r/BuyItForLifeCan a robot vacuum be BIFL? My experience so far
3 months ago

Still have a Roborock S5 I bought in early 2018. Once a year I break it down and get all the fur (cat and dog) out of its guts, it's a pretty wild amount that gets on the inside. Otherwise, keep filters, sensors and brush clean and the thing has been pretty bulletproof. Only issues I have had are software related with random wifi dropouts and refusing to connect to the App. But I've gotten used to just hitting the button (got tired of resetting wifi) on our way to work. We also have a Dreame S20 ultra that I've had for not even 2 years and it's been a less than stellar experience (battery doesn't last for the full clean anymore and needs to be piece-mealed, the hair cutting brush internal gearing mechanism siezed up and I had to open it up clean and lube, poor contact with dock resulting in slow or no charging, dock draining issues). It is significantly more complex than the Roborock S5 but I'm more confident than not that my next robovac purchase will not be a Dreame.

Both the S20 Ultra and L10S Pro Ultra Heat have RGB cameras. Only the S20 has a led fill light for dark environments, the L10S Pro Ultra doesn’t. I don’t think the obstacle avoidance on both machines will be as good as the X40 Ultra though. L10S Pro Ultra heat has warm water mop washing and mop extension.

Thanks for sharing! I hypothesize that the X50 Ultra's poor battery life is likely due to the more power-hungry computer chip it utilizes. My own experience with the L40s Pro Ultra (mainland Chinese version) had a *worse battery life* that struggled to finish cleaning my home whereas my much cheaper combo Xiaomi robot (also mainland Chinese version) that has the same battery capacity and is also made by Dreame would be able to vacuum first and then mop my small apartment and finish with 50%. Other reviewers have reported that the L40s Pro Ultra (non-mainland Chinese edition) had a bad battery life, just like me :( Hopefully, this issue will be fixed soon. I hope the Dreame Aqua 10 Pro Track doesn't suffer the same battery life issue, especially because it'll need a more powerful chip to process all the information coming from the HD binocular RGB cameras and the dot projector, and a power-efficient water heater in the robot to heat the water up.

