I weigh a bit less than you (166) and they are still doing ok at 350km. TBF I have a 5 trainer rotation so they have a lot of downtown for the foam to expand. The AG3 GRVL I’ve been liking, a little firmer than the nb5
Aero glide 3 GRVL for sure. I have the regular version and the tread wore quickly so the GRVL is the way to go. I have over 500 miles on mine and the midsole remains amazing. Bouncy, protective and the upper is comfortable. Light shoe as well
Thank you for sharing this. I was between the Craft Xplor 2 (not Pro) and the H1 and ended up choosing the Xplor. I've always been curious if I made the right choice and this post helps validate that I did. I have 300 miles on my pair and have enjoyed it from the beginning, but I was curious if I might be missing out on the H1. It sounds like the H1 is a great shoe, just less cut out for my particular use cases (semi-technical trail and gravel). Have you tried the Aero Glide 3 or 4 GRVL? I put 500 miles into v3 and will likely get v4 when my Xplors die. I'm a big fan! They are less stable (bouncy and tall) than the Xplor, so not ideal for more technical trail, but I was able to throw down a 37-miler on groomed trails easily in them. Mostly I used them on logging roads and gravel trail. If you haven't tried them, I highly recommend!
**Runner Profile:** 150 pounds, heel striker with less than ideal form, 50-75 miles/week, minimum of 10 pairs in my shoe rotation at all times **Other Shoes I Love:** Original MagMax, Glycerin Max, Salomon Aero Glide 3, Triumph 20, Evo SL **First Run:** 8 miles @ 9:40/mile pace on mossy sidewalks, pavement, wet grass, mud, and gravel. **Fit:** True to size. My one complaint about the original MagMax was that it was slightly snug when the laces were tight enough for lock-down. That is not a problem in v2. The upper seems more relaxed. The rear/heel is slightly roomy, as it was in the original, and I had some heel slip, but tightening the laces fixed it without compromising the fit in the mid- and forefoot. Other reviewers are saying otherwise, so YMMV. There is plenty of room in the toe box for normal width feet. **Cushion:** A few reviewers have said it is slightly firmer than v1. I disagree. Step-in feel is much softer. When running, it feels less soft than step-in, but still softer than the original MagMax. It has a little squish to it, whereas v1 is more of a firmer-style cushion. **Ride:** This shoe reminds me of the Nike Vomero Plus and the Salomon Aero Glide 3. It's bouncy, but not aggressive. A smooth, soft bounce. It doesn't have much of a rocker. I didn't have any stability issues, even in chunky gravel and on unmanicured grass. Other reviewers say they felt some heel instability at faster paces, so that's something to note. It's obvious the foam is different than v1. It feels more refined. Smoother and slightly more responsive. **Weight:** I didn't think I'd notice the little bit of decrease in weight, but I did. It made a much bigger (positive) difference than expected. **Grip:** I don't even need to say anything here. It's great. **Looking Forward:** I plan to use these for daily, recovery and long runs. I can see them slotting into my collection as my next go-to all-arounder. These are just plain comfortable and fun.
Oh man, that's hard. I put 500 miles on the Aero Glide 3, including multiple ultras, so it has a special place in my heart. I am loving the MagMax 2, but I would have to go Aero Glide 3 if I *had* to choose between the two, simply because of the weight difference (and I'm probably biased, for the reason stated above). That being said, now that it is winter, I would choose MagMax 2 because it is grippier. If you live in a wet or snowy area, that is something to consider. The Aero Glide 3 is fine, but MagMax 2 is better in that aspect. I wrote a pretty in-depth review on the Aero Glide 3 if you are interested (just scroll down a few posts on my profile).
Yeah, that slight firmness in v1 is nice for a lot of use cases! I'll need a replacement for that kind of shoe still with v2 being softer, but I am not at all sad about that. I love a soft shoe and primarily got v2 because of the grip anyway. I've been looking at the Mount to Coast lineup for a firmer shoe to add to my collection. We talked about that a couple months ago and I am still going back and fourth on it. I wish I could find somewhere to try them on. I keep hearing amazing things about the Puma lineup, especially the ones you mentioned being absolute bangers. I have only ever tried the MagMax because I live for ultra cushioned shoes and worry the others don't quite match my desired cush level. Maybe the Magnify would fit my firmer (but not too firm) spot though?
