I have three shorthair cats and live in an apartment that is mostly medium pile carpet. In my experience vacuums that have rollers with combination rubber and bristles do better at combing pet hair out of carpet fibers than ones with all rubber rollers. A lot of reviewers do pet hair tests by scattering small clumps or individual strands of hair on top of carpet and that's not the whole story in real life. The hairs work their way down into the carpet and it takes aggressive agitation and strong suction to get them out. If carpet performance is paramount, get the Dyson Visnav or if you don't mind used, the Roomba S9+. Older Roombas that bounce around randomly and have the dual rollers with a separate rubber and bristle roller are also great at carpet combing. I keep a 690 around just for that reason even though I also have had newer vac and mop combo robots.

i have just purchased the dyson 360 nav vis and found it works great. have a 2 bedroom flat but only use it in hte main room not bed rooms. took 40mins to map the unit. i have 1 small dog and one large long haired dog (samoyed) who leave hair around and the vac picks it up great, also the dust. i divide the cleaning into two areas and do at different times. one take 32 mins , the lounge room takes 15 mins. i like that i can empty the bin easily (like my dyson stick vac) so it keeps the smells down as the dust and dander gets emptied every day. it does not get lost and finds the dock before it runs out of power. i used it on auto and that seems to work great. i think i will use it every day. yeah no vac for me :-) well worth the money for my early xmas present. very happy with the unit and dyson. also works on hard floors and carpets and mats easily.

Auto suction mode is the best. No bags to keep buying. Who wants to keep their dirt? The side lasers are down low, so can sense cables and low objects. The brush roll has fluffy part for hard floors and bristles for carpet. We all know that bristle is best for carpet. That brushroll is as wide as a normal plug in vacuum, so more efficient at it routes. I haven't cleaned the filter in 6 months because the cyclone is sooo good at removing the dirt from the air. I run it twice a week in a half carpet half hard floor house of 66 sqm (710sqft). The bin is half full from 1 run. Sure it doesn't have obstacle avoidance but if you clear the floor of clutter then it doesn't matter. Oh and it hasn't bumped into anything. It is learning more each time it goes. It does the middle of the room first, then the edges.

With the recent updates, the Dyson 360 has not bumped into anything. Yes it doesn't have obstacle recognition but it does have side lasers that stop it from bumping. The navigation has also improved with the updates and now it can get from one end of my house to the other no issues. If you can find an old Electrolux pi92 that is triangle shape.

Dyson 360 viz nav is best for carpet pickup. Roomba S9+ is second, and provides the important convenience of auto-empty. Roomba J9+ is third and adds great object avoidance. Nothing else is in the ballpark for carpet cleaning.

I have 2 dyson Vis nav’s. One works great the other stops mid run for no apparent reason. You can wash the filter and reuse it. I will say my old Dyson 360 heurist is still the best robot vacuum I’ve ever owned for carpet cleaning. I watched a review on vacuum wars and he scored it lower than the high end roombas on deep cleaning but my experience has been drastically different. It pulls more dirt out of my carpet on low power than any vacuum I’ve had including: Dyson Vis nav, Roomba s9, Roomba J7 and J9+ combo, dreame L10S ultra, Neato D10. The list goes on and on. I’ve tested and used so many I’ve lost count. I should start a review site of my own.

If you want a few hours to relax or do something else instead of vacuum your house then, YES, the robot vacuum is so worth it. Do your research and try them out to see which fits your needs best. I was skeptical at first with the whole idea of robot vacuum but since then I would rank it among with the dishwasher as the best things once can get as time saver. My current robot vacuum is the Dyson 360 Vis Nav and hasn’t used the upright or handheld Dyson since the arrived of the 360 Vis Nav. Kids like to watch the robot doing the vacuum as well.

Got the Dyson 360 last month and so far loving it. We have carpet throughout the house and Dyson 360 does a great job of vacuum. Haven’t used the upright Dyson since the arrival of the 360 Vis Nav. I run it every other days. Read many negative feedbacks and stories on the Vis Nav but that seems to be related to the old firmware.

