"I still love it for cleaning up after my cat and dog though."
"j9+ since it’s very good for pet hair."
"We have hardwood floors and a corgi so I can definitely relate. We went with the Roomba j9+ and I've been really pleased. I run it once a week, and "tumblecorgs" are minimal."

"The later Roombas with a camera/vision system are pretty good at avoiding things that could cause snags/clogs. ... I used to be vigilant with clearing the floor and even putting dining chairs on the table, but now I just have my Roomba run every night with dog toys, kid toys, wife's shoes and purse, chairs, charger cords, laundry baskets, and everything else blocking its path."
"But I do like the obstacle avoidance."
"Have one recliner it gets hooked on occasionally but it shuts off until I get it off then it stays away from it the rest of time."

"Also I have it programmed for every two to three days and it’s on time and doesn’t bother the nervous queen we have (Siamese) at all."

"The only time it has come in handy is when she thinks she is full due to debris (leaves)."

"It took some weeks and several "mapping runs" for it to finally figure things out, and then it broke and needed replacing. ... It was very frustrating to get working"
"God forbid when you are training the ai(?) by reviewing the photos you ever allow anything as ... not an obstacle ... then it will run over similar things forever. Like string, after I told it a cord off the ground was not an obstacle. :("
"it's the navigation that is problematic (hard hitting walls/furniture, poor coverage, and getting lost)"

"They don't seem to have enough traction while mopping even on their lowest setting and using plain water, it'll just start sliding and not go in a straight line. Then it'll give up and be in the middle of a room."
"the brushes pull up some of the moisture from the mop and then dust will clump up along with pet hair and clog before getting into the bin."
"the water tank is small and needs refilling every couple of days."

I can’t blame you. When the Max 10 or Combo j9+ work as they should,…….they are really great products. I run two Combo j9’s and a plain j9+……in a 1700 square foot rancher. I’m OCD. Love em. Love em.
I bought up a bunch of robot vacuums from Dreame, Ecovacs, and Roborock lately to test them out and they were all really bad at vacuuming so I returned them to Amazon and bought a pair of used Roomba j9+’s the non mopping combo ones and they vacuum so much better than any of the new combo vacuums did and saved me tons of money
Irobot has a camera for object avoidance. I think it works pretty great. It worked perfectly in the beginning, but God forbid when you are training the ai(?) by reviewing the photos you ever allow anything as "not an obstacle" then it will run over similar things forever. Like string, after I told it a cord off the ground was not an obstacle. :(
I LOVED my Roomba J9+. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of going the iRobot Select route instead of buying it outright and when it was time for a new robot, I got the 705 max and it is just awful in comparison. Navigation might be slightly better but it has major issues with the app, gets hair tangled constantly, won’t make a proper seal with the redesigned dock, doesn’t give proper notifications on errors and leaves you guessing why it just randomly decided to stop doing anything. And the Matter integration is very poor, at least with Apple Home. Always gets stuck as “updating” instead of the live status. TL;DR: Don’t get the Roomba 705 Max.
Have a j9+ and that thing is a workhorse that rarely has issues that interfere with the schedule. The issue is roomba has no competitors that aren’t liable for the same fate (eventual etrash)
I don't know about the new lineup, but nothing beats a Roomba 9-series on carpet, though. Even on hard floors, my Saros 10 misses a lot of spots that my J9 never did.
There are a few compromises to be aware of. I've had a Saros 10 for almost a year, but I still send my Roomba J9 out once in a while to clean up what the Saros misses. I also have the Narwal Flow, Roomba 705, previously had Dreame and Ecovacs, and nothing can clean tight around chair legs, round table pedestals, etc. as well as the classic Roombas. Roomba roller brush design also picks up hair, fur, and fuzz on rugs much better than any other brand, regardless of reported power. Also, LIDAR-based robots won't clean under curtains or bedding like classic Roombas could. I'm only aware of Dreame/Mova having a setting to accommodate this. The Roombas (old and new) also have more advanced voice control via Google/Siri/Alexa that allows just vacuuming, and can specify zones in addition to rooms. All other brands can only "clean" which wastes time and water when you just need a quick vacuum. Also, the Roomba app is just way more efficient to use. Not saying the move isn't worth it overall, but there are some sacrifices to be aware of.
Agreed, I had to have my j9+ replaced once because of several issues and the replacement dock they sent me doesn’t even work! The J5 has been great though, these combo robots are not very good IMO
I have the Roomba j9+ and the Braava since before combo robots became mainstream when it was the only real mopping option. Then it stopped working so well (for what it could do). So needed a new combo option for the mopping even though j9+ is suitable for what it does. Had planned on getting rid of it knowing wouldn’t get that much for it really. Then decided to keep it as upstairs only robot where not much mopping to do and I do that myself, rather than dragging combo robot and base upstairs.
The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is a beast insane suction, rubber brushes that don’t tangle with fur, and it mops too (if you’re into that). For a cheaper but still effective option, the Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid gets the job done with dual brushes and strong suction. If you’ve got a heavy shedder, the iRobot Roomba j9+ is pricey but worth itself-emptying, avoids pet messes like a pro, and handles carpets like a champ. Avoid anything with bristle rollers
irobot roomba j7+ is quiet and has great avoidance system. the next one, j9 is more powerful so it’s louder sometimes.
don’t buy overpriced chinese crap, get J7+/J9+ roomba instead. they both have a great obstacle avoidance system
