I have two dogs and two cats and the j7+ works just fine
I have a Roomba J7+. It was their first one that they say will avoid poo. Fortunately, we've never had to test that in the year we have had Ranger. It works well, but iRobot is having issues with money right now and the model is older. If you get one, it is important to remember that they still require regular maintenance to keep them from getting clogged or overwhelmed with hair.
Hair wraps around the brushes and needs to be removed. If you get a self emptying unit, they cannot get all of the dust out of the bin. Filters need to be cleaned and changed.
I have a Roomba j7+ on each floor of my house. I cannot speak to their latest lines as they have changed a lot and seem to not be moving in a great direction. But, the j7 was the first with their object avoidance that can identify poop and avoid it. I have not tested this specific feature, but I have seen it avoid socks and phone chargers. If you only want to touch the vacuum weekly or less, get one that self empties. The robot itself will need a little attention to get the last bits out of the bin 2-4 times per month, the bags they empty into usually last a month or two, and the rollers will need attention when the bin does. But, if you do not get a self emptying one, you might be eptying more than weekly. Check out Vacuum Wars on youtube and their website for in depth reviews and recommendations for different price points too.
j7+ is probably the better call for a lab, the obstacle avoidance actually handles random stuff on the floor way better than the s9+
I’ve got two j7+ and a 705 max with a golden! (Used to be two 😢). They work great for upkeep but you’ll still need to deep clean every once in awhile.
Good to know! I have a refurbished J7+ that's been retired to clean the room my mova can't get to but other than that, my experience with irobot is limited. I also personally am obsessed with self empty bins and would build a space into my couch somehow before buying a bot without a self empty bin.
The v50 is genuinely good. Especially at the price relative to competition. If you include all the extras in the ultra complete bundle, it makes the bot like $500 equivalent on a good sale. And the parts last a long time. But with the important caveat that QC is an issue. Use your bot extensively during the return window. Because you very well might have to swap it for another. Dreame does own them. Ostensibly, mova is their economy brand. In reality, since they get new tech second, they often come out more polished than some of the Dreame flagships. But Dreame customer support for foreign markets is also bad, so if you do have issues, it will be a hassle. It is a trade off. I have the v50 and I'm very happy with it. But mine does have an issue (almost all of them seem to) with the drive wheels making a rubbing/vibrating noise as they drive on hard floors. Otherwise it would be very quiet, so it's mildly disappointing. They say they will fix that with a firmware update, eventually. I doubt it. It seems mechanical. It's still quieter than the roomba J7+ it replaced. The app is also a bit finicky. Their servers seem to bog down at certain times leading to lag. I've also had it randomly change my rugs mop settings resulting in getting them wet. I think that's caused by map updates for automatically placed rugs - when it adjusts the borders it must replace the rug and return it to default settings. Solution is to make mop detach the global default and set other rugs manually, but this is annoying as a workaround. Room borders if you have any complex geometry like an open kitchen are also finicky. And it maps any reflections or windows as separate rooms, so you have to section them off and hide them repeatedly as it learns the map. Eventually it runs out of random areas to make though and it's fine. And with some toying around you can do what you want. It's very flexible, and object detection/avoidance has been pretty good for me. No issues with cords and it's flagged hairballs a couple times instead of going over them and making a mess. The bot does some weird things while cleaning also. For example it washes the mops, then detaches them to vacuum rugs, then washes them again before actually mopping, if you do a combined job. Wastes water. Clean Genius is super finicky and doesn't explain what it does, either. I don't use it. The built in voice assistant basically doesn't work. I think it's a language issue and the English recognition is just bad. It does integrate with other voice assistants, but so do most bots. I turned it off, as it would trigger randomly. The app also has good privacy features, if you trust the developers to respect them. If you enable it, it is fun to be able to drive around with the remote controls and bug your cats or family while you are out of town. It's like a mobile nest camera. You can also theoretically get it unstuck this way remotely if it's lost or trapped. I usually disable this for privacy reasons though. Idk. I'm not unhappy with it at all. It cleans extremely well and I haven't had it clog or wrap hair once despite multiple pets which was a constant battle with other models. It navigates well too and gets itself out of trouble using the climbing wheels 98% of the time. Sometimes it stumbles around uncertainly, but it figures it out on its own and resumes without complaining and interrupting tasks. Which is good enough for me. E: one thing I have noticed: it doesn't actually know how to tell when the bag is full. It just tells you to check it after 65 cleanings or something, and if you don't, it will keep running. I think there was some patent irobot had about this that explains it, but it's a mild annoyance. I had to clean out the dust bin and tubes the first time I didn't notice because they were entirely packed full of hair. I haven't had it do it again once I understood that, though. E2: if I have a main criticism, it is the battery life. It's very short when using mop and vac combined and all the other features. I don't have a huge main floor and I've still had to split it up between different days to avoid it charging mid task. It's also missing one feature from the roomba: guessing how long different rooms will take to clean with different settings. So it's kind of a trial and error process to get your routine going. In every other way it's hugely better though.
I don't know but I'm trying to replace a very weary Roomba J7+ in expectation of them dying soon and literally just kill me lmfao One thing if each brand had proper tiers but no they just have 600 random models that are THE SAME THING AAHHHHHHHHHHH Tomorrow I will probably flip a coin and buy the L50 or CurvX because I just cba to look at it anymore
