Can you stretch your budget? I am in love with mine. I spilled coffee yesterday and set her to 'matrix clean' the area and get it for me. With the vacuum only canister in, it self empties. I have all hard floors, so I'm usually vacuuming and mopping at the same time. I have to empty the dust bin myself in that case, but it's no biggy I run it everyday because the mopping capacity really can't deep clean, but that's no biggy to me at all. At least I don't have to do it myself, and yet I can walk around barefoot or in socks and my feet stay clean. I have a cat with long hair and it gets all of that, in fact that's mostly what's in the dustbin. It maps well! Many don't. It bumps into furniture but very softly. It goes under my couch and under my bed. I can look at some models that are similar if you like for a little less and see if I can determine what they don't do that mine does. I don't care about the self empty at all, for instance, maybe I could have saved a bit. https://www.walmart.com/ip/5641806583?sid=5037c41f-1645-43e4-94af-3dc27c21a0bf For me, good mapping is a must have or else id have to keep my eye on it to mop where it misses. It has to mop well enough, obviously, since I have hard floors and can't physically do it myself. I'm relieved that although the mopping isn't superior, it's good enough that doing it daily keeps them very clean. The one I first got was ridiculous. It picked up well, but then would dump everything that it picked up in a pile. The so-called mopping was just dragging a wet pad around.

I have a shark IQ two in one, 298 down from 500 at Walmart. I wouldn't pay extra to have one detect me leaving the house.... I can turn it on before I leave or I can turn it on while I'm gone... The latter is useful if the battery is still needing to be charged when I leave. It has to mop every day or at least every other day to stay clean because it's not capable of deep cleaning. But that's easy because it vacuums and mops at the same time. I hardly ever use the vacuum only cartridge. I do if I've let two or three days go by so that way all the crumbs and dust and cat hair get vacuumed up

You have 30 days to return the vast majority of them. Just dive in! I started with one that was like $150 seemed too good to be true but it had all these glowing reviews on Amazon.. of course it was complete s***, but I learned from that what was important to me and what specifically to look for in the next one. I am completely in love with the one that I have and I only paid 298. Obviously it would be nice for it to wash its own mop pads and all of that fancy stuff, but I can't afford it. It self empties in vacuum only mode, but that doesn't really help me because I have all hard floors so I almost always have it vacuum and mop at the same time. What I like about this one, a $500 model that was on sale, is that it maps well, and the mopping is good enough that if I run it every day my floors stay clean enough to walk around barefoot or in socks. I'm not breaking my back to sweep, Swiffer and mop anymore and it's completely wonderful. I do not care that I have to switch out them up pads and refill the water myself. It's a shark IQ two in one matrix.. originally $500 I think it's $599 now at Walmart maybe because of the tariffs... The brush roll never gets stuck even though there's a long haired cat it has to pick up after. I bought extra mopping pads so that I can toss them in the washer and then dry on delicate setting. Best money I ever spent

I picked up a Sharp IQ 2 in1 vac mop for $98 at Walmart's After Thanksgiving Sale. It doesn't self empty the vac or fill the water for the mop and the mop only moves a little while being dragged around which is not as good as spinning mops. That said, I am perfectly happy for what I paid. I have a small apt with all tile and laminant and it keeps it much cleaner than my occasional mopping in the past. However I am dreaming of my next step up but at a cost of $450-650, it may be a while.

I think I’ve had her 2 years, I have replaced the roller once. But I got her at Walmart for around $150. She doesn’t empty herself, I do it. I figured I’d have to empty the deal anyway, so I wasn’t going to pay twice that! Her name is Clean Elizabeth by the way. It was that or Dustin Bieber 🤣 you can have it map your house and just go into specific rooms or do the whole house. It really is worth it!

We have several Shark IQ self-emptying robots. Our Great Pyrenees & Pyr-Berner mix are both on the sofa next to me (where it’s safe) watching one of them doing its rounds on the floor below them right now. They’ve been really helpful to say the least. The trick is to set them up to run every day & to get in the habit of cleaning them out every day as well (easy to do - takes about a minute each). Also, while they do avoid them, the dogs aren’t afraid of them like the big regular vacuum cleaner.

I have a shark matrix mop & vac. It’s okay, I didn’t get the self emptying one so I have to empty it daily with 2 high shedding dogs, the water reservoir has to be refilled almost daily as well and I only have it going in 3 rooms. I will say I’ve had it almost 15 months now and it ignores my no go zones, sometimes starts at random times and I haven’t found a way to update its software. I’ll definitely get something different next time, but I did enjoy it while it functioned properly.

