"the Ecovacs either had a way larger battery or used less battery because I used to use it on my second floor (all carpet, except the two washrooms) and would do the 3 bedrooms with two passes and the rest only one pass and it still had battery left."

"my Ecovacs with lidar cruised through our open floorplan house and made the map in under 10 minutes ... the Ecovacs doesn't continuously override the map and add or delete rooms, move the base station to think it's *inside* the wall, or do any of the other idiocy that Roomba keeps doing"
"Since then, I have done 11 complete runs of my floor plan with no issues – literally no issues. It has completed each run perfectly, returned to the dock perfectly, and avoided all obstacles. ... To be fair, it really has been doing nearly perfectly since this initial problem. I would go so far as to say it’s doing better than the 10r which I also used at my house for several months. Though it’s close."
"i always used to move the vacuum with the station upstairs and simply start and it works without changing maps."

"it is REALLY nice having it be mostly* automated ... The vacuum dustbin auto empty and mop washing is so nice. ... It ’s set it and forget it"
"Starts when I leave home and when I return it docks and empties. ... I barely see it."
"I've got the Ecovacs Omni with the docking station and it's great. ... Docking station is a must in my opinion. Especially if you have a larger home. It's the difference between the whole house being vacuumed, and just the remainder of the capacity in the robot, which varies depending on when you emptied it last."

"so unreliable at mapping and navigation now"
"The robot had weird navigation quirks. For example, if there were two ways to get to a target cleaning zone, and it went one way that was blocked, it wouldn’t try and go around the other way. Instead it wouldn’t just dance around for ten minutes and then error out. Very frustrating. ... The old X1 would just spin around endlessly and then say it couldn’t get to its area."

