I have a roomba, and love it. It’s pricey, but their customer service is great. I had a robot issue, and they went ahead and replaced the whole device (charging station and robot), rather than just replacing the part. The parts are also very easy to replace when they wear out, and inexpensive to purchase. I would buy another when this dies. Edit: I live in a 1 bedroom with a complex layout, with a medium shedding small breed dog. It does a decent job with hair and fur.

Not better than a stick vac or a real vacuum. But, we have mostly hardwood floors on our main level and a long haired golden retriever. The maintenance on the hair mess that the vac does is amazing. Having to vacuum all that space by hand every other day would be quite a choir. Roomba J7+

Second the Roomba J7+ (64 dB max noise is pretty quiet). Also check out the Narwal Z Ultra (53 dB) and X Ultra (58 dB) here........ I read the same Wirecutter article and got a vacuum only (refurbished rooms j7+). It works great but I regretted not getting a mop combo for our main floor. So I got a dream L10s Ultra (also a refurbished eBay buy) and moved the rooms upstairs. I love it so far. Hoping the dreame holds up - but I think mopping has gotten far better than to used to be and think of it as “maintenance” not deep clean then it’s amazing.

I have a Roborock Q Revo in our 2 adult household and love it. I sweep out the corners occasionally since a round vacuum obviously can’t get into a 90 degree corner, but I don’t have to vacuum or mop anymore unless I just want to. My MIL also bought the same model, and they have three dogs in their home. One of whole sheds A LOT. He’s a corgi/lab mix and blows coat like a dandelion. It keeps up with all their hair, just needs more frequent dust bag replacements. It is so worth buying the right kind and getting a quality robot vacuum/mop. The cheap ones simply aren’t worth it. My father has a roomba (to excuse himself from ever actually cleaning) and it is awful. It will run over the same piece of hair multiple times without picking it up and then straight up avoid a certain dirty spot on the floor repeatedly. It runs on a random track of going until it bumps into something and then goes a different direction. He has also had problems with the batteries crapping out constantly and needing replaced because the capacity deteriorates so badly. The Roborock goes in a pattern; first does a perimeter sweep then goes in a grid pattern of vertical then horizontal rows. The Roborock takes floor plans of your house so you can select individual rooms for cleaning. There is a spot cleaning feature as well where you can drop a box to enclose a specific area that needs cleaned. You can set up scheduled for it to keep your house maintained and ignore it beyond weekly maintenance. I dump dirty water, fill the clean water, and wash mop heads once a week. I love it and would never buy anything else. Especially a Roomba.

It has object avoidance but I would not say it's that good. If you have kids or pets, you need to check your house before sending it out. It will get stuck on something. And it's slow af. J7+ self empty is loud af and won't even empty everything from it's bin. If I would have known, I would have bought roborock. Something like 4-5 years with J7+ now and it has been disappointing. Suction power is non-existent and it WONT pick up pet hair from mats.

I have the Roomba j7+ (I think) -- supposed to be self-emptying. Don't get a refurbished one like I did; it has a lot of stupid problems. But a non-refurbished, properly working one should help a lot. (I've had a few others before; this one has been the best of the lot even with the stupid problems.)

I loved our Roomba until we had kids. It’s loud. We have a one story house so it will wake you up if you try to run it at night, and my kids are scared of it. I only use it once or twice a week now when we are out of the house.

If all you care about is the vacuuming performance, the dyson robot vacuum is the best performer (especially against fine dust and deep carpets), If you want other commodities/features, then the roborock S7 is good. The s8 and newer units have more features but decreased vacuuming performance. I wouldn't get a roomba unless you value support/warranty the most, irobot vacuums aren't the best anymore but they do support their machines for a long time and support is better than what you will get with roborock/dreame/dyson. Regardless of what you choose, modern robot vacuums will do a good job.

I’m replacing my 2022 Roomba j7 plus because the connections will not recharge the machine and that’s not fixable. I have warranty through Best Buy so I’m limited on what I can purchase (replacement gift card)I would like to get one with mopping, however that’s not my main concern. My main concern is that I have LVP floors with a large high pile rug in the living room that takes up 90% of that space the J7 had issues bumping into the edges and avoiding it 90% of the time. Any suggestions on something relatively new or about to come out? I’ve been looking at Eufy 10 pro Omni the new Ecovac, T5 Omni, and even the Roborock Qrevo pro right now these all have quite a few discounts so Max spending would be under $700 but I am willing to go up to just over $800

If you value efficiency and not getting stuck probably get the eufy l60 in my opinion. If you value not running into poop, customer support, and getting the most hair, go with a roomba j7+ or j9+. Just know Roomba will get stuck a fair amount more, but definitely won’t run into dog poop.

Just gonna tell you, the mops work very very well. Not sure where you heard they don’t, but if you wanna if you insist on going vacuum only, I recommend iRobot. They are the best at vacuuming and have great customer support. I’d say j5, j7, j9, will all be great.

From a person who has lots of experience with Roomba and other brands: Pros: • The best poop obstacle avoidance • One of the best at carpet cleaning • Exceptional at hard floor cleaning, but most are • Good battery life • Phenomenal brand. If anything breaks, they’ll send a replacement unit in under 20 min of calling. Cons: • Navigation is slower compared to other brands • Excluding its poop avoidance, obstacle avoidance can sub-par in difficult-to-navigate places • Loud vacuuming at maximum power, but it is tolerable at lower power • Loud self-empty My opinion: Go with iRobot. The j7+ would also work well, but my Roborock q revo master(which has their top-of-the-line obstacle avoidance system) has run into dog poop twice. My Roombas never have. They also clean the carpets better than the roborocks. Once you start mopping, I will recommend Roborock and other bands. Robot vacuums can mop well…, but Roomba just can’t.

