ECOVACS - X1 TURBO

I have nothing but good things to say about ecovacs. Ive had the x1 turbo for the last 3 years, I've moved thst one upstairs since it cant retract the mopping pads and we have alot of rugs down stairs now. I upgraded to the t50 pro omni for downstairs and very happy with it.

I must say, it is REALLY nice having it be mostly* automated with even just a Deebot X1 from FBMP for ~$200 from my perspective. The vacuum dustbin auto empty and mop washing is so nice. It’s set it and forget it unless the robot gets stuck or breaks which can happen within any price range

I recently upgraded to the X9 from the X1 when the X9 was $500 off. The X9 seems to do much better mopping my floors and in just watching it operate it just seems smarter. So after three years of my X1 getting stuck in the middle of a room somehow, and the cleaning sink getting clogged, the X9 seems like an amazing upgrade so far.

I just got the MOVA Z60 too and for the first time in 3 years my tiled floors are really clean. Such a big upgrade from my previous Ecovacs N30 and Ecovacs X1

A robovac is a nice thing. It does not keep everything 100% clean. But if you set it up to run daily, it definitely outperforms cleaning yourself every now and then. That being said, parts of the robot degrade after just a few hundred hours of use, so that isn't necessarily the frequency you want to use it for. I personally have an Ecovac Deebot X1 and its docking station, and while it used to forget where it was and everything, it was still very useful and still does a good job cleaning. Be aware that this thing likes to connect to their cloud tho.

My j5+ is really good with pet hair. No clogs or tangles. Long human hair does get stored inside the rollers, but will eventually wrap around the rollers My Ecovacs x1 and roborock s6 have a bristle brush that pet hair gets stuck in

Hey everybody, I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the Ecovacs X9 and Ecovacs' navigation and mapping in general. I've been using the X9 at my house for the past few weeks, and I've gained a bit more clarity on the nuances of their navigation system. --- ### A Bit of History: Ecovacs' Navigation Struggles Ecovacs has been around for a long time and, in my opinion, has always produced great robot vacuums when it comes to the fundamentals. However, **navigation has historically been a struggle for them.** For example, we haven't rated Ecovacs flagships highly at all for the past few years. The **X1 and X2 were significant failures** in our estimation, largely due to their navigation problems, leading to very low rankings in our system. As many of you probably know, the industry has been trying to move away from top-mounted LiDAR systems in favor of **internal LiDAR systems.** I presume this is to achieve a slimmer robot profile, among other reasons. Generally, I've been vocal about thinking this is a **downgrade.** Ecovacs was one of the pioneers with this internal LiDAR system, and it really wasn't very good with the X1 and X2. Nevertheless, it does seem to be the direction the industry is heading, with Roborock's flagships also mostly using internal LiDAR. I personally find it **less effective at mapping, generally less accurate, and it gives the appearance of a "dumber" robot vacuum** because it often needs to face the area it's trying to map or recognize. At best, they have about a 180° field of view, as opposed to the 360° field of view top-mounted LiDAR robots have enjoyed. --- ### The Current Lineup (T50, T80, X9, etc.) & Initial Impressions All of these new Ecovacs robots (T50, T80, X9, etc.) did amazing in our initial tests. For the first time in a long time, Ecovacs started to rank really high in our system, though there was still the lingering question of potential navigation issues. When testing the **T80**, which has a very similar system to the X9, we encountered errors where it would just stop for no reason or get stuck in places it absolutely shouldn't. I couldn't find a reason for this other than buggy navigation. With the **X9**, its navigation wasn't great in our initial tests, but it was "good enough." Because we ranked it number one in our system, I decided to take it home and test it myself to ensure none of the subtle idiosyncrasies show up only with long-term, real-world household use. --- ### My X9 Home Test: Initial Frustration & Breakthrough The first thing to note is that the **X9's mapping, in general, isn't as accurate as other robot vacuums, especially those with top-mounted LiDAR.** It doesn't automatically divide rooms correctly, and it doesn't initially tell you where major obstacles are to help you draw virtual barriers. So, you really need to know what you're doing to set up the initial map. But the far bigger problem for me was that the **first mapping run it did was inaccurate.** It was skewed to one side and caused tons of navigation failures. It couldn't find the dock and, generally, it was an incomplete dumpster fire in terms of navigating around the house. At this point, I started to really sweat. Here I'd been recommending this product as the best, and it was performing about as badly as a robot vacuum possibly could. To make matters worse, I reset the map, and it did very similar things. It also suggested a new map, which I agreed to, and that just made matters even worse. I was about to scrap the whole thing and post an emergency update telling everyone never to buy this product and apologizing for ever recommending it. However, I decided to do a **hard reset of the robot vacuum and re-map again.** This seems to have resolved the issue! Since then, I have done **11 complete runs of my floor plan with no issues – literally no issues.** It has completed each run perfectly, returned to the dock perfectly, and avoided all obstacles. --- ### Key Takeaways & Advice Don't get me wrong, I don't think anybody should have to go through this. It should work out of the box, and I stand by my view that **internal LiDAR is a massive mistake in the industry** and just makes robots more prone to error. But I will say that if you're having issues with the **X9 or any of the similar new lineup models (such as the T50, etc.), particularly with it not returning to its dock correctly** (which I think is a tell-tale sign of a bad map), **try doing a hard reset or at least turning the robot off and on and then re-mapping.** --- ### A Broader Point on Testing & User Experience There's a broader point here, of course, which I've heard others mention on this forum: **Vacuum Wars is a tester, and it's hard for us to find the idiosyncrasies in robot vacuums that only come from living with them for a long period of time.** As some of you know, we've tried to mitigate this in our ranking by continually updating how we calculate user review data from Amazon, particularly by adding the percentage of one-star reviews and a few other things. But in the end, we need to do better with this. Especially from now on, when we say something is our "favorite product," **I will be personally taking it home and living with it** so that I can do updates like this. If there is a genuine problem that can't be fixed, I will definitely retract that recommendation. I plan on doing another post here shortly about the fundamental problem of how we can get better at finding these idiosyncrasies, so look for that for more on this!

I also unfortunately own a T20 so i know what youre talking about. My T20 also refuses to mop unless it feels like it, and only sometimes will it wet the mop pads. I have 3 X1s which started out great, then they randomly started having communication issues with the base. 2 of them are now dead and refuse to run at all because of a communication error. I got them for a great deal but I'll never buy Ecovacs again, not even for $100.

I live by mine. Deebot with self emptying. Has full map and Lidar so barely gets caught. Starts when I leave home and when I return it docks and empties. I barely see it.

We got a Eufy vacuum only a few years ago and after having to sweep everyday due to having 2 dogs and a cat, it was this amazing luxury I couldn't even imagine. It ran really well for a long time. Then it did need to be replaced. We got the same model but this one had some issues rather soon. The remote stopped working which was a little important since i had a non mapping model. I still ran it but it would push dining room chairs around, get stuck on the base of our fan and cat scratcher. During Prime we splurged on a Ecovac Deebot that mops. Wow it is such an upgrade from what we 1st started with. We are really happy with its performance, my floors have never been so nicely maintained. Totally worth it.
