Based on 1 year's data from Mar 23, 2026 How it works
Depends on the tempo for me. I do some long, slow runs where I intentionally keep the heart rate down. For those, Triumph 23 or Vomero 18 is usually my pick. They just work well at the slower paces and feel gerat the whole time. For the ones I am picking up the pace a bit or pushing it, it's Superblast or Megablast. They both have more "get up and go" while not sacrificing comfort.
The Triumph 21 was so good. Not in a "wow these are exciting!" way, but in a "I can just put them on and not think about it no matter how many miles I do or don't run" kind of way. Just never had a shoe quite like that. It just chewed up miles. The Triumph 23 is fine, but doesn't disappear on my feet quite like the 21 did. The Vomero 18 is sliding into its place in my rotation lately.
Did a bit over 400 on my 21s. They're not totally retired, but are losing their magic a bit. I'm 200-ish pounds and run fast for my size, so they've had hard use. I know people tend to get more out of them usually, but I'm just one of those whose style is hard on shoes. My 23s are still new - just got them a few weeks ago, but haven't been out much since I got them due to being sick and nursing an angry hammy. Only have like 10mi on them so far.
21 is PWRRUN+ vs the new PRRUN PB, - just feels a bit different overall, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Though it's a bit tough to do apples-to-apples since my 21s have so many miles and it's tough to recall exactly how they felt when they were brand new. But overall, I'd say the 21 had a bit more "plush" feel to them, which I now get out of my Vomero 18s. The Triumph 23 is more responsive, so I think will be better for when I'm after a bit faster pace.
I'm down to 195 from 210 a few months ago - but run fast paces for my size. The Saucony Triumph 21 was my GOAT daily trainer, but the 22 and 23 just weren't the same. RAD UFO, Vomero 18 and Vomero+ are my current go-tos (in that order). All three have been very, very good to me so far.
I weigh less than you but not a petite flower either. I found the triumph 21 super durable...I would skip the 22 and get the 23. The ride 18 is closer to the 21. I get well over 400 miles (643K) with these shoes. Brooks are also great. So far the Hyperion Max 2 is great, at about 300 KM, no bottom, faster shoe. I am waiting for the Hyperion 3 as I need the forefoot to have a little more stack, i would think pretty durable. The Glycerine is a mileage eater, always great for 500 miles. Boston's when you get past the first 50 miles are great. Great. I know they are kicked when I start feeling the rods. around 500 miles. NB 3 lasted only 250 miles before i really started to hate them. I wanted them to be good. I tested the NB 5 and found it slappy and only protective at walking pace. It really worked against my running. Returned them after 45 miles. Unbearable. I think the shoe just did not work for me.
Just got the Saucony 23 Triumph GTX. Really cool looking, gore tex, and lots of cushion. They come in wide versions. Can’t recommend enough.
How would you compare the feel of the Triumph 23 to the Mach 6? Thomas Do Canto on the Inside Running Podcast likes both, and I also like the Mach 6 the most out of shoes in my rotation (using for daily/easy runs). Have been thinking about eventually adding the Triumph to the rotation as a second long run alternative to the Superblast 2
I’ve just bought a pair of saucony triumph 23, and I’m really happy with them. They offer a lot of comfort but are still light. Great toe box.
I was in your position (actually worse, I was heavier) when I started this year. Super flat feet, zero arch. Hard on shoes. Saucony Triumph 22 or 23 (I have multiple pairs of both models) have held up really well for me, are very cushioned, and work well with my flat feet. They also critically come in wide sizes (which helps with the flat foot problem as well, as flat feet are often also much wider than arched feet. Also testing out some New Balance Rebel V5s and Super trainer v3s, also in wide. Jury is still out on the durability (less than 100 miles on both of them), but they both are great as well.
Having run with the triumph 21, I switched to the triumph 23, I do not recommend. Severe pain in the ankles and lower shin from the 3rd km at a pace of 5'20.
Saucony Triumph 23 or Saucony Ride 18, Brooks Hyperion Max 2
Triumph 23 is a volume sneaker designed for longer and slower runs, very comfortable, protective. For a volume sneaker, it is lightweight, while feeling quite robust, the upper is pleasantly plush and fits the foot exactly, it securely wraps it, the heel is a masterpiece, it is brought up quite high, it is narrow and fits exactly, I was really surprised by how the heel is stabilized in the shoe and the shoe guides the foot when running, although it is not a stabilization sneaker, Saucony really did this.....a great gadget is the TPU foam insert, it is a nice boost to the overall cushioning of the shoe. Running is a pleasant experience, the ride is soft, sensitive and cushioned, it does not feel mushy at all, there is rather a feeling of propulsion and protection, it is easy to gain kilometers in it. I run in them at a pace of 4:30 - 5:30 min/km. The most comparable shoe could be the Glycerin 22 from Brooks. Adding the Triumph 23 to your rotation with the Superblast is a good idea, if you want to run faster on your long run, or do fartleks, then choose the Superblast, if you want to gain comfortable kilometers, then the Triumph. The only problem I would see with the Triumph is in hot weather (25 C and above) - the upper is quite plush and it can be hot in it. The Mach 6 is a completely different type of shoe, compared to the Triumph the ride is more flexible and more energetic, it fixes the pace beautifully, and it lifts very easily, that's why I use it for tempo runs 3:50 - 4:30, the upper will be fine, because I don't know about it when running :-). I wouldn't use the Mach 6 for longer runs than a half marathon, because it is not protective for longer runs, unlike the Triumph
for long runs I would definitely consider the Triumph 23, a great shoe, but if you run in the heat, a better choice would be the Ride 18, which is significantly more breathable, it is basically the younger brother of the Triumph 21, which in my opinion was the best iteration of this model ever. You can consider the Neo Zen, one of the best daily trainers on the market, it is very fair money. If money is not a limit for you, you can look at the Superblast or Megablast
Heavier and shorter than you and I've taken shoes to +600 miles, just add variety to your rotation by buying previous versions of shoes popular with heavier runners, I have a bias for all things Saucony given their foams are built like tanks, you can get the Hurricane 24s for sub $100, the Triumph 23s for $110 (I pushed the T20s to 645 miles). I have the SB2s but I'll be honest, I think I'll wear out that foam sooner then I'd hope to so I'm sparing them for long runs only.
I currently use the Triumph 23 but think I need something with more stability. I don't like the upper because it doesn't breathe well. They're ok for winter running, I don't think I'll be able to use them in summer. How's the Hurricane? According to runrepeat they're even less breathable.