YES. It is most definitely that bad. It’s bad on hard floors but god forbid you run it on a carpet. I have a video of it just plowing through fake dog poop on carpets. Edit: I have owned both the roomba j series and dreame l series, and both are so so much better.

r/Roborock • Is the AI and obstacle avoidance really that bad? ->

No_Environment1562 • 6 months ago

I kind of disagree with that but I see where your coming from. 1 yes it’s louder then most but I’d say super loud is a bit much 2 from my experience with Roborock(Q Revo Master), dreame (L40 and L20) and iRobot(I7+, j7+ and j9+), the j7+ does on par or better then dreame and roborock. 3 yeah it’s less thorough and efficient but not by a massive amount. 4 you just highlighted their flaws and ignored their: superior support team, superior obstacle avoidance(compared to Roborock not dreame), superior per waste avoidance compared to any brand.

They were joking cause J6 and Jan 6 sound the same. That being said, the J6 is slightly different than the J7 in that they’ve software locked object awareness to the J7, J8 (official Costco model), J9. The J6 is their unspoken “budget” flagship to the J7. In the Same way the J5+ is the “budget” model of the J9+ super similar but missing some key conveniences. I would actually recommend the J7 over the J6 if it’s possible for a good price but idk if I’d spend an extra 400-500 on it just for the object detection over other options.

Just don't want to lug one up and down LOL. It gets annoying since I run it everyday. The Curv is fine on carpets but I just don't trust the mop pad not dripping onto the carpet and there's more space downstairs anyways so I might as well take advantage of its mopping ability. The Roomba does excellent on carpets though. I've been using Roomba's since the Roomba 416 was released and that was a longgggg time ago. iRobot just isn't innovative anymore.

Do you really want to deal with mop water? When floors need mopping just get out a traditional mop and roller bucket. You don’t need a 2000 dollar vacuum. Most of the hardware is the same. Software quality is not. A roomba j7 will navigate around all chairs and do what you need a robot vacuum to do.

I had a roomba j7 for a while , it was great. They have (had?) a try before you buy option for 30 days and I loved it for those 30 days. I only gave it back because at the time I assumed they would come out with a new model with more suction since we have a lot of deep carpets , but that never materialised. I did have to keep my floors more clear than before but that takes less time than vacuuming would have and the end result is a house that is cleaner and neater. There was a lot of kickback from the family that such a thing was useless and we can just vacuum ourselves (which is a dumb argument since dishwashers and washing machines and loads of other tools for making life easier exist and are normalised) but after a month with it the family also loved it.

I only had to buy a new one after 6 years because it went through dog vomit under my bed, and I stupidly sprayed it with water in an attempt to clean and fried the mother board. But my new one is on year 2 or 3 now and it's great! I think it's the J7 model?

I bought a Roomba J7 just recently when it was half-price on Amazon. I have hair that covers my shoulderblades and I’ve lived in my apt for two years without vacuuming. I was very ashamed and knew I needed to tackle this problem. The side brush picked up a HUGE hairball while mapping my apartment—I cut that off. On the initial vacuum, the brushes picked up a bunch more hair—I pulled them out and got all that off. Each task was very easy and took less than 5 min, and the Roomba never stopped running due to the hair. Now I have the Roomba on a 3x/week schedule and hair isn’t a problem at all. I STRONGLY recommend the Roomba j7.

Avoid that, it's a generic (ODM) model based on the same platform as the Xiaomi E10/12, which if I remember correctly is from 3irobotix or SilverStar. Look up some reviews of those Xiaomi models on Amazon and you'll understand how much of a poor product it is. Get a "real" Roomba, they're much better than that. Some examples are the i3/i5, or if you need the mop, the Combo i5 or Combo j5. If you can spend a bit more, the j7 is another good one.

The roomba j7 has really good object avoidance. At the end of every run it gives you pictures of what it had to avoid and also gives you the option to have it clean those spots again once the obstacles are gone or you can mark them as a permanent obstacle and it will avoid permanently and stop asking about it.

If you want it to avoid clutter, it needs to have a camera. I have Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra and it avoids clutter very well. I leave a lot of boxes, bags, plants, thing I need to put away that I temporarily place not far away from its base and it does a lot better job at avoiding it than Roomba J7 I had. When Roombas generally spot an obstacle, they tend to do a big circle around the obstacle and they can get lost because of it.

We have a dyson stick for actual vacuuming and a roomba j7 we run every day for maintenance. You can’t do just a roomba. The Dyson is by far the better option. No cord means I can just run it for 5-10 min a day and one level is completely clean. If I had to pick one I’d do just the dyson but man it’s nice to open an app and let it vacuum while I do everything else. With long hair you have to clean the brushes a lot so it’s not entirely hands off but it’ll go around a decent amount before they’re useless.

If you don't care about mopping, then I would suggest considering a roomba j series. The dual rollers, bin design (reduces filter clogging), dirt detection, and bin sensor for auto empty make it well suited for pet hair. Hair will still accumulate inside of the rubber rollers and require maintenance. VacuumWars recently found that the similar combo 10 max picked up 100% of 2.5 inch hair from carpet, which was much better than many modern flagship models from competitors. I have 3 robovacs (Ecovacs x1 omni, Roomba j5+, Roborock S6 pure) and rate the j5+ highly. I have 270 hours on it so far with no issues

The comment about robot vacuums only being for small places is probably based on the old random pattern robots. Most robots now map and do well in large houses. It sounds like most mapping robots would work for you, since you don't want mopping, have hardfloors, and no pets. So anything with lidar (prefered) or vslam navigation. Obstacle avoidance might be a useful feature for cords, shoes, toys etc. left on the ground. It might be worth looking into a Eufy L60, iRobot Roomba j series, Roborock Q series, or shark. I'm biased because I have three robot vacs (Roborock S6, Ecovacs x1 omni, and iRobot Roomba j5+ combo) and my roomba j5+ is the only one that is reliable and working at the moment

