My first robot vacuum was the Roomba 780. And it’s still going strong ~15 years later… a few batteries later but it’s been a workhorse.

I have an older roomba(700 series something or other, 12 years old now I think). It also has a documented interface that you can connect to whatever you want(such as an esp32 board) and control it yourself It may not have fancy doodads but it’s built to last, easy to disassemble, has ready parts availability even this late, and doesn’t depend on any cloud bs. If this dies I’ll probably try to repair it first. Failing that I will try to buy a used one. Because like op said, if it depends on the cloud it’s not yours

Does this one go back and auto empty when full. I had I think the 7 and it didn’t. Said that iRobot had the patent for that and can’t do it. I would have never bought it if I had known since have 2 Shedding dogs.

Really? I feel like I’m missing something. Mine is having trouble emptying its bin after a few months and I’m getting annoyed. I ordered the roomba 707 to see how that one does compared to the roborock. For 1K I’m not impressed. 😭

I got the Roomba 707 which arrives today, originally I was going to get a roborock but the heated mop roller on the roomba convinced me otherwise

Yep have two kids and it’s great. There are some pain points. Like you gotta clean up all them toys to give it any chance of making it around but sure this is just tidying anyways. Sometimes you have to clean the charging pads on the base of the unit (this happens like every 2/3 weeks for me which drives me bonkers) - 750e iRobot 😭 I have one that mops too - I honestly wouldn’t say no to the mop and Hoover versions op. Floors look amazing when it’s done - just takes double the time of course. I wish I remembered to use it more. Typically when kids are out of house and one of us working from home it gets fired up You of course still need to vacuum almost as much as before but it’s you end up using the vacuum for when the kids open the Weetabix box carefully across the entire kitchen 😂

Not technically a roomba, but that didn’t stop us from naming it Goomba the Roomba! It’s been great, forces us to pick things up off the floor.

Lmao! Just got ours at the end of November, and named her Rosie, too.
