I bought a used shark ai 2-in-1 and it’s been sick! It has an app and it vacs and mops. Mine doesn’t have a self emptying base but for the amount of time it saves me cleaning every day I can empty it with zero stress once a day.
I have a robot vac dedicated to just the litter box area, so it's not tracking poo/pee germs all over the house. I know the cats also track germs everywhere, but I can't program them to stay in one place.
Shark IQ is my litter box vac. The old Deebot died, so I replaced it with my existing IQ and replaced my IQ with a Roborock. It uses a magnet strip for boundaries, but it would be nice to have one with mapping.
Roborock Q5 Max+ for the rest of the upstairs floor. It handles fur the best out of the three. Less tangles that I have to cut out.
Shark AI Ultra for downstairs. It works pretty well, but the roller is finicky and needs to be cleaned more often.
If I had the budget, I'd have all Roborocks.

Look into the Shark AI Ultra self emptying model. It has a bagless base so you are not constantly buying bags and it handles pet hair much better than Roomba. The brush roll is designed to keep hair from wrapping around it which is a huge time saver. It is also noticeably quieter than most other robot vacuums so your husband shoild be fine working from home. Since you do not need mopping you can skip the combo units and save some money. Just make sure whatever you get has a rubber brush rather than bristles because bristles will get clogged with Lab fur almost instantly.