The combo 10 max (almost the same obstacle avoidance as all other modern/j-series iRobot models) initially scored in vacuum war's top ten for obstacle avoidance. It's also the only brand that guarantees avoidance of pet poo. Battery is debatable, but it's also a non-issue for most because of charge and resume

The extra suction can't hurt, but these bots really rely heavily on mechanical agitation and extraction. Unfortunately manufacturers use suction for marketing, which tricks people into thinking that is what determines cleaning performance. Now you get models from other manufacturers with really high suction figures like 12,000 pascals, yet struggle to pick up lint balls from carpet. Often because the roller doesn't even contact the carpet enough

All have pretty poor customer service. I have three bots (Ecovacs, Roborock, and iRobot) and recommend the roomba i or j series for vacuum only (especially if you have carpet). It's designed for longevity rather than features. My j5+ has been reliable and kept up with 2 shedding dogs (long hair border collie cross) and two people

It's hard for people to recommend since few people would test their vacuums with this much fur. Picking up hair from hard floors is easy for any robot vacuums, even on low suction settings. I think the challenge will be keeping the bin from filling or the dock from clogging. iRobot roomba i+ and j+ series are suited for this as they have sensors that detect debris building up in the vacuum path and send the bot to the dock to auto-empty and resume. Whatever you get, you will likely need to run regularly and maybe one room at a time.

A number of vacuums can avoid cables pretty well (although none are no foolproof): iRobot J series, Roborock models with camera-based object recognition (except the Q Revo MaxV for whatever reason), Eufy S1, Dreame models with camera-based object recognition all come to mind. Your bigger problem will be that nothing on the market reliably avoids horizontal chair legs that are located lower than a typical house threshold. You will need to add extension to them so that the vacuum’s bumper gets engaged on contact.

More than a vacuum without a dirty water tank, but really not that much. I can’t say I feel a noticeable difference in the time I spend on it compared to the Q Revo and J7 I had before. There are more parts, but the vacuum is designed quite well, so all remove/replace operations are easy. The house is mopped 3x a week and vacuumed 5x/week. This is what I do every weekend: - Empty and rinse the dock dirty water tank, fill the clean water tank, put both back. - Remove the vacuum from the dock. Take out and rinse the mop washing tray. - Take off the top cover. Take out dust bin, bang out the filter, rinse both and leave out to dry. - Take out the dirty water tank, remove the main filter and three small filter plugs, rinse all out and leave out to dry. Flip the vacuum upside down. - Take out the vacuum brush, remove hair from both ends, rinse and leave out to dry - Slide off the mop roller, rinse and leave out to dry - Remove side brushes, remove hair tangles, put back on - After a few hours of drying time, reassemble everything. I also plan to take out and clean the caster wheel once every couple of months, but haven’t gotten to that point yet. So far, these operations take me maybe 15 minutes once a week, probably less.

Avoid Roomba j7/j7+. Just replaced a Roomba 980 with it, and new one is useless by comparison. Sure it knows its way around but what is bad is it picks up less than 25% of what the 980 got.

I have a J7 (non-mop) and love it. But I say you kind of need to “want” to love it, because it takes quite a while to vacuum the whole place, and every so often it gets stuck on something. IMO the benefit of not vacuuming myself is worth coming home to a stuck vacuum every so often, but if you have a messy floor that could be a bigger problem (I keep mine very tidy) I will say this - get one with a dumpster! The little bin in the robot itself is tiny and constantly needs emptying, but the dumpsters with bags are good for much longer, and also cleaner to empty. But another option, hire a house keeper. Problems solved, if you can afford it.

I recently purchased a QRevo Master and Pro during Black Friday. I replaced a Roomba J7+. I’m fairly happy with the mopping functionality but the obstacle avoidance is…a fraction as good. I assumed with all the tech and AI it would be better or at most marginally worse. But it’s really night and day. The J7 was excellent at avoiding even the smallest out of place objects, a sock, a cord, etc. I know commenters will say to just keep things off the floor. But I bought these things to vacuum when I’m out of the house. The was great with the j7. Everything just feels clean when you get back. These Roborocks on the other hand will just pick up any loose object and drag it around for 30 minutes. A sock, a shirt, a small box. Also if you happen to be walking around while it’s running the vacuums will bump into your feet repeatedly. I’ve seen some discussion of this, but reviewers like vacuum wars still give these a 4.7 for obstacle avoidance. I would say it’s like a 3 at best. I’ve also seen some discussion of it being better on previous firmware versions. I’m curious if that’s true. I’m hoping I can be optimistic a software update could improve this. It seems like the hardware should be more than capable, but it’s just not stacking up right now

If you don’t need the mopping I would 100% go with the j7. I got it refurbished for $264. I don’t notice much difference in vacuuming ability. The j7 successfully avoided all the things I listed above. Anything medium sized and most cords it managed to avoid.

For my Roomba, the brushes wear out over time and don't self clean each other as well. itll get bad enough that it starts wrapping around a lot. Then it usually cuts huge holes in the brushes. Not the best design on the roomba j7+ It's about every 2-3 months I need new ones

We have the Roomba j7+ We did a fair amount of research before getting it and watched YT videos comparing all the different makes and models and this was highly rated for pet hair. It’s pretty good - but like others have said you do have to spend time cleaning the hair out of the wheels which is an annoying and dirty job and also I find that I don’t run it very often because the sound makes my dog bark so I have to only run it when the dog isn’t in the house, which isn’t that often (of course, I could try to get the dog used to it, but I haven’t taken the time to do that) As an alternative to a robot we also recently bought the Shark Auto Detect and we are loving it! It’s cordless and really lightweight. It’s so easy to maneuver picks up tons of hair and has really good rollers that don’t get stuck on hair. I actually was looking forward to vacuuming today, which is crazy. I never thought I would say that!

