Topo Aura, especially in wide. 5-drop. Topo usually has extra arch support, plus wide anatomical toe box. Saucony Guide 18- 4E is really wide, try on before ordering. 6-drop. Saucony Hurricane 25- wide, meaning 2E, 6-drop. Hoka Gaviota 5, or the new 6- again, wide is 2E, and they are 5-drop. Lots more options if 8-drop or stable neutral are options.
I literally just bought Topo Auras yesterday; I had Altras with a minimal drop (I tried the zero drop first and couldn’t deal with it.) but I’m loving the Topos so far!
Oof. Brooks adrenaline is not a fun shoe. Saucony Tempus and Puma Forever Run are both good. Asics GT2000 14 has updated foam (compared to previous versions) and it’s also a considerably more responsive option. As stability shoes go, those are your best options for something responsive. There are other options that still considerably better than the adrenaline (but not as lively as the first three): Glycerin GTS 22, Saucony Guide 17 or 18, Hoka Arahi 8, Topo Aura, and Asics Kayano if you like a mountain of cushion. There are tons of shoes out there in the “stable neutral” category - which can work very well if you don’t have significant overpronation. These are shoes that are inherently stable and provide a good deal of support without explicitly providing medial/pronation control. They typically have a very wide base, heel bevels that guide the foot and a pretty stiff heel cup/collar. The Doctors of Running have a lot of info on this topic. Insoles in any old shoes you like could also work well (although if you truly need stability, I’d steer away from massively high stacked shoes with very soft foam and no stabilizing elements). But honestly-the adrenaline 24 is about the most boring shoe out there. And although Brooks replaced/updated the foam in every other model they make with the newest models, the adrenaline 25 still has the exact same foam from like 1999. Committed to boring mediocrity and riding the name reputation like the Pegasus.
Ok, lost a toenail on the glycerin gts 21 and didn’t learn my lesson lol. Got the 22 and lost one as well. Basically I loved these shoes, until I didn’t. Which was around the 180 mile mark for me. I have started keeping a list of shoes I’ve tried on and what I did or didn’t like about them. So when newer versions come out I can try again. Currently - Topo Aura is winning. Takes a little getting used to bc it’s going from a 10mm drop in the glycerin gts to a 5mm drop. But the Aura is a stability shoe and I love it. (Topo Atmos was also great - kind of the non stability version of Aura.) Topo is known for a wide toe box on the regular size so you may not need the wide version. Brooks Ghost Max 3 is my newest shoe and so far I’m liking it. While not technically a stability shoe it has some stability properties. 6mm drop and plushy. My feet are exactly 8.4 each. Measures 8.5 w my max cushion socks. I wear a 9.5 in my running shoes.
I used to wear only Lone Peaks and yeah, they wear out fast. I cannot handle zero drop anymore, so i moved to Topo for the 5mm drop. Anyway, my point being... if you order them directly from Topo, you can try them and return them within 30 days, so you should go for it. I find the Topos last longer.
Topos over Altras. They aren't zero drop and have better cushion so more like normal run shoes. But much wider toebox.
Did you ever find an answer? I don't like zero drop, but love a wide toe box, topo are my go to.
You might try Topo Athletic. Same foot shape/wide toe box, but better arch support and not zero drop (protect those Achilles tendons).
Topo Athletic, mountain racer, ultra venture and the phantom are my favorites. They easily last me 800 miles of comfort. The laces never come undone and the uppers have never gotten holes.
Just want to second Topo for a wide toe box, they are great! They also come in a variety of support levels, with the more cushiony ones providing me the arch support I need for running on harder surfaces.
