"LiDAR and mop arms were messing with navigation when the arm was up, as it is a spinning light sensor, and it caused issues in their internal testing. They had to save space, so they stuck with **Starsight** on the Z70. ... Starsight is definitely the future, no doubt. But we re in the transition phase, and right now, it s still working through real-world quirks. LiDAR just works day one, no training wheels no updates."
Don't buy the Z70. [https://lifehacker.com/tech/roborock-saros-z70-review](https://lifehacker.com/tech/roborock-saros-z70-review)
r/RobotVacuums • Best High-End Robot? ->There is no perfect robovac.... but... I like the robots with split rollers, like the Roborock Saros line. These also have a removable tray, and I think the hardware is solid. But in reality, almost all premium robovacs and even the midtiers have these features (removable trays, etc).
r/RobotVacuums • What generally goes wrong in a vacuum+mop+cleaning robot? What to watch out for? ->I was torn between the S10R and the Z70, but I ended up going for the Z70 because of the robotic arm and honestly the suction power and obstacle avoidance are perfect. My place has a pretty complicated layout, but I never have to worry about it getting stuck anywhere.
r/RobotVacuums • For the love of God, is there objectively a good robovac choice? ->Only 1 of the 3 new models has a vibrating mop. The flagship Saros Z70 uses rotating mops and so does the 10R. Vibrating mops are only effective depending on how much force they apply and how fast it can vibrate. Even Roborock advertises rotating mops to be superior to vibrating ones.
r/RobotVacuums • I Was Wrong About Robot Vacuum Mops and What I'm Doing About It ->The Z70 launched in Singapore a month ago and I placed an order once I saw it. The unit came two plus weeks ago and unfortunately bricked during firmware update. It took the service centre a week plus to troubleshoot and replace the motherboard. Finally received it today! Wondering if anyone else received their unit and would like to share what items are you tried to pick up with the robot arm?
r/Roborock • Upgraded to the Z70 from S7! ->The Z70 has "22,000 Pa" vs my S5's "2,000 Pa" - on paper the Z70 should crush it. But when I put my hand on the exhaust, way more air flows out of the S5. Turns out **Pa is just pressure, not airflow volume**. It's like comparing a leaf blower to an air duster - the leaf blower moves piles of leaves with lower pressure but high volume, while the air duster has crazy pressure but tiny volume (great for keyboards, useless for leaves). For actually picking up dog hair and debris, you need **air volume** (CFM) to lift and transport stuff into the vacuum. According to Vacuum Wars testing, the Z70 only moves 16 CFM while my S5 moves around 17-18 CFM - so my older vacuum actually has better airflow despite the lower Pa rating. So Roborock basically chased higher Pa numbers for marketing but sacrificed the airflow engineering that actually matters for cleaning performance. My 7-year-old vacuum has better real-world design than the newer model.
r/Roborock • Why Pa specs are misleading - my 2,000 Pa S5 outcleans my 22,000 Pa Z70 ->Then stay away from Z70. It has worse vacuuming performance. 10R has the very effective DuoDivide roller brush system with hair anti tangling. The Z70 is nowhere near as good. You'd pay for that Z70 arm not only with money, but also with compromises on cleaning performance. And what you get is a toy arm with currently very limited capabilities. Only very few item types are supported, and even then it fails on half of all attempts.
r/Roborock • Saros r10 vs Z70 ->Huuuge misconception. Z70 failed vacuuming badly in Vacuum Wars test. Its new roller brush system is a downgrade and the dustbin size is a joke. It's completely disqualified for homes with shedding pets. [https://youtu.be/ykPW3EbDIR4?si=s3S-nA1JPQ99guqC&t=420](https://youtu.be/ykPW3EbDIR4?si=s3S-nA1JPQ99guqC&t=420)
r/Roborock • Saros r10 vs Z70 ->Curv, Edge and Saros, all models with AdaptiLift can stretch their legs to go over long pile without getting stuck. But don't expect them do do any good vacuuming while being raised.
r/Roborock • High Pile/Shag Rugs ->Oh wow, thanks for doing this!! How on gods green earth is the Z70 rated so high?? Arm doesn’t work, vacuuming took a huge step back, mopping stayed the same and the price doubled. Somehow it still has more stars than all the other roboroocks? How? Something doesn’t add up here.
