I love my Azuras, have really wide feet and they do great. I use currex sports in all my shoes for my high arch but as for the shoes they feel good on my easy runs but let me pick it up on my tempos
I’m a very similar runner to you pace-wise and stability-wise. I’m running in the Asics SB3 and Saucony Azura after also searching for a HM shoe (brooks glycerin GTS for marathon training/long runs). Loving them both! The asics are much softer compared to the firmness of the Azura so it may be a personal preference as well. Good luck!
I didn’t think about it at first, and I usually prefer narrow shoes, but my pinky toe still hurts after wearing them a few times.
I had the opposite experience with them, they were very uncomfortable and caused calf issues. Sadly had to return after 40mi of struggles:(
Saucony Endorphin Azura! It’s amazing.
Puma magnify and magmax, Saucony Endorphin Azura (just came out), Novablast 5, Hoka Mach 6, (narrow foot friendly for sure), Tyr Maverick V1 are all lighter and protective but not mushy from my personal experience/research. The 1080v13 and v14 is also my go to casual/walking shoe and they increased the weight quite a bit from one to the other. But even then the 13 was a bit of a slog for me. I think modern trainers have the ability to pick up the pace and protect you on slower runs as well.
For a half marathon, most people prefer to have a shoe with a high stack height, not a low stack height. Even for 10k and 5k most people prefer to have a shoe with a high stack height, though for those distances some people prefer a lower stack height to have more ground feel (though not me personally, I use higher stack for any race distance). Personally for racing I usually use carbon plated shoes if I'm going for a PR, but for races I'm doing more casually I might wear something like Saucony Endorphin Speed, Saucony Azura, or Asics Superblast. For a half marathon though I still usually use a carbon plated shoe regardless of whether I'm trying to PR or not, just because I enjoy running in them and it makes running feel easier. For your upcoming race though, if today is Thursday and your race is on Sunday, I would not recommend using a new shoe for this race, I would just use a pair that you already own. But you can try out some options between this race and your next race.
I wouldn't. It's not a super recent model and that isn't a super good price. For some people these really work but for others they're clunky and not enjoyable to run in. The plate also limits versatility somewhat. If you're just going to get one running shoe I'd go for a supertrainer or elevated daily trainer. Something like a Puma Velocity Nitro 4, Endorphin Azura, Vomero Plus, EVO SL or Asics Megablast (though the Megablast is stupid expensive). The VN4 is lower stack compared to the rest but still an awesome shoe, the vomero is a bit heavy, the Azura is a bit firm and the EVO is unstable. There's tradeoffs to all of them but I'd still say they're better all round compared to the zoom fly. If it were up to me I'd 100% go for something Chinese. The Dynafish Xiaonian is a complete no brainer for an everything shoe for 1/3 the price of a megablast which also makes it insane value. The Li Ning Red Hare 8/9 Pro is also a great lower stack option that's half the price of the Xiaonian. Both use full stacks of high end foam, no cheap EVA carrier layer like the Zoom Fly. If you can't get TaoBao in your region (it's in a surprising number of countries now) though just go for the western ones above. All are good shoes
Also if you're concerned about speed the EVO SL, Megablast and Xiaonian are the fastest, followed by the Li Ning RH8/9 Pro. The Azura is the most stable and the Vomero is the most 'comfortable'. Just whatever you do go to your local outlets or find the cheapest prices online. Most of these can be found on pretty big sales
Almost 150km with my Azura, love them so much
