Well, if possible to persuade you, the newer Escalante is great. I use Torin's as well, go back and forth for road runs. They hold up just fine for me. Just put down a pair of Torin's after 600+ miles. With Escalantes, I usually get around 400, but the most recent model seems to be lasting a bit better. I've got about 380 miles on them so far and they're still going strong, mid-sole feels good. I tried on Topos and hate the arch support, and find most other shoes too narrow in the forefoot. I recall I had the first model of the Kinvara and absolutely loved them. Wore them until the cushion was just plain dead. Have tried on more recent models but they're far too narrow. Curious where you'll land.

I run through a metric ton of shoes and I think people make too big of a deal out of which shoes to choose. Have a few trusted models that you know fit you well and just hunt for whatever is on sale. Personally Boston 13 and EVO SL are my go to for everything, and Boston 12 and saucony kinvara are the only shoes I’d say absolutely fucking sucked. But otherwise I’ll run in whatever.

Saucony for me, there shoes just seem to be right for me. Endo speed, Endo Pro and Triumph are all favourites. And kinvaras have also been favourite of mine

r/Marathon_TrainingDo I really need two pairs of shoes for marathon training?

This. I'm a multi-time Boston qualifier (and finisher). I've never used carbon shoes. I run my marathons faster than 4 min/km and the carbon shoe advantage barely starts at that pace. Save your money. Get good training shoes. I love racing and training in Saucony Endorphin Speeds, which do have a nylon plate, but they're an affordable shoe. For long runs in recent builds I've used Hoka Rincon, Adidas Adizero, and Saucony Kinvara, all bought on clearance, all great shoes.

You can save a lot of money by buying last year's shoes. E.g. one of my favourite shoes are Saucony Kinvaras and there's a local store selling last year's for $80.

Take a look at Saucony. Most of their road shoes have a decent tread that could easily handle occasional off-road use. For years I wore the Kinvara on trails in the PNW

Saucony Kinvara is my go-to daily trainer. Slightly lower stack height than the Pegasus, 4mm drop, and I love the fit of them for me personally

Ah, bummer! I'd stocked up on the Kinvara 12 when Sierra Trading Post had them for next to nothing at my local store so I've been using my back stock and hadn't looked to see what changes they'd made in between generations.

Slightly higher than your price point, but Saucony Kinvara and Hoka Mach 5 or 6 will fill your desired role nicely. I saw the Mach 6 on clearance today (Commonwealth Running) for about $116.

Saucony Kinvara is still the best lightweight shoe IMO. Lightweight, enough cushion without feeling like a bounce house, 4mm drop.

Saucony. I ran in the Kinvaras for almost 15 years! I recently switched to the Triumphs. I don't recall what model I used prior to the Kinvara...