I have had several Roomba vacuums, and currently have a J7+ on main floor and an i4 in the basement. They really aren't great. Our J7 has been replaced by Roomba 2-3 times, which is great from a customer service aspect, but not great because it has needed to be replaced multiple times. In addition to full replacements, we have already had to change the battery after a little over a year. The running times to sweep our main floor have gone from a few hours to now over 6 hours. It gets lost randomly, and then finds new areas and maps them, that don't actually exist. All roombas have a pretty big design flaw, the sweeping brush pushes dirt across one of the charging leads. It will randomly stop charging, and when you look, one of the charging leads will be covered in grime and the other will be pristine. The self-empting feature is great, rarely had an issue with that. I would suggest that any robot vacuum you get be able to empty itself. The obstacle avoidance isn't great, it will often try to eat things that shouldn't. I would say approximately twice a week the vacuum is not able to finish its job and return to its base properly. It's nice to not have to worry about cleaning up all the time, especially with kids and dogs, but it is a lot of Maintenance to keep it running. We also have a brava jet mop, that has entirely stopped working. If you take it off the base it will run, but it's not able to leave its own base, which makes it a real pain. Personally, I will not be buying another Roomba.

It is difficult to find what you need at your price point. You need a mop, good object avoidance and hair pickup due to the pets. So you kind of have to sacrifice in one area. Increase the price or reduce a feature or two. You could do without the object avoidance if you don't run a schedule and check the floors for objects every time you run the robot. Shark matrix is an old version. If you buy a Shark brand, it's mainly for being bagless. Bags are a way for these companies to hide the price of the robot, since you have to keep buying bags at $5 each. I would recommend RV2820YE if you go for shark brand due to it being the cheapest option with no bags, good object avoidance and a mop but it's a little more than what you wanted to spend. I've had a shark for a few years and it works well but I do have to clear the floors for it before running. I'm getting a AV2820S for $400 because it has better object avoidance but doesn't have the complication of a mop, the odor cartridges or the added cost of bags. You probably need a mop though. Irobot J7+ doesn't have a mop so it would leave behind mud from dogs but it has the best object detection, so it won't hit poop. That won't matter if you check your floors before running it. The Euphy L60 doesn't have a mop and the version that does, doesn't work very well unless you get the $800 version. Roborock Qrevo S is on sale now for $460 on Amazon and that's what I would get if I were you. It has good reviews, dual spinning mops, self empty base and object avoidance (though not the best). I don't like that it uses bags that run up the cost over time but maybe the cheaper off brand bags work okay? https://www.amazon.com/roborock-Qrevo-Self-Drying-Self-Emptying-Refilling/dp/B0CTZXJTGJ?tag=vwads3-20&th=1

Not everyone dislikes Roomba. I keep trying, but can't find anything that can clean better. Roomba J9+ has been fantastic and has P.O.O.P. guarantee. (I assume you had an S9 that ran through poop.) It's way over your budget, though. You can get a J7+ for a little less, but for that much fur I think the 2x power of the J9 is worth it in your case. I really can't think of anything cheaper that will serve you well. I think I would be inclined to carry a single J9 to each floor each day over getting two cheaper models.

Unpopular opinion: iRobot. They’re easy to repair and there’s an abundance of filters and spare parts. The i5+ is a mid level entry robot. You can likely find it around $300 or just stay on the lookout for a sale. Even better mid level option, the j5+. Probably above your price range, but it’s a good investment, per say. I say that having had a Roomba 960 since 2017. A Roomba j7+ since 2021 and my most recent addition a Roomba s9+. Honestly the 960 is still a beast. I have several floors, for the record…they’re not in a closed glass case. 🤣 Roborock has some models that do well, as well. I’m not sure if them off the top of my head. PS: A combo robot just isn’t it quite yet, I wouldn’t spend the money on a combo at this point, especially at your price point. Question: what size is your place? Square feet wise.

I have a Roomba j7+ and my dog can shed quite a bit. I have the roomba run when we are in bed and it's so nice to go from seeing dog fur all over my carpet and rugs to there being none. Also my bathroom in the main floor has a black throw rug that shows every spec of dust on it and same thing, so nice to come out and see it nice and clean. Now I did see that it is recommended to still use an upright vacuum every now and then since robot vacuums don't have the level of power they have so they can't get deep into rugs.

I’ve been using the iRobot Roomba j7+, and it’s been such a relief for handling pet hair! I have a Labrador and a cat, and their hair used to be everywhere, especially on my rugs. The Roomba does an amazing job on both hardwood floors and carpets, and it rarely misses a spot. One thing I love is the self-emptying feature. It saves so much time, especially when there’s a lot of hair to deal with. Maintenance is pretty easy too; I just clean the brushes and filters once a week. Before this, I tried a cheaper model from another brand, but it kept getting stuck or missing patches of fur, so I’d always have to go back and clean manually. With the j7+, I can just set it on a schedule and not worry about it. Totally worth the investment in my opinion!

Mapping 9 | Roomba J7+ 5 Does very good but I dont like how it splits one of my rooms ( Obstacle Avoidance 7 | Roomba J7+ 8 Does good, gentle around furniture. Has issues with a couple dog toys that it like to try and suck up. App 7 | Roomba App 8 Lots of options. Can tweak almost everything. Frustrating trying to change room layouts Vacuum Carpet 7 | Roomba 6 Does a good job on short carpet. I have a German shepherd and it does a good job of getting hair of carpet. Also does a decent job of getting dirt off surface of carpet. Deep clean you will want a regular vacuum. Vacuum Hardwood 5 | Roomba J7+ 7 As time has gone on the x10 that cleans my upstairs which is 90% LPF seems to have lost some of its cleaning power. I haven't noticed this on my basement x10 which is cleaning 90% carpet. My x10's seem to have issues picking up anything the size of dog food. Never had any issue with roomba when it come to vacuuming up dog food or anything that size. Mopping 8 | Roomba J7+ 0 Seems to have gotten better at mopping since I got it. easily cleans light messes and dirt off the floor. Base station 9 | Roomba Base 7 Does what its designed to do and seems to hold a lot more dirt then roomba. Has yet to fail to empty the vacuum where as my roomba would sometimes fail to empty due to small debris clogging the base station. Quality 5 | Roomba J7+ 7 I have 2 of x10's. I've had to send one in for repair already due to a roller brush bushing breaking. Anything the size of a piece of dog food will jam the roller and potentially break the dumb bushing design that holds the brush. I've also had sensor failure errors that come and go. Never had issues with roomba and the build quality just seems better on my J7+ I expect both x10's needing to be replaced in 5 years. Overall I would say dont pay full price. If you can get it for 600 or less its prob a good machine but the overall quality holds it back.