r/RobotVacuumsMova Black Friday and Cyber Monday Buyers Guide
4 months ago

I literally can’t believe that we are already into November! I don’t know about you guys, but this year has flown by. My favorite part of November is gearing up for the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Personally, I really like to try to keep a clean house and I’ve been semi-obsessed with Robot Vacuums for a while now. I’ve owned many many robot vacuums and seen the technology progress from my super old Roomba that would bounce off walls with no discernible pattern or navigation, to the top of the line products from some of the rock stars of the Robot Vacuum world. I own Mova, Dreame, Roborock, and Eufy so I thought I’d share my thoughts. What are your favorite vacuums right now? Starting with the vacuums I'm most excited about, here is my Mova Buyers Guide and who should be buying it. Mova P10 Pro Ultra - Has many top tier features for an amazing price. I recommend this vacuum to everyone! This was the first major vacuum purchase I made and I’m still so happy with it! The P10 Pro Ultra can extend the mop pad and side brush against walls and baseboards, just like the more expensive vacuums. If you are looking to buy your first robot vacuum, especially in your new house or apartment, this is the one! Navigation and obstacle avoidance are wonderful, and the built in AI is able to recognize and alert you to many different objects. When the P10 Pro Ultra was released Mova was still building their name in many countries, but the P10 Pro Ultra was so impressive that it ended up winning multiple awards and lots of recognition. This is the vacuum I gave my parents, and they still thank me for giving them such a powerful cleaning tool in their home. If you are thinking of buying this robot vacuum, don’t hesitate. Mova Z60 - For people who need to clean up wet messes and want a flagship vacuum. I think this is perfect for households with kids! From the moment I pulled the Z60 out of the box, I knew Mova had created something special. This is Mova’s first entry into the wonderful world of roller mops. I already owned the Eufy E28 so I had an idea of what Roller Mops could do, but I feel like Mova really created a better product with the Z60. Because of the on-board storage tank, the Z60 will not only mop your floors but it can pick up wet messes other robot vacuums can’t. There is one universal truth about having kids, they make a mess! Whether it's toddlers spilling food from their high chair, dirty shoes by the front door, or a messy art project, this vacuum can tackle it all! I love spinning mop pads but a roller mop is more efficient. My favorite feature on the Z60 is the AutoShield that covers the wet mop roller when it encounters carpet. The shield slides into place and keeps your carpet and rugs dry. The Z60 comes in 2 different models, the Complete and the SA version. They are extremely similar but the Complete comes with a ton of additional accessories and it has a little more suction at 28,000 Pa of suction vs 26,000 Pa. The only difference is their threshold climbing, the Complete has the extendable legs to climb up thresholds up to 1.89 inches (48mm), or 3.15 inches (80mm) for a double threshold. The SA can still climb, but only 0.86 inches (22mm). If you like additional replacement accessories and you need to climb larger thresholds, the Complete is for you. Mova V50 - For people with pets who want one of the best spinning mop pad robots. This vacuum takes care of my puppies! I really like the V50 and I can tell that Mova put a lot of thought into this robot vacuum. Upon opening the box I immediately noticed the 2 different cleaning solutions and the cartridge that can hold both. What sets this vacuum apart from similar vacuums like the Dreame X50 (they both have the ability to climb thresholds and lower the Lidar tower), is the focus on solutions for pet owners. There is an entire menu dedicated to taking photos of your pets, tracking the areas where they are most often spotted (so you can request extra cleaning there), as well as the settings for how to clean around pet bowls and how often to empty the dust bin. The V50 has been a great addition to my home and I’ve been very impressed with its navigation, obstacle avoidance, and overall cleaning ability. I even tested the V50 with some FAKE pet waste and it effectively avoided it and alerted me. I have the V50 Ultra Complete, which again, came with many replacement accessories. When my two dogs come in with dirty paws, I can easily deploy the V50 to take care of it. If I could only buy one vacuum, it would be this one. Mova P50 Pro Ultra AND P50 Ultra - This is a workhorse robot vacuum for a great price. It also respects your privacy. First thing to know, the major difference between the two P50 robot vacuums is the front camera. On the P50 Pro Ultra there is a RBG camera and the ability to take pictures and live stream video as your vacuum navigates your home. With the P50 Ultra, they have removed the RBG camera and only have the structured light camera. In my experience, the navigation on the P50 Ultra works just fine with the built in Lidar and Structured light, and without the video camera. While the Pro Ultra comes with the CleanChop brush, you can easily buy one for the P50 Ultra. The Mova P50 is the most budget friendly vacuum that can leave the mop pads back at the base station and fits the bill for most homes that need a workhorse vacuum without some of the niche features of the V50 or Mobius 60. Mova Mobius 60 - For people with a mix of flooring types. Hardwood, tile, laminate, and carpet. I don’t own this beauty but I’ve been watching a lot of videos on it. The obvious feature that makes this stand out is the MopSwap system. The base station holds mop pads for 3 different floor types, ThermoHold for greasy kitchens, Plush for wooden floors, and HyperClean for everything else. It can change the mops pads depending on what it is cleaning or it can leave the mop pads at the base for a vacuum only run. The other feature I really like on the Mobius 60 is the little tab that descends while it is vacuuming. The “Dynamic Suction Retention System” tries to create a seal with the floor so you don’t lose all your 30,000 Pa of suction out of the back of the dual brush system. I really hope this feature filters down to the other Mova models soon. Mova S20 Ultra AND Mova E30 Pro Plus - I have used these vacuums for my carpeted basement. I first purchased the Mova S20 for use on my main floor but ended up using it mostly for vacuuming my carpeted basement. While vibrating mop pads work fine, the industry has moved to spinning mop pads and more recently to roller mops. I liked that the S20 had advanced brushes to pick up debris, but still had the ability to clean the mop pad at the base station. As I upgraded to more advanced (expensive) robot vacuums, I was very happy with the S20 in my basement. Later I had the opportunity to pick up the E30 Pro Plus which used the TroboWave dual brushes and can extend the side brush into corners. The more cost effective E30 can’t clean the mop pad at the base station, but this has not been a problem since I use it almost primarily on carpet. I love that Mova is addressing the need for a good carpet vacuum at a great price. In summary, I love my Mova Robot Vacuums! I am happy that Mova has worked so hard to create products for many different price points and many different cleaning needs. What vacuums is everyone thinking about picking up during Black Friday?

r/RobotVacuumsThose of you with small apartments, what robot do you use?