I have a Shark Detect Pro on my main floor and a Shark IQ in my basement. I also have two long haired GSDs. I run the IQ daily and the Detect Pro twice a day. The rollers do tend to get hair wrapped around them but once or twice a week but I think that’s any robot vacuum. The single side brushes that come on the robots are lame. Amazon has replacements that have 3 brushes, I recommend those. The dust bin also needs to be emptied every week, not 30 days like advertised. I only have hard floors so I can’t comment on how it handles carpet. The app is terrible and I use Google Assistant to have the robots run according to my schedules.

Don't get a roomba. I got the J7+ for the pet and toy friendly avoidance options and half the time it isnt running because of a clog in the vaccuum bin or base station. The bin is usually easy to fix, but this last time it was the tube that goes to the bag (another expense i didnt have with the shark) and that required disassembly. It also burnt out its suction fan in the first month I had it, prompting a warranty replacement of the part which meant had to disassemble the unit, install the new part, and send back the defective part. Incredibly frustrating. Comparatively, my shark IQ that I sent to the basement for eating too many toys runs consistently and clogs *maybe* once every 3 months, but the shark app sucks nuts, and the model I have uses the black strips for keep-out zones so it just ran everywhere and I prayed it didnt eat any cables. Its very robust about going up and doen ledges, but it is also way more prone to tracking pet messes about, that happened once with a pile of cat vomit and I was a little traumatized.

I have the J7+ and it does get up pet hair well on hard floors, BUT it clogs constantly. It can't handle any debris larger than a quarter in diameter at most without it getting stuck in the bin due to the size of the emptying tube. I have a kid whose paper scraps freqently end up on the floor and those clog it about once every 2 weeks and prompt me to have to take apart the base. If I dodnt spend so much on it Id have thrown it away by now. My shark IQ did not have that problem, but its app sucked and it runs over a lot more stuff. It has eaten and unloaded barbie shoes into its base, wheras the roomba i always find the shoes in the unit when it throws an error.

I definitely see the utility of a robot vacuum, but I’d recommend having a good primary bagged vacuum first and then investing in a good bagged robot vacuum as a secondary. Not sure you’ll find that in your budget, so you might need to save up for it. FWIW, I have this one: https://www.tomsguide.com/reviews/shark-iq-robot-vacuum-review-map-out-and-clean-your-smart-home-for-under-dollar400 and it’s a piece of shit 3 years after buying it. It’s constantly trying to throw itself down the stairs and it gets lost a lot.

My prior vacuum is a now discontinued Shark IQ - I'm sure things have a changed a lot since then, but losing the Shark in the house has been one of my biggest gripes (gets lost at least every other day). Note, it did not have LiDAR. The S1 Pro definitely looks appealing, but I read a few people weren't thrilled with its carpet capabilities.

I just want to tell you how helpful these things are. I bought a SharkIQ (should have bought a roborock) when it was on deep discount on Prime day. What makes this different is that I have a big workshop/shed which is dusty/dirty and an absolute maze. The Shark managed over a few weeks get all the dust and dirt under control despite it not really being designed to work in this way and on rough concrete. I chose the shark specifically because it had brushes, not rubber rollers, not many with brushes and almost bought a Makita DRC300Z as that is more what is technically needed. (no HA integration and it requires connecting to the AP in the vac to control it via app, no infra mode at least when I was looking at it) Robot vacs are worth their weight in gold to many with ADHD. Many of us do not see mess, dust, dog hair etc. HA in general is scaffolding to help with my (and my wife's) neurodivergent wiring, and the vac is just a great addition to all this. Unfortunately the SharkIQ integration is having [ongoing issues with re-authentication](https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/123392) which appears to be Shark changing their API.

No. We have a 2400' house with mostly stone flooring and a few rugs. We live in Arizona so it's a bit dusty. I had a Shark IQ and it would fill it's bin pretty quickly so I thought it was doing a good job on the floors. Then I got a Roborock from Costo with a mop. I was shocked. The waste water looked like tar for about 2 weeks. SO GROSS! Now it looks just mildly cloudy. Our floors were dirty and I just didn't know it. Ick. Super happy now.

Same one here. Super happy with it. I had no idea how dirty our floors were. They looked clean. We dusted and mopped. We had a Shark IQ. We thought they were clean. But nope. They were gross. For the first 2 weeks the waste water from the Roborock looked like thick mud. Now it's just mildly cloudy. Our floors look way different. Like they had just been honed (that's a thing you do now and again with stone floors - don't ask - its a horrific procedure).