These robot combos don't actually deep clean your floors, they vacuum only large particles of dirt and mop in an inefficient way so they might spread dirt around (mopping pads and vibrating mop pad NOT the roller mop). For me it's best to have 2 separate robots, one for vacuuming only and the other for mopping only after the first one have finished. Here are the two robots that I would pick today for my house: - Dyson Vis Nav (for vacuuming only) - Mova Z5 Pro (for mopping only)(china only) Obviously this combo is pretty expensive

It’s a vacuum first and robot second. So it excels at vacuuming but its robot features are second rate when compared to roborock, dreame, and others. Its obstacle avoidance is subpar and lack of a lidar turret that holds it back for navigation. I love ours as it actually agitates the carpets/rugs and pulls embedded hair out too! It completes its Monday-Friday task around 90% of the time. But it lacks a spot clean feature that should be included for its price.

More like they are a salmon swimming against a current. Everyone else uses a lidar turret and it just works. Doesn’t matter it is the cheaper shark unit or a top of the line dreame lidar works. Dyson for some strange reason still wants to use vslam as the main navigation unit.

Maybe the Matic. It does t have a base station for auto empty but a large bag is stored inside the robot. Every bag comes with a built in hepa filter. We have the Dyson visnav and it’s great on hard floors but emptying the canister isn’t as contained like the Matic. Narwal Pro also has disposable bag with hepa filter.

Wrong. Vacuumwars testing is actually not very good : to short runtime that is biased to multipass tech. Also robots with a slower speed / more unique driving pattern have just less passes over the polluted area. In addition vw did not even use automode were the robot slows down while detecting large amounts of dirt that also improves cleaning performance. Discussed here, were even a iRobot S9 is no match if you give the robots just 14 cleaning passes even with an unpropper stuff like birdsand. [https://youtu.be/rahVXYL7e\_8](https://youtu.be/rahVXYL7e_8) If you use certified testdust that emulates household dust its also not even close [https://youtu.be/raBVxedCf\_M](https://youtu.be/raBVxedCf_M) Overall vws dyson vis nav review is not very good i can tell you it was done in a hurry or with less interest, They did not even recognize that the robots also is using lidar (the wall sensor is a laserbeam like all other sensors on this unit) in addition. You could just read this at the bottom of the unit where it stated it is a class 1 laser product (confirmed by dyson).

You do not need to have it running on max. Auto mode is doing most of the time a better job since it also slows down while detecting more dust (the slowdown does not happen with max mode). Once in a while let it run it max mode for a specific room. An EOL option is the AEG RX 9.2 that according to my testing (my yt channel is linked in my profile) also beats a Dyson Vis Nav (but only with carpets) but i need to retest it with my latest test procedure (i am using certified test dust). Here you have one test how they outperform a s9 in a birdsand scenario ( [https://youtu.be/rahVXYL7e\_8](https://youtu.be/rahVXYL7e_8) ) and some more testing of the Vis Nav [https://youtu.be/raBVxedCf\_M](https://youtu.be/raBVxedCf_M)