Oh, I don't know what's best then. I thought you already had a Roomba. Roomba and Bravaa work together (when you create a task for the Roomba, you have an option to create a chained task for the Bravaa). I'm not sure it'll be that convenient in your case. However I like how the Bravaa is built compared to the 2 in 1. The retractable mops on the latter look very fragile to me (and I actually had to return my J7+ because that retractable mop wasn't working anymore).

Yes in fact its the ONLY ROBOT that can possibly clean my house divided with a 50mm floor height differential... If i can get things cleaned up and storage space for the YouTube videos I believe my work will have me as one of if not the only USA based client using X50 model - I will have a lot of info to share soon for anyone here - and show exactly why this was the one robot that i Didn't want to waste even the holiday discount on amazon USA Dreame X40 Ultra of $999 pre tax when $1600 could actually clean in entire house with features i had prayed would all be added into a single machine (Dual Tappered Rollers with attachment only on one side for complete solution to all hair tangles no need to cut them when like the Roborock Qrevo Curve has a split single version the same concept to not have hair tangle and drive towards in its case the center and into bin directly vs tangling in roller) Many.. many.. more examples I saw over all the parent companies differing products but never put into a singular one for US markets anyway.. And idk if the X50 Pro will ever be sold in US markets.. Most likely a dumbed down version! Justy like the X40 Ultra ... VS PPRO ULTRA that solves MANY of my issues as a designer that the X40 with a singular roller has.. That for the years they were decent pre <2017 that iRobot at least realized the dual roller is always superior to the singular and that you see added suction added to work dumber not smarter with everyone that was held back by their patent on the tech.. Anyway in a Dr. office waiting room.. Probably tons of typos but I was searching to check if X50 Ultra replacement filters and things will work on X50 Pro as its just a few days away now and came across this thread.. Will maybe share more and update this to not be as scattered later - But I need to even confirm our "Work Around" even functions.. I WOULD NOT Encourage anyone to order an X50 model of Any kind of in USA as Chinese people are willing to sell you hardware but not share you will be geo locked.. Some X40 models were able to have a VPN type workaround but they became more sophisticated with means to validate app and robot location and even limit ... well no warranty ..thats a given and horrifying for most.. But we arent even sure how firmware will go with the server \[I cant say more here\] But Ill be doing reviews soon and while they do change their security .. Its one reason id never advise anyone but those willing to have a $1500 paperweight.. with no support nothing! I am on the other hand a trail blazer and trying to overcome the issues keeping robots for US markets IMO .. Limited in ways... WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY FOR! And years of robotics work since... early childhood just made me repulsed by the options given to us here in USA.... Even if the X40 Pro ultra or BETTER X40 Pro Enhanced were vaialble .. Id not have such repulse for the designs.. But again my house (Studio) has a 50+ mm divider from main room here in the main area, to the bathroom which is elevated by that much that then another doorway and drops down that much into bedroom ... Needing cleaning.. Currently being cleaned by a Roomba something J7+ whatever thats being returned to amazon..

I have the J7+ (~~same unit, this is just the Costco version with slightly larger battery~~) and I love it! Takes a few cleanings to really learn & map out your house, but after that, its navigation is awesome! It even has a camera to intelligently avoid obstacles it could get stuck on like cords, ~~clothes, some toys~~, etc, therefore it extremely rarely gets stuck (unlike my previous non-Roomba brand). I love the auto empty feature, as it truly makes the unit hassle free. The only maintenance I need to do is clean out the rollers & clean or replace the filter monthly, and then the bag lasts multiple months for me. Robot vacuums do take a little while to clean, cleaning by hand vacuum will be faster but way more work obviously. But with a condo, it shouldn't take too long, plus you could run it while you are out. My only suggestion for considering an upgrade would be if you want a mopping feature. I haven't used a Roomba with a mop, but I've heard it is more like just wiping with a wet cloth rather than actual mopping, so I didn't feel like it was worth it for me.

We have 17 cats and a dog. We do not have carpet. We currently have the Roomba J7+ and it's been great. We've had it for about 3 years. It's definitely been well used and is starting to have issues with charging and extreme noise increase. I wanted to upgrade to a vacuum mop combo. After some research thanks to my ADHD hyperfixation. I decided on one. I ended up ordering the shark powerdetect 2in1 robot vacuum and mop with never touch pro base. I purchased it directly from the shark website and got a 3 year warranty included. With the markdown currently and a code I found on Reddit I got it for $599 and change. I chose this one for several reasons. I love the shark brand. We have several different products from them and they have been great. We actually still have a corded vacuum from them that we purchased after our wedding (8 years) I really liked the idea of a bag-less tank. It's one less thing you have to purchase and keep up with and I feel like it will be more of an eco friendly option. The cleaning solution: I was looking at a few different robots during my research. And from what I found. The shark solution is the only cleaner I could find that is sold online and in stores. For me that was a pro Another pro is that it has advanced edge cleaning "No cleaning details missed—when vacuuming, EdgeDetect blasts air to push debris from edges into the robot’s cleaning path. While mopping, it extends the pad up to an inch to for edge-to-edge mop cleaning." Hopefully this helps you some. 💙

I recently purchased two expensive robots to see how they compared, the Roomba Combo J9+, and the Samsung JetBot Combo AI and I have to say that they both have been good. If you don’t care about mopping then the Roomba J7+ would be great for you. I never had any issues with it getting stuck besides it getting stuck under my couch before I set a no-go zone. But the app is the best I’ve tried. The robot was really good at avoiding all my dog’s toys and destroyed blankets and navigating it all. But for mopping I would recommend Samsung’s as I’ve also had little issues after the first day or two. Again, just after setting no-go zones in places they might damage themselves like under my couch, it has been working perfectly fine! Not getting stuck, going around toys and blankets on the floor, cleaning its own mop with steam and hot water. Everything is automated once initial setup with some extra features. I’ve only had it for a week or so now so I can’t say for sure how it will be long term, but it’s been very great so far with no babysitting after it’s mapping run was done. Feel free to ask any questions about it!

