I have the Roborock S5 and S6 max totally bullet proof. Had to replace the wheels on the S5 as it got trapped under our kitchen units while they where getting replaced and it burnt its self out. Got replacements from Ali Express and its as good as new. Also had to replaced the mop bracket sensor again from Ali Express. They just keep going
I would be opting for something that has AI and can identify 💩 lol. S6 max is pretty solid but I know that there are a lot of upgrades available. Personally we have a Dyson G1 hard floor cleaner to do a proper clean as we feel that the mopping feature just does do a proper job. And top tip? Dont put the vacuums on when you are out and the dogs are inside as the Roborock could go over any mess that the dog might have left lol
I love my Roborock Qrevo edge. I kept waiting for my old Roborock, I think an S6, to die to justify buying a fancier model, but it never did. I finally just bought this fancy beast when it was on sale and use my older model upstairs. It vacuums, mops, empties its own waste bin, washes the mop pads and dries them. It does a great job. It can do the full floor, it can do zone cleaning, specific room cleaning. You can program it to run automatically at a certain time each day, you can control the vacuum intensity, the water flow intensity, all the things. And it cleans in a very logical pattern. I hate robots that go in a random pattern, I’m always afraid they’re going to miss something. I realllllyyyyy love it.
Roborock all the way, my man. They're great. I started my roborock journey with the s6. Upgraded to s7 max v ultra for about 1.5k eur and used it for about 1 year until something broke in the dock, so I spoke to Amazon and they gave me a return label for a full refund. Good timing, because the s8 max v ultra had just been released, so with that money I got me the s8 max v ultra. That was may 2024. This week, the s8 max v ultra had an issue, and guess what? Roborock offered me again full refund for the return of the robot, and I just bought again the same model, roborock s8 max v ultra. The kicker is, currently roborock has a huuuuuge promotion on their amazon.de page, and I bought the s8 maxv ultra for about 650. New! So, soon I'll be getting the refund of 1.5k eur from them. Anyway, my point is, I strongly recommend them, and the roborock s8 max v ultra. At this price, it is the best value you can find on the market.
Valetudo's the right instinct. If the models available now feel risky, honestly the practical workaround is either waiting for better flashing guides or looking at older Roborock S-series (S5, S6) on the secondhand market — people have had decent success with those over time. Network isolation helps too: stick it on a dedicated IoT vlan with no internet if you can. Most of these vacuum companies don't actually need cloud to function day-to-day, they just default to it. Have you checked if any of the compatible models support flashing without serial port access? That's usually what makes the modification risk feel real.
If you love the roborock, don't switch over, IMO. There are great RR's for sale this week. [https://www.reddit.com/r/RobotVacuums/comments/1s3qr8l/amazon\_big\_spring\_sale\_recommendations\_by\_price/](https://www.reddit.com/r/RobotVacuums/comments/1s3qr8l/amazon_big_spring_sale_recommendations_by_price/) If you DO want to switch, I'd argue for the L50. It has better rollers (ignore the higher Pa. Its not as important as you think). It has the lifting chassis, which is helpful if you have thresholds, but also generally helpful, in my experience, to get over obstacles and most importantly- it seems to put pressure on the back of the robot when mopping, so the mop gets better contact w the floor. The hot water washing of the mop is something people feel passionately about, I see less of a big deal, but the L50 has it and the l40 doesn't. L50 is also slimmer because the LIDAR tower retracts.
I have a Roborock S6 bought in 2020 that is still working. I honestly think I prefer my old 2007 Dyson and it is superior at vacuuming but I do like the robot vacuum for regular cleaning.
My roborock s6 lasted 6 years before the battery gave up, worked fine with regular consumable replacements.
Its probably because its trying to map out the edge of the carpet, the s6 doesnt really need to do this because it cant lift up its mop either way. Maybe just let the s6 clean the carpets and let the Qrevo Slim do everything else.