I love my roborock (purchased about 4 years ago) so much that I bought one for my parents 2 years ago. Over the recent new year, I thought I'd treat myself to the Dyson vis nav (since I love the several other Dyson products that I own) but returned it after less than a month. It could only go for about 13 minutes on its maximum charge, and it would get lost and stuck in a way that even my 8+ year old Roomba didn't. That is, the 8-yr old Roomba navigation can somehow avoid getting stuck more than the $1,000 Dyson? The roborock app lets you run the device while you're away from home; the Dyson app can do that too, but its main function ended up being constantly alerting me every few minutes that the robot needs help. It's stuck. It's out of power. It can't find its way back to the base (and yes I put the additional panel to help it find its way back). If the battery is running out, why can't it auto-return to base when it realizes that it's running low, instead of simply conking out and dying in the middle of the floor? And the thing is? I would have happily put up with all of these annoyances if it truly picked up a ton more dust than others... And yet, as an experiment, after running it TWICE in my kid's carpeted room at max power (it took forever since it needed to recharge over and over again), I then ran the aforementioned 8 year old Roomba over it... and son of a gun, the Roomba still picked up a notable, non-trivial amount of dust. I mean look I live in a dusty area (hence the need for a robot vacuum in the first place) so I realize that perfection, dust-free living is a fantasy... but I'm not going to lie, I had VERY high hopes for my fancy, fussy, Dyson... and to see a relatively geriatric Roomba still picking up a lot after running the Dyson.... was a huge bummer. Now on to your mopping question (the Dyson doesn't have a mop, but my roborock does), I would consider splurging for the newer models that have actual rotating mop heads... (not sure what they are off the top of my head) -- the roborock "mop" is more of a "damp pad that gets dragged along the floor". A separate robot mop that I've had in the past that wasn't' terrific but was better than the "damp mop dragging" was the ilife shinebot, but I guess I was the only person happy with it as it seems to have been discontinued.

The cheapest option would be buying something like the roborock Q5 Max+, Q8 Max+ as dual rubber brushes resist tangles rather well. There’s also the option of buying robots that can use dreame’s anti-tangle brush which also works well. Much more expensive options will be using conical antitangling brushes where airflow will untangle the brush like Dreame’s dual conical brushes, Narwal’s conical antitangle brush, Roborock’s DuoDivide, and Matic’s main brush. And there’s also robots like Dyson’s VisNav 360 and the UBPET robot which use a much bigger brush roller, about as big as a regular cordless vacuum’s, and will compress fur in the dustbin with cyclonic filtration. As for dustbin clogging, running the robot more often like twice a day works for smaller homes or setting the robot to autoempty more frequently are viable solutions that aren’t really robot dependent. Some robots also boast fur compression that works when it vacuums like Dyson’s robots with cyclonic filtration, Dreame’s fur compressing dustbin that uses airflow to compress fur by bringing the vacuum to the maximum power, and narwal’s fur compression on their bagged robots. These work to varying degrees of success.

The new dreame/mova robots with a dual antitangling brush system do well picking up fur from my long haired corgi on my coffee table carpet but my home is mainly hard floors. It’s a bit hard to find a good vacuum only robot with good obstacle avoidance. What about the roborock q8 max+ with the small mopping compartment removed? If you want a robot that cleans just as well as a cordless Dyson, the Dyson VisNav 360 is good with current owners saying the navigation has greatly improved compared to the first version of the firmware it shipped with. Price isn’t good at 699.

Dyson’s VisNav is the best robot vacuum cleaner in terms of just vacuuming. As a robot, it lags behind other robots. Generally, robot vacuum mop combos are worse at just vacuuming fine dust since it needs to accommodate the mopping bits and bobs. However it’ll still do great for fur. If you want a bagged robot vacuum mop combo, there’s the Matic at about 1000 by a US-based startup which only uses bags. There is currently an order delay of about 8 weeks due to tariffs as it’s assembled in California. The eufy E25/E28 currently seems to be the best suited for fur with anti-tangle main brushes that antitangle when autoemptying and has a really good mopping system (though it’s mopping pales in comparison to the Dreame Aqua 10 Pro Track, MOVA Z50 Ultra, and the Narwal Flow). The dustbin is a bit small at 300mL. You could also consider Dreame’s X50 ultra at 899-1000 since it has a rather sizeable dustbin (for a robot) at 395mL and has a fur compression feature which works in the dustbin when it vacuums and can clean its filter by blowing air through it from the base station when autoemptying.