Nice review! I just got both the Aero Glide 3 road and GRVL versions and had a great 5-mile first run in the road and will take the GRVL version out on some mild gravely trails (with about a mile on the road to and from the trails) in the coming week. I have more than enough shoes and am currently using the Neo Zen, NB5, and the SL2 for easy daily runs, but could not resist the AG3 based on all the positive reviews. The NZ and NB5 are pretty soft, even for a light guy like me who's 5'7 (167cm) and 127lbs (57kg), so I thought something a little firmer and balanced but still bouncy would be a good thing and the AG3 is exactly what I was looking for. The AG3 reminds me a little of the SB2, which is my favorite all-rounder and what I use most of the time on long runs (steady long runs at fixed paces or long workouts with various types of runs and paces). It feels very responsive and solid and I really like the more balanced feel without too much compression. About half of my mileage are on the trails and most of the trails in my neighborhood have steep rocky hills and can get technical, but I can string together some routes that are relatively flatter with gravel and dirt, so I figured the GRVL version would be nice to have when I want to go on easy long road-to-trail runs. Looking forward to it. I'm very impressed with the AG3. It complements my other non-plated daily trainers nicely and will also work great for long runs along with the SB2, MTC R1, and MagMax. Salomon seems on their way to make serious inroads to the road running market.
Hey, I am searching for a solid Long Run Shoe for the summer, which means breathability is one of the main focus points. I already own the Salomon aero glide 3 grvl version, which is a good shoe, but I feel my feet will be getting hot very quickly when it gets warmer now. I have a 12h road race coming up, where I will aim to run 100k, so the long run shoe should be able to handle long long runs. I will probably train with B2B long runs for this and probably use 2 shoes for the race so the new shoes should be able to handle up to 6 hours of running. I will pair them with the salomons. My pace for the ultra will be around 5:40/k, my long runs typically are in a range of 5:00-6:00/k. I usually run 95% road and maybe 5% on loose gravel so no real trail running. I weigh 85kgs and am probably a midfood striker, definitely not heel. I usually tend to like Adidas shoes, currently using Boston 13, Evo sl and adios pro 3s, but I am open to any brand. Thank you in advance!
So I was originally looking for a replacement for my Saucony Hurricane 24. To be clear, I didn’t really need to replace it. Part of this is just me being a sneakerhead long before my running era and that weird good feeling even though alam mong nabudol mo na naman sarili mo. LOL That said, what I was looking for was very specific. PURPOSE I wanted a highly cushioned, highly protective shoe for easy runs and recovery runs. Something that offers good comfort, impact absorption, and protection, but without feeling clunky or heavy. Ideally lighter than the Hurricane 24. I also wanted something with a bit of responsiveness, closer to something like my Vomero Plus, not just a dead recovery tank. At first, I was actually leaning toward staying in the Saucony family. I really like Saucony uppers and step-in feel, so my initial shortlist ended up being the Hurricane 25 versus the Salomon Aero Glide 3. After comparing materials, reading reviews, and asking around, I landed on the Aero Glide 3. For me, it simply looked better, and based on feedback, it sounded more responsive and lively than the Hurricane 25. Price was roughly the same, around 9 to 10k, so that didn’t really factor into the decision. I ordered it from a Japan-based Shopee store that I’ve bought from before. They source directly from Japan, so I was confident it was legit. I picked what I think is a badass colorway. LOOKS When it arrived, the first thing that hit me was the color. Photos honestly don’t do it justice. There are a lot of vibrant shoes out right now, but this one just looks premium in person. I work around creative and graphic design a lot, and you can kind of tell when a color treatment just feels more refined. This one definitely does! WEIGHT Second impression was the weight. I didn’t weigh it, but you immediately feel how light it is. Noticeably lighter than the Vomero Plus. It honestly felt almost as light as my Saucony Ride 17. In my current rotation, the only thing that feels lighter is my Megablast. For a max-cushion shoe, this is impressively light. Design-wise, I actually really like it. I know some reviewer (Believe in the Run) said that certain design elements don’t make sense, but I feel the opposite. That cavity underneath the midfoot to heel makes