These are my exact requirements also. It’s a challenge. And it’s why I got two older J7+ Roombas. They have great vacuuming. Auto empty. AI object avoidance, dirt detection, bin full sensing. All around great package. This is really hard to find so I put up with their less than stellar VSlam navigation. I guess I’ll try to keep these J7s running as long as possible. Because not even Roomba’s newest products measure up to the old line.

I got an iRobot J7+ for Christmas. In the 4 days it has been set up and on a daily run schedule, I have been underwhelmed by it - it takes several hours to run about 1250 sq ft, with a recharge. I haven't even bothered with trying the mopping yet. To be fair, it vacuumed well, but seemed to go over the same areas multiple times to get everything) I posted a thread about how long it was taking and was it normal, and another redditor said they got rid of their iRobot and loves their Dreame L20. After more research into it, I decided to pull the trigger and bought it directly from their website for $170 less than the iRobot cost because they are currently 57% off (until 1/13 I think). It's arriving next week, and I am returning the J7. For reference, we have 2 cats and 2 dogs (all long hair except 1 cat), plus me who has long hair and sheds like a dog. Just wanted to throw my $.02 just in case you wanted to research the Dreame yourself and jump on the good sale they are having.

Same situation with short haired dogs. We use a J7+ (auto empty) and a 980. Both pick-up well. If you want to minimize cost, a used 980. It maps and has boosted suction and suction is the major factor on hard floors. ( We also use self modified non-HEPA filters for maximum suction). We've been pleased with several different Roomba models over the years and consider them a nessessity with multiple shedders.

have had mine for a few days now. compared to my roomba j7+, its vastly superior in terms of cleaning and obstacle avoidance. the only issue i'm noticing so far, and this could be user error, i set it out for whole house clean and selected vacuum only for my bedroom (room 7 of 8 on the list to clean). i got an app alert after about 2 hours or so saying the task was finished. yay! not yay because as the app updated to show the places cleaned, the bedroom (room 7) and connected bathroom (room 8) did not get cleaned. it went back to wash the mops and is currently drying them, so it'll be interesting to see if it returns to vacuum only the bedroom and then vac/mop the bathroom. if this is in fact what it does, i'll set the bedroom to vac/mop so it does it all at once instead of having to go back, wash/dry the mop pads and then turn around and go back out and repeat the wash/dry cycle. overall, i'm pleased with it. it cleans the kitty litter well and seems to do well on carpet when i ran it for a test run the day i got it. i did end up ordering the rubber roller because the bristle one was already a mess (6 cats and a GSD so fur everywhere, daily). i'm setting it for M-W-F vac mop, T-Th vac only and then just the litter areas on the weekends (with a daily afternoon litter cleanup, vac/mop). i want to see how long the water tank will last on 3x weekly. for the price, it was the best available. i watched reviews on YT for probably a month and waited for Prime Day, so the 599 i paid was worth it. hoping its a worthwhile long term good tool

It is exceptional at hard floors its mopping and vacuuming capabilities are superb. However I tried both the rubber brush and tri-cut brush and its pickup on my low-pile rug and generic apartment bedroom carpet was very abysmal. I have no hair and my 11lb chihuahua has short hair and it can’t even pickup the hair on the carpet after I vacuumed hours before with my regular vacuum. The filter also clogs with fine dust way too easy and needs to be tapped out in the sink or outside honestly almost after every run. I have an air purifier and good AC filters. My understanding is China doesn’t have carpet really. Also that when they switched to spinning mops they raised the units. But the L40 and X40 which this is based on allegedly have a re-designed air duct to fix this. But it seems we need the X50 design and maybe minor improvements on it to get good carpet performance. Also paschal is a unit of pressure not of air flow. I have switched to a Shark and it does a better job than the Mova P10 Pro Ultra. I previously had a Roomba J7+ its vacuum performance was amazing and obstacle detection. But its noise level, navigation, and battery life was a nightmare.

I had the Roomba J7+ for 2.5 years. It served well it was great with not really any hair collecting on the brushes. I just got the MOVA P10 Pro Ultra. Clipped an Amazon coupon on the app. But you could maybe get the MOVA P50 it will have a 3 yr warranty. I think the P50 has the tri-cut rubber brush essentially but the P10 has the standard rubber brush which is what I wanted coming from the Roomba. Look at the Dreame L40, X30, X40, and/or X50. Roborock has better support than Dreame/MOVA. But a lot of their vacuums don’t have cameras which are essential for obstacle avoidance. There are fewer Dreame/MOVA models without cameras. That’s why I kept the roomba so long the camera.

The Shark models with LiDAR and older Roombas are very good on carpet. lol. Which means good at deep cleaning to me. I tried the Mova P10 Pro Ultra which is basically a Dreame L40. The dreame X50 is good on carpets none of the other Dreame/MOVA are. The MOVA v50 coming out will be good on carpets it’s similar to an X50. I recently got a shark 2in1 with the side vent that puffs air at the wall. There’s is a newer slightly updated model that can drop the pads. I previously had a J7+ Roomba. Who knows if the new ones not made by them but branded iRobot Roomba still are any good. I don’t recommend the roombas though really. And who knows about the newer models.