If you want a vacuum only robot, I’d look at the AEG RX9-2-4ANM https://www.robocleaners.com/en/aeg-rx9-2-4anm.html (Not an affiliate link). This robot won't ao very well tor dealing with hair and fur on the brush roller but this is the best robot vacuum if you're only considering vacuuming performance (along with the Dyson VisNav which is considerably more expensive but the thicker roller means it’s less prone to tangles). If you want an autoempty station, I’d look at the roborock S8+, Roborock Q5/Q8 Max+, or the eufy E20. If you want a combo, I'd recommend the Dreame L10S Ultra Gen 2 (599), Xiaomi X20 Max (539), the Xiaomi X20 Pro (439), the Xiaomi X10+ (399) as these robots are better suited for larger homes (<60-100sqm) as it has an internal water tank so it won't need to constantly go back to the base station to clean the mops. The Xiaomi X20+ lacks an onboard water tank and must rewet the mops and can become dry when mopping before it resets it. This is generally less water efficient which is why I recommend the previous models. I’d recommend the Xiaomi X20+ for homes smaller than 50-60sqm. All of these robots are compatible with the dreame anti-tangle TriCut brush which works great with my long haired corgi’s fur and long hair in my home.

The Dyson VisNav will be the best for carpets with the iRobot roomba S9+ being a good choice if it doesn’t rip your carpet fibers out. Your available choices depend on your purchasing region. As such, I cannot recommend robots without knowing your purchasing region. Advertised suction power doesn’t matter. They’re often measured right at the inlet of the vacuum motor which often doesn’t translate to the same or similar value on the ground where suction is happening. Suction itself ≠ good cleaning ability as this depends on a lot more. Combo robots generally do worse than vacuum only robots as there’s only so much you can stuff into a tiny circle with a diameter of 35cm. There are trade offs. If the robot cannot avoid the mop contacting the carpet (usually done by removing it or putting on top of its head which is what roombas do), the mop will drag and also negatively affect carpet cleaning.

Dyson Vis Nav is probably best for carpets due to high suction power and brush roller. Also have big debris container. But drawbacks are short battery life and probably navigation, but it's getting fixed. Also no mop. And roombas have full container sensor so they return when full.

Given the same engineered vacuum pathway, increasing the suction should improve its vacuuming performance. I say "should" because you can reach a point where it doesn't matter anymore. For example, if your dustbin intake port is too small, it's likely to get clogged, and you're not going to be able to bump the suction up to overcome that problem on a battery-operated robot that also has to power its drive system, navigation sensors, etc. I'm sure you can find comparisons between older robots and newer robots where the older ones are better vacuums, but you can also find newer ones that rate well. The Dyson 360 Vis Nav is generally considered the best vacuuming robot on the market right now, and it's a relatively recent model. It's expensive, has almost no convenience features, and is a poor robot generally, but as a vacuum -- well, it lives up to the Dyson name. There's a theory going around that the new features in modern robots require compromises in the vacuum design. This is most clear with thing like the Roborock Saros Z70, where the robot arm steals tons of space from the other robot functions.

Sort of. There's also the Eufy L50 and L60 models, which are almost the same except for less suction and a lower price for the L50. Also look at the new Roomba 105 and 705, many Shark models, and the Dyson 360 Vis Nav. As always, check reviews; the Roombas in particular haven't reviewed well. What's more common is a vacuum-only robot with a stationary mop pad that's just stuck on the bottom. Technically, it's a combo with mopping, but the mop is just an add-on, and can be ignored. An example of this is the Roborock Q5 Pro and Pro+, which is the Q5 Max and Max+ with a mop tacked on and a few cosmetic changes. Sometimes, the Pro is even cheaper than the Max, which makes the Pro the smart buy. Just throw the mop plate in a drawer or in the trash. Be careful, though, that you're not sacrificing dustbin space for the water tank. The very similar Roborock Q7 M5 does this, while the Pro has the water tank as part of the mop plate. The most notable model that technically supports mopping, but only as an add-on, is the SwitchBot K10+. It comes with little disposable mopping cloths that attach to hooks on the back of the robot. Ignore the cloths, and you have a very good small robot that can get into lots of tight spaces and which has been reviewed to vacuum well.