We currently have an ecovacs omni x1 and it uses rotational. it gets most everything but the thing is so unreliable at mapping and navigation now and batteries are failing after about 2.5 years.
Actually, I can understand OP's point to an extent. We've had two Ecovacs Omni X1 and X2's that slowly fail out of use due to sensing, mapping challenges in a rather simple floorplan overtime. Eventually, X1's battery and then the robot itself died despite regular maintenance... and the Best Buy warranty plan replacement (an X2) had worse mapping and just as bad of navigation capabilities. But I've got a new Matic robovac that I've got a much higher level of confidence in (its vision characteristics, locomotive system and the transparency and responsiveness of its product group combined with consistent update additions!) running on a predominantly vacuum (nightly basis) schedule and then once a week vac+mop on a certain day.
I got one a few years ago the ecovacs deebot x1 omni because it came with the base station (very handy), and did the mopping. At the time it was one of the few that did both. I’m afraid I have no experience with others or more modern ones but my general findings: The mopping is really just a bit of a rinse, it’s not a deep clean, it just uses water, no detergent to help cleaning anything. It does not replace a proper clean of your floor. Useful for a daily hoover and mop of light dirt/marks. My one, which is old. If you want it to not mop you have to remove the mop heads from the bot. Hopefully modern ones have solved this as I basically never take them off so it’s only used in rooms with no carpet or rug as it’ll mop them up. I find the app and not decent, again I’ve got no experience of others. The base stations are big, need power etc, so make sure you’ve got a spot for it.
We got the Ecovacs X1 Omni (I think it’s a little outdated now) but it’s been great for us. In particular the features that we like are the hot mop and that it washes its mopping pads. The map and the scheduling tool in the app work really well and you can mark out no-go areas if you like and schedule cleaning of particular areas only. We have it set up to clean the hallway, kitchen, living areas & main bedroom suite once every morning & once in the late afternoon every day and it manages each scheduled job without having to recharge halfway through. If we want it to deep clean the full house inc 4 bedrooms and family bath it does need to recharge, but then it resumes from where it left off. Overall quite pleased with it.
I don’t agree on roller mops. They have small contact patches and bad edge cleaning. Also Ecovacs navigation has been poor consistently with maps getting corrupted over time. I’ve got a Dreame l40 ultra now and it has good edge cleaning, good mop pad cleaning and works more reliably than my two previous Ecovacs ever had. Downsides are that water tanks are too small so need to be filled too often in a larger house and the base gets very dirty and white plastic stains as it doesn’t manage to pull all the mop dirt into the dirty water tank. There were just too many bugs with Ecovacs kit and they abandon the new model within a month or two to focus on the next one. I’m sure Dreame are as bad but it doesn’t matter as much when the software actually works. My last Ecovacs was an x1 omni and added to the above problems is that the battery couldn’t clean the whole floor in one pass and recharge was so slow it would start again (only at 100%) in the evening which was mega annoying. Dreame also can’t do the whole floor but it charges much faster.
That makes complete sense, I have not come across your reviews nor read them. I'll be very honest. I just happen see this thread as I was scrolling by. I have an X1 Omni and well it's okay, the base tends to get clogged up if I use the mopping feature and I think the robot itself is starting to die. But I've had it now for 2 and 1/2 years and it's nice, but I don't think I'm going to buy another robot for a little while. I like what's out there, but I do agree with what you've commented on other people's posts that the consistency and quality difference between flagship bots is ridiculous.
I've got an Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni and it's great. Has two tanks in the station, one for clean and dirty water, but you can have it plumbed into the water and drain as well if you like. Had it for nearly 2 years and it does a great job running around and sucking stuff clean. It can only mop OR vacuum, I need to remove the mopping pads from the bottom (magnetic, easy to lift off) for it to go to vacuum only mode and go on the carpet. If it has the mopping pads on it will avoid the carpet rooms. The station empties the onboard dustbin and washes the mopping pads but the station does need to be cleaned once a month or so if it's mopping all the time. Mainly because find dirt builds up in the washing area and gets on stuff. The bit where it sucks the dirty water up has a physical grate but that can get blocked by lint and make it leak on the ground. Easily fixed but then we switched to once a month station cleaning. It gets long hair wrapped around the vacuum broom so that'll need to be cut off once a week or so (it comes with a little knife for this) and if you hear it making weird squeaks or loud vibrations chances are it sucked up something that got stuck and you need to manually clear it. So there is maintenance but a good cleaning once a month will do it. The vacuum itself is about 3kg so I'd you have lifting issues that might be a consideration too. It's heavier if it's mopping because it has an internal water tank. It says you're supposed to use Ecovacs hard floor cleaner but I've been putting in a couple of short squirts of normal floor cleaner that I already had in the cupboard (from a bunch of different brands) into the clean water tank and that does fine. I also recommend putting some Disinfectant into the bottom of the dirty water tank after you empty it. This helps cut down on weird stuff growing in the tank. I've had to sit down and pick fluff out of the Velcro mopping pad surface because the kids didn't put the actual microfibre pads on the mopping part once, that sucked but they still work fine. Replacement parts for it are easy to get and the app gives you points for using it that you can use for discounts against your replacement supplies. I did have to replace the vacuum pump in the base station (that sucks the dirty water away) but thankfully, since Ecovacs is Chinese I was able to easily find an exact replacement from a Chinese reseller on eBay. Fit exactly in place and immediately fixed the issue. There was a nice Pakistani bloke on YouTube that had a video showing how to open the base station up without breaking all of the tabs holding it together. That's a two person job though, use two people the first time. The pump broke at about 18 months. Overall I will buy another when this one does or I can't get parts for it anymore. It is nice coming home to cleaned floors that I mostly don't have to do.
I like Roborock, but to be fair, Ecovacs does work, at least not worse than Roborock for me. My Roborock S5 is slowly retiring. It used to clean the bedroom's floor, then went downstairs to the living room's first floor, and now it is on a partial retirement in the office room - smallest and easiest to clean :) Downstairs is Ecovacs T8 OZMO, which runs daily, with almost 3,000 runs in its lifetime. Not a single problem! Upstairs is Ecovacs X1 Omni, which runs 2-3 times a week, mopping. No complaints in the last 2 years, never gave me any trouble.
Ours (X1 Omni) is about to be passed on to the next unlucky sod who’ll have to cope with its demented behaviours that can only be solved temporarily with off-and-on-again. We’ll have a Roborock S8 Ultra instead.
I’ve owned top of the range Ecovacs and Roborock. I’d buy Roborock again whenever I need one. I’d never buy another Ecovacs.
It was an X1 Omni, so not cheap. It went wrong after just a few weeks and was sent back for repair which took too long to be considered good service. And all the way through the damn thing has exhibited awfully strange behaviours, like getting lost, going round in circles, or coming out for a clean then returning to base immediately. And the cleaning sink gets blocked and fills up ever so easily. In a direct comparison with a Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, there’s no contest. It’s Roborock every time.
Look for refurbished, second hand stuff. With a pair of gloves, wet tissues and some good ole elbow grease, you can save alot of money. Got an X1 Omni for about 130 USD second hand, nearly mint too. They are about 300 USD refurbished so no hassle in cleaning out the previous owner's gunk. You could prob get last year's flagships at your price point with this method quite easily, IMO the generation before all the novelty/first generation whacky features like the robo arms, threshold clearance stuff, roller mops (seems useful but still first gen), retractable Lidar (would love this on mine but still first gen). These are features which has not proven its utility with everyday users, as well as being likely not have its design flaws and kinks ironed out and is an additional mechanical/electrical motor point of failure.
I bought a second hand X1 Omni, for about 130 USD. So far, not much complaints. But I can't really comment on the experience vs a Roborock or Dreame machine, only other experience of note is a week or 2 with the Roborock s5, which is hardly comparable