r/RobotVacuums • Ok I made a spreadsheet with Vacuum Wars data ->The Z70 has a different dust bin, different roller brush, different housing for the roller brush. If you look at the reviews of the Z70 the carpet performance is abysmal. The mopping system is the same as the 10R I believe, but they made sacrifices to the vacuuming performance to fit the arm and almost every independent reviewer has said as much. The Z70 should be rated lower than the 10/10r due to worse vacuuming, adding an arm that doesn’t work and the price being double, but for some reason the star rating is higher? It doesn’t make sense.
r/RobotVacuums • Ok I made a spreadsheet with Vacuum Wars data ->Absolutely worth it for your situation! Robot mops have improved dramatically - they're perfect for maintaining cleanliness between deep cleans. With 3 dogs and a toddler, running it 3x weekly will be a game-changer. You should check out the roborock saros Z70 - it's got a robotic arm that can actually pick up something like socks under 300g which is amazing for busy moms!
r/RobotVacuums • Advice on if a robo vacuum/mop is even worth it. ->I feel this! I would love the non-mop functionality of the Saros Z70. Why can't it come as either vacuum only or vacuum/mop combo. I have zero interest in mopping functions. However, I do want the robot arm. LOL. Plus, it is bound to be less expensive if it doesn't have to have a water tank, heater, etc.
r/Roborock • All I want is a kick ass VACUUM ONLY robot with the best object detection, why can't you make this? ->I just got my Roborock Saros Z70 and I was able to add it to HomeKit via Matter quite seamlessly. As others have said, HK/Matter’s feature support is quite limited compared to the native app, but it has everything I need for automations!
r/HomeKit • Best Homekit Supported Robot Vacuums? ->Yes, robot vacuums have advanced quite a bit in the intervening years. To address your specific concerns: * Most modern robots use LIDAR to map your home and plan cleaning based off the map, rather than randomly bouncing around. You can go into the map and draw either no-go zones or virtual barriers in the app, and the robot will respect them. This is generally very reliable these days. * Because it maps your home and plans the route to clean, it deliberately moves in straight lines to cover all of your home, including hard-to-reach areas such as corners. * Hair tangling is still an issue with cheaper robots, but some of the higher-end robots have detangling systems that reduce or nearly eliminate hair tangles. Some of them cut the hair from the brushes, while others use the shape of the brushes to direct hair to an open end, from which the vacuum sucks the hair off. Side brushes can also fold and angle towards the main brush, causing hair to slip off and into the main brush. * Obstacle avoidance is one feature where you get what you pay for, and cords are one of the most difficult problems. Some of the really high-end robots do pretty well, and can even clean along the edge of the cord, but it's still not foolproof. Still, it's a lot better than it used to be. * Noise is likely still the same. * Suction is interesting. We've got measured suction numbers that are as much as 10 times what they used to be. However, compromises in the vacuum pathway made for other features will sometimes degrade the performance, to the point where some people believe that we reached peak vacuum performance about two years ago or so. It's still best to consider robot vacuums as more of a maintenance tool; you'll still have to manually vacuum, but less frequently.
r/RobotVacuums • Maybe a stupid question? How much have vacuums gotten better over the years? ->Given the same engineered vacuum pathway, increasing the suction should improve its vacuuming performance. I say "should" because you can reach a point where it doesn't matter anymore. For example, if your dustbin intake port is too small, it's likely to get clogged, and you're not going to be able to bump the suction up to overcome that problem on a battery-operated robot that also has to power its drive system, navigation sensors, etc. I'm sure you can find comparisons between older robots and newer robots where the older ones are better vacuums, but you can also find newer ones that rate well. The Dyson 360 Vis Nav is generally considered the best vacuuming robot on the market right now, and it's a relatively recent model. It's expensive, has almost no convenience features, and is a poor robot generally, but as a vacuum -- well, it lives up to the Dyson name. There's a theory going around that the new features in modern robots require compromises in the vacuum design. This is most clear with thing like the Roborock Saros Z70, where the robot arm steals tons of space from the other robot functions.
r/RobotVacuums • Maybe a stupid question? How much have vacuums gotten better over the years? ->It’s maybe the same brush mechanism as the i7 but it’s the roller mop they’re touting on this one. It’s not even a Roomba - they don’t design and make their own robots now, they had to outsource all of it to catch up with the competition after ignoring LiDAR for so long. I ditched my J7+ Combo for a Saros Z70 and I couldn’t be happier about it!