mechanical sense to me. It allows the foot to splay a bit on impact, reduces weight, and gives the shoe that subtle compress-and-rebound feeling. UPPER The upper construction is also very smart. There’s minimal stitching inside and outside. Most of the tension and structure seems to be pulled toward the back, forming that shark-fin-looking lace anchor. It’s kind of like tying all your hair into one ponytail instead of managing it in multiple places. Everything feels unified and clean imo. STEP-IN FEEL Step-in feel is seamless. The interior feels smooth, almost like a single-body construction. Laces feel premium, the tongue is longer than average but stays in place perfectly, and overall it just feels well thought out. FIRST RUN On my first run, I took it out for a 6K easy run. And honestly, I was kind of shocked by how light and effortless it felt for a maximalist shoe. The midsole sits in a really nice sweet spot. It’s not mushy, but it has enough plushness to absorb impact. There’s also enough firmness that I don’t sink into it, which matters for me as a heavier runner. The energy return is genuinely good. Salomon uses Energy Foam Evo here, which I believe is an eTPU blend, whereas the previous version was EVA. Whatever they changed, it works. The shoe has a surprisingly wide pace range. You can cruise slow, but it also picks up pace easily when you want to. The rocker feels natural, and transitions are smooth. In terms of responsiveness, I wouldn’t say it matches the Vomero Plus. The Vomero Plus is probably 10-15% more responsive. But unless you’re really pushing the pace, you’re not going to notice that difference much. That cavity under the midfoot and heel really shines whether you heel strike or midfoot strike. You can feel the shoe compress slightly downward and then rebound you back up. It’s a really satisfying, unique sensation, and I think it also makes this a great recovery shoe. ANY COMPARABLE SHOE? If I had to compare the ride feel to something, it actually reminded me a lot of the On Cloud Surfer Max. The impact sensation is very similar. Light, smooth, non-clunky. I’d say the Aero Glide 3 maybe has a touch more pop, but they’re in the same family of feel. STABILITY Despite the streamlined shape and not having an overly wide base, stability is very good. There are subtle raised sidewalls that do their job quietly. I slightly overpronate, I have borderline flat feet, and I’m borderline 2E. This felt stable and supportive without being intrusive. FIT Fit-wise, this is excellent. For borderline 2E feet like mine, it fits TTS. Toe box is accommodating without feeling sloppy. No heel slippage at all. Lockdown was great, and I didn’t even need runner’s loops. For sizing, I’d recommend true to size. If you have narrow feet, I wouldn’t size down. Just wear thicker socks and lock it in properly. For regular, slightly wide, and even wide feet, this should work very well. So pwde sya sa malapad ang paa, di gaanong malapad ang paa, medyo narrow ang paa…✌😅 Upper is also very breathable and comfortable. No hotspots, no pressure points. It feels…premium. OUTSOLE Outsole grip is above average. Definitely better than the Hurricane 24, and I’d even say better than the Vomero Plus in dry conditions. Lots of uneven roads and direction changes, and it handled everything confidently. I haven’t tested it in the wet yet, but based on the Contagrip, I expect it to do well. Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase. After a 6K run, I felt fresh…feeling ko 1k lang tinakbo ko. That’s probably the best way I can describe it. I’m definitely going to be stacking a lot of mileage in this shoe! つづく
It’s one of my top choice sana to replace my Hurricane. Kaso I already have Megablast na. Glad I picked AG3. Very impressive shoe. One of those shoes na you’re really looking forward to lace up again. and yes…halos ayaw talaga magsale bukod sa ang hirap hanapin. pero worth it sya
I feel I'm completely alone in disliking the AG3. The bounce is admittedly great, but I had to size down because they run long so they're more narrow than I'd like and the laces continually get undone. I'm constantly having to stop and futz with them. I bought Novablast 5 at the same time and almost wish I jus got two pairs of those
Salomon aero glide 3 on sale right now for $157 CAD great shoe, falls somewhere between vomero plus and superblast on the soft to firm scale for cushioning
Didnt see this deal, good shout! I have the GRVL version as well and think they are my favourite winter running option
Save yourself some money and get salomon aero glide 3. Theyre on sale for half the price of the superblast 2 and are just as good if not better for daily training and long runs I have both, the salomons are a bit softer and bouncier. Still very stable
