"My home is mostly hardwood and two area rugs. It does all 95 % better than I can any given day!!"
"j9 has near the best carpet cleaning performance ... you are not gonna be able to get as good carpet cleaning performance as others."
"I can confidently tell you that the Roomba j9 or 10 max is by far the best. ... They stand out because I never see dog hair on my carpets when they run in contrast to older Roomba series and other brands."

"Our J9+ Vacuum only device is amazing at keeping our floors and air clean. ... It runs daily, sometimes the master bedroom needs twice because all it takes is one Bernese wrestling match to leave hair everywhere 😂. ... My settings are 2 passes and high suction."

"No more dog hair tumbleweeds!"

"It’s the best at avoiding dog poop. ... They have the best obstacle avoidance for poop ... it really does do a phenomenal job at avoiding pet waste ... You can’t reccomend Roborock when their top of the line six months ago consistently runs into dog poop."
"It’s the best at avoiding dog poop. ... They have the best obstacle avoidance for poop(check a video I have on my account of the Roborock Q Revo Máster plowing through fake dog poop. Also for under 500 the obstacle avoidance won’t even really work with my experience. ... Their obstacle avoidance is decent but it really does do a phenomenal job at avoiding pet waste which is what matters most."
"I had a Roomba J9+, it has the 'obstacle detection' function and will avoid pet accidents. ... Mine never ran over any poop or puke."

"I upgraded to a roomba with the self emptying thing and I love it."
"Comes with a base station that it blows the content into. ... Super low maintenance that way."
"Now we have two good ones (iRobot) with the bin that they self empty into when they get full. ... Before we got the one with the bins, it would get full and need emptying before it finished a whole cycle. Now it goes and empties itself and then goes back to cleaning."

"if you take if off the dock yourself it loses the mop function unless you restart it literally 10 times"

"for the love of God please don get a roomba combo model. They don work… ever."

"I would recommend nobody buy a robot vacuum without Lidar at this point. ... I've used two different Roborock systems dating back 4-5 years and are still superior to iRobot's new stuff with only camera based detection and mapping systems. ... My J9+ literally gets lost in its own map and struggles to navigate at times. ... Sometimes it wanders around with an error in the app until it redocks and restarts cleaning."
"At least daily I have to go adjust it on its base so it will charge or move it 6” back home because it died on its way back."

"the brushes pull up some of the moisture from the mop and then dust will clump up along with pet hair and clog before getting into the bin."
"it starts just wadding up hair and leaving it in chunks"
"I feel that this model needs better anti-tangling tech to be more competitive"