r/Roborock • Love my roborock...but this looks amazing! ->There are other robot vacuums that outperform the S8 series, like the Dyson 360 Nav. Nothing compares to it. However, I'm with you on the Saros line. The Z70 (which is based off the Saros 10R) doesn't get close to my Robo S8 MaxV Ultra on carpet. There seems to be some sacrifices made in order to achieve the thinner body style (and in my case, accommodate the arm).
r/Roborock • When it comes to vacuuming rugs and carpets, I have not found anything that out performs the base model Roborock S8, including the Saros 10R ->Why does everyone talk in hyperbole in this sub? The Z70 is far from garbage lol.
r/RobotVacuums • Trying to decide during the Anniversary sale ->Didn’t expect much from the arm, but it surprised me when it shifted my slippers instead of getting stuck.
r/RobotVacuums • X50 Ultra vs Z70, needs advise ->Totally get you. If you’re considering a robot vacuum with strong suction that you don’t really have to babysit, I’d definitely recommend the Roborock Z70. Using it myself, the powerful suction and warm water tank refilling makes it feel absolutely worth the price.
r/RobotVacuums • Making a decision is so hard! ->Plagued with issues. The arm is a gimmic. Latest firmware messes up the navigation. If it’s suppose to pick up a sock. Instead it marks them as hazard and avoids. You’re mandated to update if you just buy it. The arm is loud as heck when moving. The vision system isn’t as accurate when mapping. My lidar s8 MaxV did the map perfect in 2 cleans. Z70 is still learning and it ties rooms together through walls that don’t exist. It’s a great machine but it has bad software. Give it time I have white and it’s not white. Off silver
r/Roborock • Should I Get a Roborock or Another Brand? I’m Lost ->I had to preform a pin hole factory reset. If I make changes it says “Robot response timed out due to unstable network.” My WiFi is blazing fast 2G upload and 2G download.
r/Roborock • Should I Get a Roborock or Another Brand? I’m Lost ->No robovac is perfect at anything. Even if you get the best obstacle avoidance system in a robovac that is currently available, it will not avoid pet waste 100% of the time. If this is your primary mission, you need to look somewhere else entirely. The Z70 is very cool. But its arm does not function well and it vacuums very poorly. It may impress your friends, but it will not really clean your home. The 10R will usually avoid pet waste but not always. Estimate a 75% chance of success, because if it doesn't succeed everytime the actual percentage really doesn't matter. It is a mediocre vacuum cleaner, especially on rugs and carpets. It does mop well if the floors have been vacuumed thoroughly first. I prefer doing so with a different vacuum cleaner. Why don't you list your priorities from most important to least. Think about what problems you want to solve. From here, people will be better able to address your issues. I hope this helps!
r/Roborock • What is the best cheap Roborock? ->I feel your pain. Roborock is surely having some growing pains. They really need to simplify their offerings. The first time I bought a Roborock they had maybe 3 - fast forward a few short years later and the models have exploded and not in a good way. I absolutely adored my S8 Pro Ultra when I got it. It was light years ahead of anything I have ever tried. I told everyone who would listen how much I loved it. I upgraded to the Saros 10r and honestly I'm a bit underwhelmed. I'm just not seeing it as much of an "upgrade" as I expected from all the hype. Don't get me wrong it's amazing tech, but a bit overhyped if you're coming from a previous Roborock model. And it's so darn slow....but it cleans pretty darn well for my needs and is quieter than the S8 so I'm adjusting. The S8 vacuum was better and the saros mop is better. For good vacuum performance get a model with the original dual brushes. Hair gets trapped on the ends and you have to remove it weekly but it's easy. The newer duo divide brush doesn't tangle hair but it sacrifices vacuum performance - it's missed stuff the other brushes didn't. Mop- highly recommend the dual spinning mops. Impressive how much better it is over the single mop pad. If you don't pick up your stuff (toys, socks, etc) get a newer model with better obstacle avoidance. Those 3 things and you will have a great product (get the extended warranty). I would pass on the Saros z70, they had to sacrifice a lot for that arm and it doesn't do all that much.
