Finally, someone other than me that noticed this. Saucony nerfed the plate and foam in the Speed 2. I had the OG and the plate was stiffer and the foam had ever so slightly more energy return to it. Turn-over was snappier. With the first gen shoe, no one was buying the Endorphin Pro, because there just wasn’t much difference in the performance. Saucony nerfed version 2 to create a little more separation between the Speed and Pro. For me, the 2 was a bit more relaxed for daily runs and the OG was a budget racer. I still have 2 pair of Speed 2s that don’t get much run time in them. They’re just not as fun as the original.
I haven't put more than 200 miles on any pair of Nikes. Every pair of Mizunos I've owned have lasted 350-400 miles and I put 500 miles on my Saucony Endorphin Speed 1s (best shoes ever). I am quick to retire my shoes when they no longer feel fresh and/or my runs feel hard for no other reason. I retire my carbon plated shoes (Saucony Endorphin Pros) at 200 miles. Most of my shoes are Saucony; they fit me well and last the longest by far.
Mach x2 > superblast for me But I never have heel collar issues from them Endorphin speed 1 and 2 still my GOAT long run shoe for long runs with speed segments
More exciting? Yes But better for long runs and regular easy day miles? No I've had all of these shoes and would gladly pick my Ride 18s over all of them for my long runs. It's an absolute daily workhorse that is great for easy or picking up the pace. Sure the others are faster but that's not what everyone is looking for. The Rides are very underrated IMO.
Hello I can’t seem to find a nice and slightly durable (probably can last 600k? or 1-2 seasons of workouts) shoe for longer track workouts. This pair will be used for the long tempos (3:45/k), intervals, and reps down to 5K pace at around 3:00-3:05/k. It doesn’t need to have a plate but I hope for some kind of pep in step and bounce with some firmness for the faster reps. I have tried these shoes: 1. Nike Vaporfly 2 - Firm and nice cushioning. I really like these but the shoe falls apart really easily in my humid country. Rain shreds the sides of the midsole. 2. Nike Vaporfly 3 - Same as VF2 but softer cushioning. I really prefer this shoe for my workouts but the shoe fails really easy. 3. Asics Magic Speed 3 - Felt overly firm (which I don’t really enjoy) but fast reps feel nice. 4. Li-Ning Feidian 5 Challenger - Slightly better than the Magic Speed 3 in terms of cushioning but hoped for more cushion underfoot. 5. Dynafish Xiaonian - Perhaps got a wrong size because my foot was swimming in the upper even when I got 1/2 size down. Difficult to go fast in the really soft foam. 6. Xtep 160X 3.5 Pro - Probably got the wrong size as it was really tight. Really nice and responsive but didn’t have any allowance for slower reps. (Basically the same as a Nike Streakfly but thick and bouncy. Becomes quite blocky on bad days.) 7. Endorphin Speed 1/2: Really nice shoe for tempo and faster stuff back in the day but the new versions (v3 and v4) seems lacking. 8. Adidas Takumi Sen 10: Nice as a trainer but the shoe feels bottom heavy for some reason. 9. Qiaodan Plaid 1.5: Nice and cushioned for the longer tempos and slower intervals. Becomes chunky and blocky and difficult to run with at faster paces. 10. Nike Streakfly 2: Really good for shorter reps. Light and fast. Cushioning abit lacking on longer reps. Durability is not really good. I’m thinking of using the Streakfly 2 for faster paces (5K and under) but I cannot find something that I like for broken up tempos/thresholds and longer tempo work at 5K pace and up. Are there any shoes that are worth trying out in the current market? Or are there any shoe that you have tried that you are satisfied from faster workouts? Thanks!
I retired them at 400 miles, but I retire everything at 400 so probably could have got another 100+ out of them. I wasn't huge on them though and felt the Megablast were a massive upgrade, to the point where I don't feel I need a racing shoe as the Megablast is more than fast enough for me.
And also depends a lot on your strength in muscles, tendons, etc to cope with the possible change in your gait. In my case, it fucks with my Plantar fasciitis and overall foot, but if I train carefully in a softer Nylon plated (saucony speed 2 for example) and then run a race on the carbon plated shoe I will be not suffer pain, and while I wont go "faster" I can maintain the pace in the last stages of the race because what I notice the most is how much less fatigue I get from all the impact
Because in a race you do not go flat in the same pace all race, specially when the race is longer and longer. A CP Shoes won't make me do a 42km race a a faster pace all the race, but thanks to the efficiency, reduced impact fatigue, etc, would make me able to maintain a steady pace in the last stages instead of dropping of to slower paces. Yes, it means that I will complete the race faster than with normal shoes, but that do not means that I was going at at a faster pace . If tried go faster I might get injured anyways if my body can cope with the new pace
Saucony speed 4 on sale right now on running warehouse l. Great firmer option that u can race in. I can a marathon and a few half marathons in the speed 2. I personally love EVO SL buts it’s a little soft. I don’t mind it Those would be my two options if ur on a budget and want 1 shoe.