Push for the 505. Although it does have lidar, the 405 does not have the obstacle avoidance tech of the J9. The 505 does.
r/roomba • Roomba replacement advice ->The J9 plus combo at $799 isn’t a bad deal in my opinion. It returns and refills the mop solution. You just have to change the mop pad out and throw it in the washing machine. The downside is it is still quite a bit more than the i5 and isn’t “perfect” when it comes to mopping. If you’re expecting it to do much more than a swiffer wet pad on your floors while vacuuming, you’ll be disappointed. It does have a smart scrub option that is decent, but that option isn’t realistic to use routinely over a large area because it dramatically increases the clean time and the need to recharge because of the battery being drained quicker.
r/roomba • Are any of these robot vacuums any good. ->Excellent! Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait for the 505 to come out and for comparisons between the 405 and 505. I’m also curious as to the downsides, if any, of not having an onboard water tank. I like that my j9 combo continuously wets the pad as it runs. With a fairly large floor space, I’m not sure constantly going back to the base to wet and wash the pads is reasonable.
r/roomba • New 405 just arrived! ->In that case, it’s likely personal preference. I’m partial to iRobot and have been loyal for the better half of a decade. I wouldn’t recommend a combo robot. If you’re wanting just daily or several days a week cleaning - go for the j8 enhanced, j9 or the s9. Roborock has a pretty good rep and Narwall (spelling?) has a good rep for combo robots. Just see what your cleaning needs are. If price isn’t an issue get the most powerful one. IMO, no such thing as too clean 🤣
r/RobotVacuums • Best Robot Vacuum to Buy at any price? ->So iRobot just released an entirely new line of robots. Their design is completely different, so not sure there’s a lot of data on the new ones. That said the Roomba 405 Combo is right on budget for you which is their latest technology. The j9+ combo is a solid model and the Combo 10 Max seems to still be their flagship as well.
r/roomba • Best model for hardwood floors / dog hair. ->I use mine on my carpet floors upstairs and infact liked it better on hardwoods as it got the corners better. Have a j9+ combo to mop the hardwood now
r/roomba • Roomba S9+, how does it hold up today? ->So I love mine saves so Much time and effort. I just make sure kids mess is in 1 room or picked up at night into bins and then just run it. Technically the Roomba j9+ I have avoids items in the ground but still I prefer to clean up the floor before it goes off to vacuum and mop. I do still need to mop weekly or so for a good cleanup but definitely vacuum is done.
r/toddlers • Moms of toddlers, what do you think of robot vacuums? ->I have a golden and a lab and the roomba J9 combo is good but my god it's fucking buggy and not that smart. It regularly needs rebooting and rescuing from getting stuck. It also needs a good clean frequently. The dirt it picks up gets wet from mopping and forms mud/silt/grime mixture inside the dust compartment. Had a vacuum only euffy before and tbh having had both, if I was buying again I'd get a vacuum only robo and save the money
r/goldenretrievers • Roomba vs Goldens? ->I've got the new Roomba J9 mop and vacuum with self emptying and refilling. It's great on tiles and wood floor. We have two dogs and a toddler, it goes round fairly and keeps clean. It's quite good at learning the floor plan and identifying rugs and carpets so not to mop them. My only negative comment about it is the app can be a bit buggy/temperamental
r/HENRYUKLifestyle • It's 2025 and it's time...give me your best Robot vac recs! ->I like the Roomba j9+ Combo for its design. The base looks aesthetic. The hardware is well designed. The app is good and easy to use. I run it daily for vacuuming and mopping and it keeps everything nice and clean and dog hair free. I would suggest considering two for upstairs and downstairs because the whole point is that you can automate it, to make your life easier.
r/RobotVacuums • Alright. What robot vacuum should I buy? ->I agree with others above. Suction power really doesn’t make that much difference. Airflow and roller design make far more difference. I have a Roomba combo j9+ and it is great at vacuum with lower advertised suction but the dual roller really does clean the carpet effectively. I have a Narwal Flow that is fantastic for mopping but not quite as good for vacuuming (though for my house it’s mainly tiles downstairs so that’s not so important) These vacuums are all about compromises I believe. One may be good at one but not necessarily good at the other. Still looking for one to do it all.
r/RobotVacuums • Are robot vacuum companies distracting us from what really matters - suction power? ->We have a long-haired white cat with extra toes who sheds a lot and tracks litter. Our J9+ Combo does a great job of cleaning up after him.
r/roomba • Robot vaccume suggestions ->After experiencing both a Xiaomi robot (X20+) and now an iRobot Combo J9+, I feel compelled to share this review. I had a Xiaomi X20+ for three days. While it worked, it was amazing. The LIDAR makes a HUGE difference in navigation—in every sense. With LIDAR, the robot is more delicate when touching objects, gives you a much clearer view of where it is and what it’s doing, and offers several “cool” features (that, in the end, don’t make that much of a difference). The mop washing and drying feature is incredible and very useful. However, it takes an eternity to dry. Models with hot air and water should be better. Regarding pets: the robot failed to detect pet poop on a white floor in a clear space—and spread it all over. That alone makes it unreliable for pet owners. However, after three days, it simply stopped working and wouldn’t turn on again. What started as a dream turned into a nightmare. Fortunately, I was able to return it and get my money back. After that, I realized I needed to make a logical decision, not one based on my excitement about the latest and most advanced technologies. That led me to buy the iRobot Combo J9+. Yes, aside from better pet poop detection (which seems more effective on the iRobot), the iRobot is, in many ways, “dumber.” Mapping takes longer, its navigation can leave you wondering if it will actually complete the job, and you may encounter some bugs. But it does what we need: vacuum and mop. Given the technology it comes with—and considering its limitations—it performs its tasks well. It goes where it should, returns to the dock, and **accepts chemical cleaning products in the water tank**, which I found absurd that Xiaomi doesn’t allow. So why did I choose to pay more for an iRobot instead of buying another brand (like Xiaomi or Roborock) with more technology at half the price? The short answer: the limitations in my country. Here in Brazil, everything is VERY expensive. The iRobot J9+ costs the equivalent of 7–8 times the minimum wage. In the U.S., it would cost around half a minimum wage. Yes, it’s shocking—**every decent robot vacuum is extremely expensive here**. That means, for the price of one iRobot, I could buy multiple other models with more features. However, apart from iRobot, neither Xiaomi nor Roborock (let alone other brands) have a solid legal presence in Brazil. So forget about warranties or refunds after 7 days—**the risk is just too high**. Xiaomi’s support basically doesn’t exist, and their documentation is terrible. You can’t even reinstall or update the firmware properly. In summary, I chose iRobot (even though it’s more expensive and has fewer features) because I **don’t want to risk losing 7-8 times the minimum wage** on a robot that could break after just a few days. I was lucky that it happened within three days—it could just as easily have been 30 days or a year later. Stop treating robot vacuums like gaming computers or fun gadgets. Their job is to vacuum and mop. They handle dirt and water, and the more tech you add (especially tech that often doesn’t make a big difference), the higher the chance something will break. So, consider these factors before choosing a robot vacuum, in order of importance: * Does the brand have legal representation in your country? * Will you be able to get another robot or support after the marketplace’s safety window expires? * Or, if you’re rich and can buy a new vacuum every six months, then go ahead and choose the one that entertains you the most. At the end of the day, they all vacuum and mop—some with more issues, some with fewer, requiring more or less user intervention. **Choose the kind of headache you’re willing to deal with.** Currently, there is no robot vacuum brand or model that delivers cutting-edge technology, reliability, and proper professional support all in one. Good luck.

r/RobotVacuums • iRobot vs Others: How to Choose Your Robot Vacuum? ->Didnt know that. I thought it was the same as with the J9+ Combo I have. Why would they not allow J9 to mop only?