r/Roborock • Should I Get a Roborock or Another Brand? I’m Lost ->Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of researching the Roborock lineup — specifically the Saros 10, 10R, and Z70. I’ve ended up going with the Saros 10, but I’m still super confused about all the conflicting reviews and tests, so I thought I’d share what I’ve found and maybe get your thoughts. For some context: (I feel like we can't test these robots as soon as they come out maybe wait abit get firmware done and a lot of other stuff because vacuum wars's testing was completely out of what other reviewers say) but we should come together as a community to see how we can minimise these inconsistencies. • I watched The French Glow, who loved the Saros 10. • Just a Dad Reviews also preferred the 10 over the 10R. • A few European robot vacuum websites had test results showing the 10 outperforming the 10R too. • Jamie Andrews also had the 10 doing better in cleaning tests, but at the end he said he’d personally go for the 10R, purely because he believes Roborock is moving forward with **Starsight Navigation**, since it’s in the Z70 (**this is incorrect**). • Meanwhile, Vacuum Wars had the Saros 10 performing terribly, which really threw me off. Honestly, based on the majority of the reviews I’ve seen, I think that test might need a redo. Now here’s where it gets interesting. I actually work in retail, and we recently had a couple of Roborock reps come in to train us, put stickers on the models, and give us the inside scoop. I straight-up asked him: “How would you rank the Z70, 10, and 10R right now?” His answer was: **Z70 > 10 > 10R** I then asked, “Why did you guys fit the Z70 with spinning mops and **Starsight** if it’s meant to be the best? Why not vibration and retractable LiDAR?” He explained: • LiDAR and mop arms were messing with navigation when the arm was up, as it’s a spinning light sensor, and it caused issues in their internal testing. They had to save space, so they stuck with **Starsight** on the Z70. • They didn’t go with vibration mopping due to weight and space constraints. • What I found interesting is that the Z70 doesn’t use Duo Divide, and they even said that Duo Divide was the better roller — so there are definitely trade-offs. • Overall, he said it was due to weight and space. • But in terms of all-round performance, he said the Saros 10 is currently the best cleaner overall. I even asked him why the 10 is better than the 10R. The 10 is technically the newer one as they have been out in China and there is a reason why they reverted back to lidar which he didn’t tell me but he said it has more suction power, a slightly better dock, and better mopping because it can put about 1kg of pressure on the floor when there are tough stains. It even has a little bumper on the top so when it’s under furniture and bumps into things, it knows and doesn’t scratch itself. I also told him, “Doesn’t the 10R detect more stuff?” and he just said no — same amount. Both use the same artificial intelligence trained on the same things to detect stuff. Also straight up told me the only thing the 10r does better then the 10 is that its dock is a lot easier to clean. But he also said you couldn’t go wrong with any of the Roborocks in their lineup — anything over 7000 Pascals will get the job done. He even told me that Pascals are pretty much just marketing. Also, something I didn’t know before: the “R” in 10R stands for the QRevo mop system, not “Roborock” or anything like that. As for me, I’m not too worried about “future-proofing” with **Starsight**. I usually upgrade my robot vac every 3 years, as I get product insurance on everything. So after the manufacturer’s warranty, I just put water in my robot and get the newest version out at that moment. I care more about current cleaning performance than long-term tech shifts. **TL;DR:** • Multiple reviewers (French Glow, Just a Dad, Jamie Andrews, etc.) rate the Saros 10 as better than the 10R. • Vacuum Wars says otherwise, but they seem like the outlier. • Roborock rep ranks Z70 > 10 > 10R, but admits there were trade-offs in the Z70 design. • I chose the Saros 10 — best cleaning performance today, and I upgrade every few years anyway. I hoped this helped pick your robot. 😀
r/Roborock • Roborock Saros 10 vs 10R vs Z70 – What the Reviews Say, What the Roborock Representatives Told Me, and Why I Ended Up Choosing the 10 (also abit about robot testing and why I find it extremely weird and inconsistent) ->Get the z70 it’s great
r/RobotVacuums • Trying to decide during the Anniversary sale ->Ended up getting the Z70 . As all said the arm is a gimmick but overall happy with the vacuum given the discounts and freebies.
