hate the 18, 16 and 17 (stocked up 4 pairs, almost done them)
I have the Speed 3 and loving it. Though very much jealous that you have the 5 - heard great things about it. Tried the speed 4 in store and that felt so good too. I have the triumph 21 and like that a lot too. Ride 18 in store was awesome - bought the 16 too soon, though not disappointed with it.
Try out the Saucony Ride or Endorphin speed (you’ll get the 3s and 4s on discount). If foot width(I couldn’t read fully) is an issue try the men’s shoes in the appropriate size (1.5 lower in men’s is the same size in women’s but had more width). If you want to try ASICS - the mega or sonic blast might work you - try them on first (if not available for you order and return as appropriate). You must be aware of short stride and landing under your body (as it relates to form that helps protects knees).
I have the same rotation and am also looking for wide super shoes because of a mild bunion. The Elite v4 irritates my left Achilles due to its hard heel counter. My current rotation further includes the Topo Atmos (wide enough, but not a racing shoe), the EP3 (too narrow), and the Saucony Ride 16 and 17 (Wide). I'm eagerly waiting for the RunRepeat review of the Elite v5, but I might go for the Cloudboom Strike (not the LS version). However, I'm concerned it might also have a problematic heel counter.
I’m not fast by any means compared to this group 😂 I’m 40F and a 4 hour marathoner… but I ran most of my runs and my marathons in the Nike Invincible 3 and did my shorter runs and speed runs in the Saucony Ride 16. So depending on your goals carbon plated isn’t necessary, but I do think 2 pairs of shoes is helpful.
I'll look into trying out different insoles. It's strange because I have heel slip in most of the running shoes I've tried on. The only ones I haven't experienced this with is the Asics Gel Nimbus Lite 3 and the Saucony Ride 16, but both were too narrow and the outside fabric of both shoes has completely come apart.
To me the saucony ride series is a great all rounder. Ran and trained in the Ride 16s from 10ks to half and full marathons.
I personally love Hoka Mach or Saucony PWR Run. I always size up (half to full size) than my normal shoe size as your feet tend to swell during runs. Everyone raves about Brooks but their shoes gave my shin splints and didn’t provide support. I recently discovered Mount to Coast R1 shoes and I LOVE them
How about Brooks Ghost or Saucony Ride? Both are about 7mm more than the Kinvara, so that probably qualifies as "a bit more" that you are looking for. These classics are going strong and are on their 17th and 18th iteration for a reason. I think this subreddit is so focused on the latest trends that commenters forget that these classics continue to exist and sell in huge numbers for a reason. Also, I'm not sure if you want low stack or firm - it's not necessarily the same thing! For example, On Cloudmonster 2 is higher stack but much more firm than the aforementioned Ghost and Ride.