My old Roomba was retired after it found a wet dog turd and poo-buttered my entire apartment. My Shark IQ is much better but it gets tangled up or stuck fairly often. Floor grates, cords but even things like a plate of dog food (which can get gross). My Roborock does a lot better at avoiding things but a cell phone charger cord can still clog him up pretty bad. No way to avoid it, if you want a good job you really do have to pick up clutter.

Rad! Those were the two brands I was kinda thinking made sense for repairability, so it's good to have that validation. Sharks are so dang annoying cus even their website is missing major pieces (like the motorized wheels lol) and not knowing if the problem is *actually* the wheel or something else makes the $100 a hard pill to swallow when the thing was $300 in the first place. Looks like I'll be looking at some irobots or roborocks!

I have a Dream L40 Ultra (I think that's what it is) and it only cleans my first floor, which is maybe 800 sqft? I couldn't imagine not having that thing mop and vacuum every night. It's amazing. We first got a robot vacuum (Shark IQ) right after moving in because my wife wanted to vacuum every day and I thought that was crazy, I'm not spending 15 minutes each day to make lines in a rug. I will never go back, and in fact I bought my family L40 Ultra's when they were on sale for Prime day because it's such a game changer in keeping the house clean.

My shark IQ would do that. Many times we found a shoe that was in run room ended up being in another room he he he. That shark IQ was a brute. Once I did a mapping of the house, it was very graceful and gentle around the boundaries but anything such as dog toys or shoes left about would be pushed away. Basically, I had to baby proof my house for it to work more efficient Anyway, I’ve upgraded to a iRobot that’s supposed to go around any object objects in the way

I like my Shark honestly. It’s an old IQ so I am sure they have even better ones now. It’s quiet, has worked for years, self empties, you can easily get filters, picks up my hair and my cats, dust, carpet fiber, crumbs, good filter system, small dock and the vac fits under furniture. I think the Roomba is really loud got one and returned it. The Roborock is pretty big and good at mopping but worse than my shark at vacuuming. Also hard to get replacements filters and the filter system isn’t the best for allergies.

I've got a Shark something-or-other that has a "matrix clean" function (Dreame does something similar, I think) where after it finishes an area/room, it goes back and does it again running perpendicular to the run it just finished. I don't have any idea about the *actual* efficacy, but my spouse ("it's not vacuumed until you've gone over the same spot in 3 different directions") ***loves*** it. Since 'perception is reality', our carpets are cleaner because my spouse perceives them to be so.

I started with one that was $60 to see how I liked it. Now I have one that is about $300 (prime day) on the main and lower levels of our home. When the time comes, I’ll probably upgrade to a $600+ one. I enjoy Shark because of the self cleaning brush roll, but strongly recommend one with room mapping technology. I also do prep the rooms before I send out the vacuums with a visual check for spills and clearing any toys that could get stuck.

I run it a few times a week for light maintenance on hard floors. So far I like it better than my old roomba. Well it's definitely not the BEST robot vacuum, because I'm a little on the cheap side and I don't have to have the best thing, but I really like my shark vacuum because they have a patented "lint roller" that keeps pet hair and string from getting tangled or building up on the roller. It's the lidar kind with the self empty base. The self empty base is a must have imo. Running this daily keeps the pet hair tumbleweeds from taking over the house. Doesn't do great on carpet though.

I turn it on while they’re crated and I’m at work and empty it when I get home. I’ve seen on the camera the poor guy making multiple trips to self empty while in one room but it’s cut the hair buildup tenfold. To me it was worth every penny

You still have to empty the base but in my experience it allows it to do more than non self emptying. I use mine daily but I also empty the base daily once I get home. I also only use it when they’re up because they would absolutely eat it

We have a self-emptying Shark for our gsd, gsd/husky mix, and 2 cats. If it doesn't get run at least once a day, the roller brush will get clogged. We also do supplement vacuuming hard to reach spots with a stick vac.

I have a shark robot vac that does mapping and self emptying. It forces me to be a little more mindful of picking up every night and I love the mapping function because I can keep it out of certain areas depending on how good I was at preparing the house. Highly recommend!

