning.com/2023/04/the-best-stable-neutral-running-shoes.html?m=1 Stable neutral shoes are neutral shoe that have good stability elements and are shoes I've had success with. I currently have and get on well with : Puma Velocity 2 (3&4 don't work for me though) Hoka Clifton 9 Hoka Mach 6 Hoka Bondi 9 Edit : It's also quite a common joke that anyone who goes for a gait analysis will end up with a pair of brooks stability shoes afterwards
You, my friend, do not have a problem. I have 8 pairs of carbon plated shoes - 3 Alphafly 1's, 2 Vaporfly 2's, 1 VF 3, 1 Adios Pro 3 and 1 Metespeed Sky. The only one I regret purchasing are the Asics. I have 7 daily trainers and I reget buy 3 of them (Glycerins, Endorphin Speed 3's and Velocity Nitro 2's). I had more daily trainers but I either retired them or gave them away. I find a lot of daily trainers suck.
Puma R3 - competition Puma DNE3 - speedwork (comp. before R3) 2 x Puma DN3 - Tempo up to 10k-ish pace (got 2 pairs 'cuz double threshold days) Puma velocity - easy <- wouldnt buy again, DN3 - better fast dailytrainer, magmax -better easy shoe IMO Puma Magmax - easy & recovery i use the DN3 / DNE3 as trailshoe, IMO somewhat casual-competative trailrunning gets too fast for normal trailshoes if trails are not technical.
Puma especially since they now have the top-of-the-list raceshoe aswell at the moment. everything is just 20-30% cheaper then the competition, stuff is durable, grip is good. the only real lack in puma was a high-end supershoe for very fast people, but that has been solved with the r3. magmax is a good max-cushion, velocity is a good dailytrainer, you have the plated dailytrainer with DN3 that is durable for like 600-800km. DNE3 is good enaugh for me for non-technical competative trailracing and shorter races where i dont want to grind away the moneys-worth of my R3's. the only thing missing is a good trailshoe for very technical hiky-type of trails.
Not on your list. But personally I travel with more traditional less stack less rocker with good grip. Such as: Reebok floadride upper is breathable But now since I retired them I switch to Mizuno rebellion sonic If going to colder country I personally will use puma velocity nitro
