Topo Specter 2 (half size up) and Atmos or Atmos 2 in wide have been Godsends for me. Nimbus in 4E as well as Nike Pegasus/Vomero in XW have been getting less wide with each release. Specter 2s are a bit snug widthwise but they are so lightweight and bouncy I love them. Atmos are great in wide with plenty of room for my paddle feet. The natural toe box is truly a game changer, will have to give Altras a try someday but all "normal brand" Asics, Nike, even the NB 1080s in 4E seem to be getting more narrow, and after going Topo I don't think I'll go back. I'm 6'0" 195 lb and average 25 miles a week, 7:00/min is fast for me and 8+ is slower. Have had issues with Mortons neuroma in one foot which has been saved using Yoga Toes daily, wider daily shoes(Whitin brand on Amazon), and Topo for running. Edit: I just received and ran in the Atmos 2s in wide and they are a touch more narrow than the Atmos, small blister on one pinky toe I imagine they will be fine after a few runs. I also am a supinator/mid to forefoot striker.
Topos have anatomical toe boxes and also have wides in some of their shoes. They have shoes for comfort and cushion and the shoes that are more speed oriented. The phantom 4 and Atmos 2 are their cushioned, comfort shoes and the Cyclone 3 and Specter 2 are their speedier shoes
Topo has a whole line of wide toebox shoes. The Atmos is great for easy, long miles, the Phamtom is the daily trainer, the Cyclone for speed work and the Specter for longer speed efforts
The Topo Phantom 4 or Atmos. I have been a huge fan of Topo for a while now and now have all of their shoes. They are so overlooked but have great foams, great fits . . . I just did my long run this morning in the Atmos and it was a dream—I actually added on a 1/2 mile to my workout!
They actually narrowed the toe box in the Bondi this year so you may have to go with a wide width. It’s a lot firmer than I remember, but that may make it feel more nimble while running, enabling to go at different paces. I second the Topo recommendation. They have the Phantom for daily training, the Cyclone for speed work, the Atmos for recovery runs and the Specter for longer marathon training runs.
I love Topo for this. I use the Atmos 2 as my daily trainer. Wide toebox, but good fit everywhere else. I use their Ultraventure line for trails. I also like the Asics "blasts" lines for their toebox. I have loved the Novablast and Superblasts. However, the superblasts have a unisex fit, so I find them less well fitting. I also did a test run in the Sonicblast and liked them. I also recently tested the newest Nike Pegasus and liked the toebox on that one as well. The rep specifically mentioned that they had updated the toebox for a wider fit. Altra is good too and they have more > 0 drop shoes now. I tried and liked the newest Fwd Via. They tend to have less cushion and that's why I prefer topo. I don't like the fit of Saucony. If you can't tell, I am picky about toeboxes! I have a wider forefoot, but average everywhere else, so I don't typically like the fit of a wide shoe. I also don't like unisex fits, because I can't get good fit at the rear of the foot. I get to test run a lot of shoes through my running group. Edit: typo
Too much padding at least for me, same feeling with the 1080 and I would say the Atmos has more
I’m 113kg, if the Atmos is structured like the Ultraventure I have an issue with the cushioning caving and causing ankle issues. I know on the analysis at my local run store and on my base at the Health & Wellness Center, I’m labeled neutral. Just something to keep in mind. I am a fan of Topo’s toe box, but that’s about it.
They accommodate wide feet extremely well. Cushioned enough for those slow runs. Asics Nimbus 27, maybe another option. Hokas are extremely narrow for me, so I've never worn them. If you go to run repeat and get the app, you can look through the shoes and the width and the shoes used for and stuff. I use it for all my shoes.
6’ 225lbs. 35-45 miles/week on average. My current rotation: Brooks Glycerin 22 Brooks Glycerin Max Topo Atmos ASICS Superblast I wear the Glycerins when I plan on doing a balanced amount of walking and running. They strike a good balance for the two. For long recovery runs, I wear the Maxes. For easy miles, I use the Atmos. For days when I want to push the tempo, I wear the Superblast. If I was going to do two of those, I’d probably do the Glycerins and the Superblasts. I’d say they strike the best balance. You could really do either as a single shoe, but I think the Glycerins are better suited for slower work, and the Superblasts want to go faster. Trading the Glycerins for the Atmos would also be an option. They have a similar profile but are slightly softer, without being squishy. Plus they have the anatomical toe box, which helps with comfort.
Topo Atmos - the foot-shaped last is bliss, and lots of cushioning.
