I'm using the J9+ vacuum only model. I have 2 Bernese Mountain dogs so non stop hair, we had 4 but unfortunately 2 old girls passed in 2025. Anyways, it keeps our house looking great. Miss 1 day though and then it's chaos 😀. With pets I recommend Cleaning the rollers and caster wheel nightly if needed and then once a week take the filter out and clean it also. You can use a makeup brush, or I use a little rechargeable air blower gun to blow it out outside.
I'm interested if anyone has a positive recommendation. I have a roomba J9 and I have tested by running my Shark NV752 TruePet immediately after the roomba, it picked up soooooo much more pet hair even after the roomba went over it twice.
There are a few compromises to be aware of. I've had a Saros 10 for almost a year, but I still send my Roomba J9 out once in a while to clean up what the Saros misses. I also have the Narwal Flow, Roomba 705, previously had Dreame and Ecovacs, and nothing can clean tight around chair legs, round table pedestals, etc. as well as the classic Roombas. Roomba roller brush design also picks up hair, fur, and fuzz on rugs much better than any other brand, regardless of reported power. Also, LIDAR-based robots won't clean under curtains or bedding like classic Roombas could. I'm only aware of Dreame/Mova having a setting to accommodate this. The Roombas (old and new) also have more advanced voice control via Google/Siri/Alexa that allows just vacuuming, and can specify zones in addition to rooms. All other brands can only "clean" which wastes time and water when you just need a quick vacuum. Also, the Roomba app is just way more efficient to use. Not saying the move isn't worth it overall, but there are some sacrifices to be aware of.
You need to replace the filters more, or at least clean it. I have to clean the filter every 3 days, with 3 huskies. I have a j7, j9, max 10
I haven’t found a good answer, I’m actually looking to replace all 3 j dries iRobot vacuums. They aren’t great for our house. They need weekly maintenance to even sort of work for the amount of hair.
I would recommend a roomba model that detects stuff, from a J7, J7+ to a J9, J9+ (the do detect pet "presents"😅) not the J9+combo, (that units dock had plenty of failures) I would also go for a Plus 505 combo if you also want to mop the floor, because It has the laser view but also a front camera. J7 J9 send pictures of obstacles and asks you if they're permanent or not, you could ask an AI to compare those models to better pick what suits you best, hope I've been helpful.
We have a roomba j9, no mop. 2 husky mixes. We constantly have to empty the roomba bin but it does a somewhat decent job of keep the hair at bay. We need to vacuum EVERY single day otherwise it looks like tumbleweeds of hair. 1400 sq ft house, and we have very very low pile rugs. It doesn't replace vacuuming but helps. We opted for the one without the mop because I don't trust anything with water if I'm not there. Plus I don't want the dogs walking on what was just mopped.