Eufy e25/28 honestly have been great for me in a standard suburban house with hardwood floors and carpets, and little kids making a mess. Goes around single hotwheels, shoes and random books and stuffed animals. Vacuums reallllly well, honestly comparable to my Dyson 360 Vis Nav for vacuuming carpet. The free extra dock is great. I got this on ebay new for 560$ a few months ago, and am so happy with the robot. The only issue I have with it, is constant wifi disconnects requiring reboots. My scheduled cleans work half the time because the robot is disconnected from wifi. Using an eero router seems to be a weakness for it.

If you wait until black friday/holiday season, the visnav was discounted \~25% not that long ago. Just a heads up about dyson support, it's an absolute mess right now and not something you want to deal with, I ignored all the threads thinking it would be people over exaggerating things and.. nope, it's bad. Overall its a good vacuum, not the best robot. I'd consider getting one if vacuuming performance was my main concern.

A lot of the reviews about the Vis Nav were written shortly after its release — which is fair — but credit where it’s due: Dyson has been consistently pushing solid software updates. This review is based on my experience after owning one unit for 8–10 months and having a brand new one as of today. Let’s start with the cons: **– Support** Dyson's post-sales service is laughable. It's outsourced to people who often don’t speak your language fluently, and you’ll end up wondering if you’re talking to GPT. I’m confident you’re not, GPT or any LLM wouldn’t be that dumb. This is cleverbot-era level of dumbness. **– Maintenance** Maintenance is higher than on any other flagship at this price point. The lack of a self-emptying station is a big drawback, no matter how much you like the rest of the product. **– Edge cleaning** D-shape and wider body, struggles to get into tight spaces that standard round robots can, like under office chairs (e.g., Aeron). **– Battery usage** It's much improved compared to early firmware, but if your home is larger than \~100 sqm, it likely won’t finish the job in a single run (esp if your house is dirty, my house only triggers boost suction once or twice per run). **– Dock position dependent** Navigation performance heavily depends on dock placement. The robot needs clear space to detect and locate the dock, which is essentially just a visual target it learns. While the dock is compact, you’ll need at least 30cm of clearance around it. Without that, the robot may struggle to return home. Most navigation-related complaints likely originate from bad dock placement (even today), the robot *can* operate on a "corrupted" or incomplete map, but doing so causes: – Repeated cleaning of the same area – Room-specific clean commands failing – Spotty or incomplete coverage Worst part? It does all this silently, I bet many users have no idea their maps are flawed. Now, onto the pros: **– Cleaning** It’s arguably the best vacuum performance on the market. That said, if you already own a high-end robot, the jump from, lets say, 84% to 93% debris pickup isn't as noticeable in practice as it sounds on paper. **– Navigation (sort of?)** A bit of a controversial take, but hear me out. While coverage isn’t always as consistent as lidar-based models — which still win in that regard — Dyson’s visual navigation is genuinely impressive *for a camera-based robot*. Compared to other vision-based models (like iRobot), it’s ahead IMO. This is obviously house-dependent, but in mine, Dyson maps and cleans faster and more accurately than any Roomba I’ve owned. Comparing it to my Roborock: – Dyson is better at trying to reach edges or tighter areas where Roborock’s hesitate due to bumpers being too sensitive. – Roborock is more consistent in terms of coverage — I can count on it to clean the full floor without fail. – Dyson climbs small steps better than most models, even newer ones with extra assist wheels. Lets say , you have a thick rug near a wall, Dyson is less likely to get stuck than others. What I'm trying to say is that Dyson can reach parts of my house that the roborock can't but there are parts that my roborock reaches consistently that dyson doesn't. Roborocks I'm comparing against: S7 Saros 10R Would I recommend getting one? Probably not, unless you can find it on sale (700-850) and know that no matter how highly or low you think of Dyson post-sales support, it will only get worse the next time you have to interact with them. The only reason I got mine is because: \- I genuinely like it's design. \- I value cleaning performance over the other gotchas.

What's budget to you? Fancy machines go for $1500 nowadays. Would $500-600 be considered budget to you? If so, I'd consider the dyson vis nav, not perfect but very good vacuum. If you can't find it available for that price range, your best option is to play the waiting game and find a roborock/dreame appear on sale, you can easily find $800-900 robots for $400-500.