Based on your needs, Sados 10r is an overkill except you are planned to move into larger place in the next months. For Roborock, if you don't mind washing and changing the mop pad before every mopping session, you can go with Q7 M5/L5/TF with + designation for auto empty station. The Q10 S5+/X5+ gives more features above Q7 like obstacle avoidance sensor, vibrating mop pad and lifting mop pad unlike passive mop like in Q7. If you need a bit more automation, you can spend a little more on QV35A/QV35S (different only in suction power 8000Pa vs 10000Pa), and Qrevo S (7000Pa but come with warm air mop drying unlike ambient temperature drying in QV35). The QV35 has other names in some regions called Qrevo L. For Dreame, you can go with their D9 Max Gen 2 (no auto-empty dock), D10 Plus Gen 2 (with auto-empty dock), D20 Pro Plus (upgraded from D10 with more features like obstacle avoidance, extendable side brush, dual roller main brush great for anti tangle, and 13000Pa suction). There's also D20 Plus with almost similar specs to D20 Pro Plus but without the extendable side brush for corner cleaning and obstacle avoidance sensor. If you need a bit automation, there is D20 Ultra (offered in certain regions), L10s Ultra, L10s Ultra Gen 2, and so on. There's also Mova (Dreame's cheaper sub-brand) with S10 (cousin to D9), E30 Ultra for a bit more automation but cheap (cousin to D20 Ultra), S20 Ultra, or P10 Pro Ultra. You could also try to check Xiaomi's robots if available in your place. Their customer service is mostly decent and their robot is designed by Dreame using Dreame's older design and sold at cheaper and competitive price than Roborock, Dreame, and Mova.

Agreed with all of that. We have had a Dreame with the auto empty base station for a few years now. It replaced our original robovac (an LG Roboking) and it has been rock solid. It sets off by itself every morning and does its thing, we empty the base dustbag every 6-8 weeks or so. About once a month, it'll get stuck on a cord or under a bed and can be there for a day or so before we realise and have to rescue it. Every few months, I take the dust collector station out into the shed and blow it out with the air compressor and I've done the same to the robot a few times over its life. We did the Temu bags too and even got a brush and filter replacement kit for a handful of bucks. My only gripe with it is that it seems to always want to do the laundry when I'm ironing my shirt and I've nearly stepped on it more than once :-). One of the best appliance purchases we've made.

r/RobotVacuumsWhat brand should I buy or avoid if navigation and mapping is important?

I’m really satisfied with my Dreame navigation. It takes some time but I have the feeling it navigates better after some runs. I also tested the Narwal Flow and was really impressed. It drove around knowing where it was every single time. It was really confident when navigating and it never did the scanning where it currently is. My Dreame does this occasionally I think. But overall I don’t believe there’s much difference nowadays. Some work better than others, but amidst all modern models will do fine.

The Dreame robot mop system is our favorite new roommate! We have a new and an older iRobot Roomba vacuums and recently got this one for the main floor. We're very happy with it. It's available in many different price ranges.

Roborock, dreame, movs are all more or less under Xiaomi company wise. They often share the same parts. That's why the similarities. You can also often use the game replacement parts from X on Y too.

Mova is the budget version but other than that they're basically identical.. I don't know where you're getting your info lol. You can literally take motors/brushes/sensors/subassemblies from some versions of let's say dreame and install them in roborock and vice versa... There's very small differences between all those companies.

r/smarthomeConsidering a robovac, is there anyone out there that truly frees you from having to clean the mop yourself?

I've got a dreamtech which has self cleaning mops and it does pretty good. I've also got 2 kids and toys all over the floor and it barely gets stuck.