r/Roborock • With the Roborock sale is the Saros Z70 worth buying for $1599 compared to the Saros 10R ->I have a s8 MaxV ultra, and I wanted to upgrade this year, but I don’t find the current line up that interesting tbh… I would like the saros 10r but it does not come in white and you can’t get it with the fresh water installation station… what a bummer. The saros 10 ist a better s8 max V, is it worth the extra 250bucks probably, but it’s not worth to upgrade for me. And the z70 is a joke :( the smaller dustbin with a worse main brush. So sad, I looked forward to it
r/Roborock • Help choosing between Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra and Saros 10 – coming from a Roomba i7 ->First of all Z70 is just a bad version of Saros 10R! So don’t even consider it, the internal tanks are so small just for a gimmick. Why I’d say Saros 10R over S8 MAXV Ultra (I have both): - auto detachable spinning mops: - can cross thresholds; - base had removable tray for easy cleaning; - better object detection in smaller frame so fits more places. - I have 3 cats and they both vacuum equally I’d say. I run them multiple times per day so I don’t let it build up too much. But spinning mops are really better.
r/Roborock • Roborock Saros 10r, 70z, S8 MaxV Ultra ->How tall is the piece of transition? For a single one up to 30mm, the roborock models with the AdaptiLift chassis (the most expensive QRevo Curv/Edge and the Saros line). Anything higher up to 4.2cm, if a threshold is less than 9cm long (5.2cm if it is at least 9cm long), will need the Dreame X50 Ultra or any equivalent MOVA model (V50 Ultra). I am aware that Dreame's L/X50 Ultra and any model (such as MOVA's V50 Ultra or the rare UK-only Dreame L40s Pro Ultra) that uses dual conical brushes has a *live fur compression* feature (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOOU0uJsVdU), which helps mitigate the issue of pet fur clogging the dustbin, even though the space isn't fully utilized. I saw it in action, and I think it lives up to its claim. It also cleans its filter when auto-emptying. This should be helpful for homes with heavy shedders such as yours\~ For paw prints, I think a robot that can identify messes like this and act accordingly would be important too. Dreame and Narwal do well with this if you turn on certain functions, such as their smart cleaning mode and intelligent mess detection.
r/RobotVacuums • Best vacuum/mop for two dogs who shed a lot ->This is definitely not exclusive on the ecovacs X9 pro omni. Ecovacs is late to this feature. Models that can do this well: Dreame’s L/X40 Ultra and newer (assuming there’s an RGB camera), Narwal Freo Z Ultra; Roborock Saros series and CurvX, MOVA P10 Pro Ultra, P50 Pro Ultra, Z50 Ultra, V50 Ultra
r/RobotVacuums • Robot Vac/mop sensing feature? ->I’d look at robots that can stop vacuuming, lift the main and side brush and just mop when they detect a liquid spill. The Dreame Aqua 10 Pro Track and the MOVA Z50 Ultra will be the closest robot to a steam mop as they use roller mops. There’s also the Narwal flow but no word on its release yet. Alternatively, there are robots with spinning mops that can do this after recognizing a liquid mess like Dreame’s L/X40 ultra and newer; roborock Saros models and the Curv X; the MOVA P10 Ultra/Pro Ultra, the P50 Ultra/Pro Ultra, and the V50 Ultra; and Narwal’s freo Z Ultra. Out of all of them, I’d recommend the MOVA V50 Ultra as it can mop with detergent and choose if it uses a pet odor neutralizing detergent when cleaning up after your dog or a regular one for general maintenance. Other roller mop models like the eufy S1 Pro, the eufy E25/E28, and the ecovacs X8 and X9 cannot mop up liquid spills without the vacuuming brushes smearing it.
r/RobotVacuums • Best Vacuum/Mop robot vacuum? ->I love the Roborock Saros. Here is a link for a discount. RRSAPS10R-Get Extra 6% Off on Roborock Saros 10R
r/ragdolls • Is a Robot vacuum worth it for Pet Hair? Best options under $200? ->Trust me you don’t need to drop $1800 on a robot vacuum. Any decent flagship Roborock will do, S8s or one of the higher end Q Revos. Saros is great but again you don’t really need them. Would avoid the other ones.
r/Roborock • Should I drop $1800 on a robot vacuum or go cheaper? ->Mopping performance compared to the Q Revo‘s. Rotating mops are just superior and I think Roborock finally admitted this by moving away from vibrating mop pads on the Saros which will most probably become the S9. Otherwise it’s really great. 👍
r/Roborock • What disappointed you the most with your Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra? ->You might not be happy with the build quality of the lower end series like the Q. Stick with Premium. I would get the S series or Saros. The Q series feels very cheap compared to the S plus it can handle the hair NP. It’s a more attractive unit too unless you like a shiny egg that looks like it came out of an 80s movie. lol