The roborock S7 has objectively the best performance while keeping some autonomy (dock station, etc). Newer units have more bells and whistles but are worse at vacuuming (better at mopping, generally). The s7 is fairly 'old' by now, but you can see the raw benchmarks of new vacuums to realize that... yes, new units are slightly more hands-free but are worse at cleaning. The Dyson Vis Nav is a good choice if: \- You find it on sale (799 - 899). \- Your house is relatively clean (not a lot of objects and all that). \- You value raw vacuuming performance above everything else (it's the only vacuum that has about the same performance of a handheld device). No dock station, but you can avoid emptying the dust container for several weeks since dust gets fairly compacted. Regarding puke, new units have cameras and advertise fancy AI, but whether the robot detects the mess is a gamble, you might be lucky once and have the robot miss the second time. The only vendor that used to have (still has, maybe?) some protection against this was irobot and iirc they only covered poop messes, so puke/pee was not covered by their warranty.

Understood, I was in a similar situation (in my case, it was a family member with OCD, vacuuming more than 7 times a day. Given the decorative objects, the vis nav is likely not a good fit. I'd say the roborock s7 is the best solution if your mom is constantly cleaning, especially if she owns a dyson with laser. New robot units will make the floor look clean to the naked eye, however, not a single one will clean traces of fine dust that lasers highlight (or that you'd notice walking bare foot). I have tested many of the new models and I keep going back to either the vis nav or the S7, these two are the only ones that have decent vacuuming performance. There is one tiny exception to this rule, which is that new units while worse at vacuuming, make up for the performance loss with the upgraded mopping, so depending on your floor, you might not notice the degraded vacuuming performance if you run both mopping and vacuuming at the same time. I made a thread about this a few months ago (complaining about the degradation in vacuuming performance), the tl;dr is that people on reddit don't care and just want something that works constantly. The sentiment on youtube seems to be slightly different with more people complaining about the numbers though. I have one. I got a good deal on it like you (not quite as good, you beat me by $100). It's the best carpet cleaning robot vacuum. The navigation is terrible and requires lots of light because of the 360 eye camera design. Mine forgets where rooms are fairly often (especially if cloudy or the main lights aren't on) and it does get stuck often including under things like the treadmill or low furniture. The firmware updates have improved it dramatically in the last four or five months. If you accept its faults, you will be fine. If you want something hassle free, this product is not it. The AI is not as advanced as other products in its price category. Obviously, it doesn't mop. Don't let it suck up any cat poop or you will be in trouble.

There are other robot vacuums that outperform the S8 series, like the Dyson 360 Nav. Nothing compares to it. However, I'm with you on the Saros line. The Z70 (which is based off the Saros 10R) doesn't get close to my Robo S8 MaxV Ultra on carpet. There seems to be some sacrifices made in order to achieve the thinner body style (and in my case, accommodate the arm).

In terms of raw vacuuming power, it wins hands down. However, it does still have navigation issues (while it has been substantially improved since release) because of the lack of lidar and is still frustrating to use (various reasons including the minimal functionality of the app itself).

I agree mostly with your review, but you’re underselling its performance because you happen to own an S7, which was a decent vacuum. I give Matic the Platinum award for industrial design. It's friendly, fun and blends in. Most people wouldn't even know it's a vacuum. The Gold goes to Narwal. They've really cared about this since the beginning and their competitors—Roborock Curv and DJI Romo—have copied them which I also really like. Silver goes to Eufy's S1 Pro. My family calls it the "Tron vacuum" because of its translucent plastics and illuminating ring. Bronze goes to the MOVA P and V line. I like the white version and I actually prefer the glossy because it's easier to wipe clean. I'd give the Dyson 360 Nav an honorable mention just because it looks beefy, like it's ready for business and comes in a cool color.

