Marathon workhorse, but loud and clunky at slow paces.

Hi everyone, I’m a 28M, 62kg runner training for a sub-4:50 marathon (current PB 2:57). I have **very wide feet** and need help picking a race day shoe. The Context: I ran my last marathon in the Saucony Endorphin Elite v1 (EU 43) and absolutely loved them. The wide base and aggressive mechanical "pop" were perfect for me. Unfortunately, my pair has 350km+ and I fear it will be dead by race day. I cannot find a fresh pair of v1s in my size anywhere in Europe. To give you an idea of my foot shape, here is what works and what failed: * ✅ **Saucony Endorphin Elite v1 (EU 43):** Perfect fit. * ✅ **Adidas Adizero Evo SL (EU 43 1/3):** Fits great (wide toe box); Also **Adizero SL2** same size * ✅ **Saucony Triumph 21 (EU 42.5):** Good fit. * ❌ **Adidas Boston 12:** I had to return these. Even sizing up, they were painfully narrow for my midfoot/toes. The Dilemma / Current Options: I am looking for a shoe that can handle 3:47/km (6:05/mile) pace without crushing my feet. 1. **Saucony Endorphin Elite 2:** This seems like the logical successor, but I keep reading that the toe box is more tapered/pointy than the v1. Since the v1 was perfect, I’m terrified the v2 will crush my pinky toe at km 30. Does it actually feel narrower? I can't find them in any store to try them out. Also afraid it is way too soft 2. **New Balance SC Elite v5:** I know this is wide-foot friendly (especially the 2E option), but I’m worried about the "pop." The Elite v1 was aggressive and firm. Is the v5 snappy enough for a sub-2:40 effort, or is it too soft/mushy? (i know Alex Yee used this shoe...) 3. **Adidas Adios Pro 4:** Since I fit (& love) the Evo SL, I’m tempted. BUT, given that I hated the Boston 12 width, is the AP4 a lost cause? Is it narrower than the Boston 12? Has anyone with wide feet made the switch from Elite v1 to Elite v2 or SC Elite v5? Thanks!
just adding that the Elite V4 is in fact the best long run shoe i’ve ever used. I wish i had 10 pairs. Could run in this shoe forever.
Endorphin Pro 4 is too. Both SC Elite 4 and 5 are pretty stable.
I can only recommend what I’ve used, which include Saucony Endorphin Pro 3, Endorphin Elite v1, Adidas adios pro 3 (loved the ride but the upper cut into my heel so limited usage for me), and about to use the NB elite 5 next weekend. Of those I liked Saucony elite the most. I’m just sub-1:30 in the half.
Fellow hobbit here. I also love the endorphin elite 1's. What did you end up buying, if I may ask? Im in need of a long run shoe, as I want to spare my last pair of elite 1's. Struggling hard to find a long run shoe.
Hello fellow geeks! At this point I dont know if I like more running or getting shoes - I usually buy the shoes I tend to like more or get excited about, but most of them are really versatile. I am starting a new training block for a 30k race that will have 4 runs: 1. Intervals (600m) - around 4:00/k 2. Easy/recovery - around 5:30-600/k 3. Tempo - 5:00/k 4. Long run - same as easy And now I am trying to designate which shoe will do what - of course I will change this designation if I feel like it, but I am curious to hear thoughts from other people as weird as I am. For context: \-M35, 1.78m, 80kg. \-Been running for around 1.5y. \-10K pb: 46min (may 31) \-Half pb: 1h46min (mar 15) The shoes I own: 1. Megablast (255km) Love it, bouncy and protective. Usually do intervals and long runs 2. Sonicblast (40km) Impulse-bought it. Still getting used to them, low mileage on them so far - kind of firm but I like it. Currently using for tempo a considering for easy runs. 3. Superblast 2 paris (560km) Used them for a lot of long runs. With higher mileage now, using for easy runs, replacing my novablast 5 which as flat and causing me pain. 4. Superblast 3 (120km) Using for long runs I want to keep it easy given softness. Now considering for the easy/recovery as well given so much pillowy feeling. 5. Superblast 2 (new on box) Bought it as it was very discounted and is one of my favorite shoes. Waiting for the sb2 paris to die so I can start using it. Not sure how tho - it could do any of the runs, so its a wild card. Now the carbon county: 6. Saucony endorphin elite 1 (22km) Bought it for my 10k race. Really like the firm and responsive feel of it, worked well with my mechanics. 7. NB SC Elite v5 (new on box) Another impulse purchase. It was discounted so I went for it given I was looking at reviews all the time. Will use it for intervals and long runs to decide between it and the saucony for the 30k race. Curious to hear your thoughts on the use cases dor each. Realize there are lots of overlap but I do it for the fun, not to make sense 😅 Let me knownid there are any shoes I might be missing, who knows…..