I was going on 2.5 years with my J7+. It started having hardware and software issues. The battery life was terrible it couldn’t vacuum my newest 1 bedroom apartment without needing to recharge for 2.5 hrs with the most recent update. They would only replace my battery with a smaller one. I had to still use the smaller replacement battery into the new one. But they sent me a new robot and base under my warranty because the pictures they asked for showed my charging contacts on both were oxidized and worn (I did the maintenance on them like told to) other robots don’t have that white oxidation on the charging contacts. Some even place nickel plates you can buy on amazon and eBay over the iRobot Roomba charging contacts. I ended up just cancelling the iRobot select service. It was making phantom rooms I was done playing the delete and re-map until the map gets perfect, which did work for me in the past but I was over it. It was so LOUD too ugh compared to other bots on the market. I got a MOVA P10 Pro Ultra. It’s not quite as good at carpets. But it’s much better at hard floors with the mopping. And it doesn’t bump and slam into the baseboards constantly and everything else. App is way more advanced.

I have the iRobot J7+ and it works well on hard wood floors. It’s hit and miss on rugs and we still need to use the upright once a week but for the most part it keeps up after the dogs. I also use a mud buster and a pail of water to wash the dogs feet before they come in after being out during the muddy season. The bucket and mud buster is on the deck. I wash their feet on the deck and have them step in to dry them with cheap beach towels we got at the dollar store. Makes a world of difference. I have an 100lb lab mix and a long haired, 200lb Anatolian Shepherd with an under coat. He sheds like it’s his job.

I too have all carpet in my place except for kitchen and bathrooms. (I like to be \*comfortable\* here in MN, no cold hard floors for me, no matter that bare floors are all the rage these days.) I have a J5 Combo and a J7+. Both do very well keeping up with my German Shepherd's shedding, and for the first time in decades of GSD ownership I can walk through my main living area at any time and not get hair all over my socks. Huskies may not shed year round like German Shepherds, but the few I've known, when they blow their coats, it's a blizzard. You'll still have to brush them pretty often to keep up at those times, but a robot vacuum can help with the normal shedding and the hairs that keep falling no matter what you do in the grooming department. These two vacuums are advertised to have increased suction power over some other models. I think that with carpet, the extra suction is important. I never use the available mopping feature of the J5, but at the time that level of suction power didn't come without it.

What ever you pick don't pick roomba. I am semi-disabled and the roomba needs to be lifted up/cleaned by hand almost daily, and it often dies in hard to recover places (under bed). This is one of their flagship models too. You want one that is fully automated with emptying station, and with tech that handles hair well, especially if cats are long haired. We have dogs and hairs get tangled often in the Roomba. I know there are models that are anti hair tangle, but people here will know more about that than me. I think at least some Dreame's have it and maybe some Roborocks? Honestly for this purpose budget should be over 600, but I guess it can be an entry into robot vacuums.

We have 6 fur animals and 3 long-hair people here. My Narwal Z Ultra has been running daily for 11 days now. This morning it ran over some paper business cards and threw a "roller tangled error" because two cards got stuck in the roller. It managed to take itself to the base to dry and decontaminate the mop pads. Why am I recommending this unit? Because when I opened the roller to remove the business cards, it was completely devoid of any tangles. No fur, no hair, no cords. The roller was clean, and just the business cards were stuck in there. I have: Two Roomba i7+ units (also great with hair, but not as good as the Z, since long hair makes its way to the axel on the Roombas, where as the Z sucks it into the chamber) The OG Freo with anti-tangle roller (not as good as the Roombas at vacuuming or tangle-free operation) I also have a shark regular vacuum, and was considering their robovac before I got the Z but the Z is fantastic at both carpet and mopping. If you don't need a mop, the Roomba J7+ or S9 would be good. Not sure about newer ones. The roborocks are also very good. Check out the VacuumWars YouTube channel if you want to make comparisons

We have foster failed…a few times… 😆 We have 6 people, 5 cats, and 5 dogs living in our home. I have a J9+ Combo for my formal living room/kitchen, and just bought a J7+ for my entertainment room/dining room. The J7+ is in the rooms that my dogs spend most of their time in, and it has been doing a fabulous job! I really wanted to test out its capabilities, so I didn’t vacuum the room before I set the Roomba to it. I spent the first bit of its first vacuuming run laughing, because it would run maybe 5 feet from the base, and then head back home to empty the bin! I know it was fully full, because I didn’t have the lid closed all the way at first on the base, so it wasn’t able to seal to create suction to self-empty. I manually emptied the first one while I figured out the problem, and it was chock full of dirt and dog hair! I paid $1000 for my J9+ Combo, but only $240 for the J7+ on iRobot’s official eBay store! The only “drawback” to the J7+ is that it doesn’t also mop, but I don’t need that for the rooms it’s in. And the J7+ vacuums just as well as the J9+ Combo! I’m a sucker for fun tech, but I also LOVE a great deal!!! Best of luck to you!

I have 2 iRobot J7+s and run them 4 times a week. They do well and are entirely worth the expense and the maintenance/glitches. And really, ALL robot vacs will have issues. The manufacturers must use lightweight materials so they have good battery life, but lightweight materials wear out easier. Until better batteries are made, robotic vacuums will have a limited lifespan. With shedding dogs, and I would imagine with small children, a good robotic vacuum sure beats not having one.