But the lack of an auto-empty station also contributes to the problem. I think if they could add a forward-facing camera and solid-state lidar like Roborock's Starsight, and add an auto-emptying station for Vis Nav, I think that would change its fate. The navigation is kind of clunky even though it gets better after each update. But the lack of a front camera makes this robot suck everything in its path like cables, toys, and pet surprises. This thing is also very pricey for a vacuum-only robot.

Well, in that case, Saros 10/10r would do a good job on most hard floors. About the multiple floors, almost all robots nowadays have multifloor features that could save the map of different floors. But, you can only have one dock, and you have to pick the robot up from one floor to clean another floor and carry it back to the floor where its dock is placed after it's done cleaning. Like I said before, if your home is mostly carpet like in an older house, an expensive Dyson Vis Nav would beat all models from Chinese brands because it is very optimized for carpet cleaning. Chinese brands that specifically state their carpet cleaning ability currently are Dreame/Mova with their Vormax TM system (in all their models) and Ecovacs with their BLAST TM system (in T50 Max Pro and X9 Pro). I haven't seen Roborock state their carpet cleaning focus other than increasing suction power. Both Dreame/Mova and Ecovacs have different approaches. The Vormax is more focused on the cleaning head design and strong suction, while Ecovacs focuses on redesigning its turbine blade and motor power. But, there is one feature in Dreame that other brands (except Narwhal) don't have! A fur/hair compression in a dust bin. It uses air pressure to compress fur or hair in the bin so it would be packed and the robot could vacuum without needing to empty the bin many times. They are also releasing new models that have 3 mopping solution cartridges, one of which is for pet odor solution. No other brand has this feature yet. Dreame's latest Aqua 10 Pro Track now supports 100°C hot mopping with track mop instead of roller mop, but this model is now only available for the Asia region. EU and NA are coming soon. You could try Dreame/Mova! Their product are more tailored for houses with carpet and furry companions than Roborock. In fact, their websites discussed a lot about this. Also, their AI object recognition and avoidance are slightly better than Roborock's. See Dreame's website about their pet hair solution: https://www.dreametech.com/pages/robot-vacuum-for-pet-hair

I have worked on an tested a Dyson 360. It must have been a very early model. It had so many navigation problems and kept getting stuck on things that the owner ended up returning it. Hopefully these problems have been resolved by now. However, it did do an impressive job of vacuuming. Because of other issues, I was never able to use my three room carpet test on it. It may very well be an excellent candidate to replace our aging S8s with. I appreciate the insight! Thank you!

What kind of dog do you have? We have a 62 lb Lab who seems to shed constantly. If I run the vacuum every day it’ll do the rug just fine. May leave 1-2 ropes. If I don’t run it every day, there will be more. The borders of the rug is where there are always ropes. I can run the robot twice and there will be ropes. I can run the Dyson then the robot and there will be ropes. I can pull the edges up, dyson under the rug, then Dyson the entire top of the rug and the robot runs—guess what I get along the edges? Ropes. Watching it carefully, the robot runs along the edge and there is a gap that it doesn’t have enough suction to pull a quarter ounce rope of dog hair. And when it passes by and the side brush pulls it under it’s a 50/50 chance for the robot to suck it up—on a hardwood floor or short nap rug. You can say what you want that Roomba has the best suction and if you look at Rtngs or vacuum wars they may in those particular test environments. However in real life my J8 is a fail in this use case. And if I run my 960 in the same area…no ropes. This is rug that’s about 3/8” and is light in weight. Roomba as the market leader should have a machine in their current lineup that has enough power to complete this mission. For a $500 machine to fail this is a design failure. I’d take it back to Costco but at a year, I’m not that type of person. I may buy a S9 but it’s not a great solution either as it’s no longer supported by Roomba, the J9 may or may not be suitable, the Dyson 360 would be worth a shot with its powerful vacuum but the navigation seems to still be a work in progress and for some reason, I’m hesitant to buy a roborock. I’d test them one by one but am not into tying up the capital. Roombas have been around for 23 years. For apologists to say they are still working the kinks out in the vacuum function, is a bit of a stretch at this point.