As others have said, Vacuum wars have some great comparison videos with stains (and I think the channel owner is a moderator on this subreddit now.) I have an irobot J7+ (just vacuum, with auto-emptying dock) and a Roborock s7 maxv, which is a vacuum and mop combo. I don't have the dock, because I foolishly believed like many others I could buy it without it, and get the dock for cheap later on. The mopping function is fantastic, and is great for cleaning footprints, dirt, and very light stains. Doing 3 or so passes on the same room can do a somewhat better job, but tough stains will require manual cleaning eventually, and I suspect that will be the case regardless of the vacuum you get. It's definately worth it to have though, and saves a ton of effort and time in my case. I also have a regular cordless vacuum/mop combo (A Tineco Floor One S5), which I would not recommend. It works decently enough (although it also doesn't get tough stains, which is what I was hoping for), but cleanup is a pain. I've only used it a couple times in months, and usually send out the other robot vacuums first to get up all the hair and debris to make cleanup easier when I do. **Shop around for a while, but don't order until Black Friday or something like Prime day. Usually you'll get 30-45% discounts on models you're interested in.** Auto-emptying docks are a godsend, and bigger batteries are also really important, IMO. My J7+ often has to charge 1-2 times to finish the job, and over years batteries degrade and get weaker. I've heard good things about later models of self-cleaning and emptying versions of the mop parts as well--earlier ones had issues with drying the mop pad. TLDR: Mops are definitely worth it.

r/RobotVacuums • Can robot vacuums with mopping functions really clean well? ->

My Irobot J7+ and Roborock s7 maxv have significantly different power, but not in that sense. The Roborock can go far longer without having to return to the dock and charge, while the irobot often has to charge 1-2 times before finishing the same job. Navigation and mopping are also obviously better. Bigger batteries are key as the machines age, since you can't replace batteries easily. I also have a roborock qrevo with the full dock (which my other one lacks), and it's so much more convenient that it fills the water and cleans and dries the mop all on it's own, as well as emptying the dirt. The J7+ Does have a bigger dirt bag, but it clogs more often IMO.

It’s totally possible my bot is just… special but I have to disagree. My J7+ has decent suction but the Roborock was better. It has okay cord avoidance but is downright awful at everything else. The obstacle avoidance at the lowest setting makes it afraid to cross shadows from the open windows because it thinks they’re cliffs. It regularly gets lost in the house. It struggles to climb onto its dock and then can’t empty until I realign it.

Here’s the thing. I’ve got long hair, we have 1 standard husky, 1 long haired husky, and a GSD. We’re a hot mess of a household when it comes to hair. lol. That being said since 2020 I’ve had 2 Roborocks (not self empty), and 3 iRobot j7+ Roombas. The Roborock bots blew my mind and I had zero issues with them but I dumped them for a self emptying bot (they didn’t have a reasonably priced one at the time). **The self emptying bots are a game changer for the hair. The device itself gets so much less tangled up and grody when it can purge.** All that said I hate the iRobot devices with a passion. Hate them. The most recent is less than 2 years old and I will happily take it out into the drive way and beat the @$!& out of it when I replace it with a Roborock in July during Prime Day. They’re just the literally stupidest electronic I’ve ever owned and I drive a Hyundai. - They’re afraid of shadows, depending on your windows and time of day they may get trapped. - They can’t find the doc when it’s two feet in front of them or even better they get on the doc but one wheel is out of place so it won’t empty. - The camera mapping and navigation is just painful. - It says our bedroom is going to take 16 minutes to clean but it’s never taken less than 45 minutes. - I have to remap the whole place and start from scratch at least once every 60 days. - And *my favorite part* is that after the first week or so it’s physically incapable of doing a full run one the place without needing to be rescued from *something* (shadows, can’t find the doc, “stuck” in a room with the door wide open). You’d think it’s just my house right?? Me too! But this is the second place I’ve brought these 2 j7+ bots and had the same issues both places. Also, we replaced one and the new bot is just as troubled as the old two so it’s them, not me. Don’t even get me started on the maintenance costs and replacement parts. /end rant I guess. **TLDR; Get a Roborock. Avoid iRobot/Roomba at all costs.**

Irobot has a camera for object avoidance. I think it works pretty great.  It worked perfectly in the beginning, but God forbid when you are training the ai(?) by reviewing the photos you ever allow anything as "not an obstacle" then it will run over similar things forever. They \*could\* but I doubt very much that they do; it would cost a lot. The biggest privacy risk is revealing a map of the layout of your home if your online account is hacked. I have an iRobot Roomba that empties its own bag into a base. Love it. Love not having to vacuum under beds and sofas. It took some prep to make my home ready for it--furniture needs to be high enough (and legs wide enough apart) for it to run up under. Lamp cords need to be secured. Don't run it automatically or when you're not home. Do clean the hair out of it after it runs (takes only a couple minutes). I run it once a week. I spend 3-4 minutes putting things like litter baskets and chairs up off the floor so it has a better reach, then schedule it to run 3x. Then turn the schedule off again and return loose items to the floor. Spend about a minute getting hair out of its rollers. I've had several good looks inside my Roomba and didn't see anything like microphones or cameras. Its bump sensors are not cameras. It does have an internet connection and so can be voice-controlled if you connect to Alexa or Google Home. But that is optional. If you only operate it with the app or onboard buttons, it cannot be voice controlled.

We upgraded to the Roomba that maps the house and empties itself in the docking station. It vacuums the whole house 3x a week and does the high traffic areas 5 nights a week after the kids go to bed. I do wish the mop version (Brava) worked better. I have not gotten that damn thing to properly map my house to mop for me and the solution that they sell for it makes all of our house shoes squeak for days.

The IRobot J series is quite terrible. They don't seem to have enough traction while mopping even on their lowest setting and using plain water, it'll just start sliding and not go in a straight line. Then it'll give up and be in the middle of a room. Also, the vacuuming is good with its dual rubber brushes but it seems the brushes pull up some of the moisture from the mop and then dust will clump up along with pet hair and clog before getting into the bin. I should've done more research than going with a Roomba. But I do like the obstacle avoidance.

Obstacle avoidance should the number one priority for if this is what you want to achieve. The Samsung Jet Bot AI is the king of the hill in this regard but has some limitations and issues elsewhere. The J series Roombas by iRobot are the most well rounded obstacle avoiders when factoring in cost, parts availability, filtration performance, customer service, and overall refinement. Neither are perfect.