Not BIFL, but our Shark (get the self emptying base!) has withstood 4 cats, a long haired dog, 3 adults, a toddler, and a long haired teenager for 4 years and still doing well. I was incredibly disappointed in the original roomba I tried. If you do buy a shark buy directly from them. Their customer service is phenomenal. I bought one through a home improvement store as it was on sale. It had a charging issue within 12 months and when I called Shark I was told that since I hadn’t bought from them they couldn’t cover the full replacement even under warranty. BUT if I paid shipping they would send me a new one - $34 later I had a new one on the way. Bonus points as I was able to fix the original and had two robot vacs for the price of 1+ shipping.

I have 3 and the best cleaner is by far the not smart ilife a4. They are inexpensive and run well on regular low pile carpet. Only complaint is that it sees black carpet spots as a drop and goes haywire. My ilife v80max Is finicky, battery sucks, same black carpet issue. My shark self emptying doesn't do corners and edges well due to the tiny single brush it has, the self emptying doesn't work 60% of the time due to cat hair. Just get the cheap ilife, hell, get 2 or 3 for the price. Mines lasted 8 years and counting.

I have a Shark with a base that it self empties into. Mine is scheduled to run three times a week and I empty the base once a week. I’ve got two cats, hardwood, and a lot of dust. You’d probably have to empty the base multiple times a week with two shepherds. Honestly I love my Shark. It saved me so much anxiety and time because I was constantly fighting to make my floors feel clean. Now I just have to spot clean and vacuum the corners where the robot can’t reach.

I second u/Huntit-Ownit ! Get one that has the auto empty dock. I empty mine every couple of days that way. One huge leg up for a Shark over Roomba is that the brush roller is similar to a vacuum (e.g. hard plastic), whereas the roomba is a plastic roller with a rubber cover that is DESTROYED by dog fur and you have to frequently replace. If you keep an eye on Woot they have refurbished sharks on sale pretty frequently, last one I got for $120.... Edit: Looks like Woot has one refurbished for $129!

I've tried shark and iRobot. Both self emptying. Shark lasted a few years, my iRobot is needing parts replacement after only 6 months. iRobot also requires you to buy their own waste bags. It doesn't work without them.

We have a shark with a self emptying and charging station and I love it so much more than the previous roomba. Sharks clean in a stripe or grid pattern whereas roomba is a seemingly random pattern that drives me nuts. Our shark also lets me pick the level of suction eco, normal, max (I almost always use max) but that feature gives more control over the noise, and also has an option for what they call matrix clean but it’s basically a grid, it’ll do stripes all one way then perpendicular to really get everything. I’ve got 3 kids home all day and it does great with tons of food, hair etc. I use my big vacuum weekly on the main rug, maybe monthly on kids room rugs and shark for all other nearly daily maintenance. The big thing for me is the app and the map. Once it learns the house you can send it to just individual rooms to clean which is a lifesaver with small kids as rarely are all the floors clean at once. My kids know and have learned how to get a room clean and “roomba ready” (shark vacuum just habit), so they go pick it up, I send the robot and it’s amazing. Occasionally with an app update your robot will act like it’s lost and doesn’t know the map and you have to remap the house which is annoying, but it’s still so worth it to me

Yeah, it was a process for us, but we finally got down to a manageable amount of toys to where my 3yo can help us pick up most nights, or at least get everything into the playroom and then we block that room off and run the vacuum as we're taking the kids up to bed. We have a small cabinet in the playroom so we can rotate toys, and I'll let her take one extra thing out at a time, but then she has to clean up before we get anything else out. I keep most of the multi pieces toys in there so it doesn't get too chaotic. With my 14mo walking around dropping crumbs everywhere it's nice to clean at least the downstairs most days.

I'm a SAHM and we just run ours as we're taking the kids up to bed each night. We also have an upstairs one (claimed our warranty for it running loud on our hardwood downstairs and they never asked for the other one back) and that one I run a couple times a week, but I just send it into the kids' rooms individually when they're downstairs playing and then run it for the rest of the upstairs. It doesn't seem to ever wake them from naps either, but we do have light white noise running in both their rooms. ETA: OP, if you're going to get one, splurge for the self emptying because if you have to empty it every time you're less likely to use it. We only have to empty ours like once a month and I have a 14mo and a 3yo who drop crumbs everywhere. I don't know the exact model, but both of ours are Shark and they work great for the price point. (And I think Costco sometimes has deals on them)

Not who you asked, but we have a Shark with a large self emptying bin and that thing is great for the price point. We've had it 2 years so far.

I’m obsessed with my shark robot vacuum that self empties. I run it 1-3 times and day, I’ve had it for 4 hours. Still works great and I love having a clean floor!

We got a shark vacuum from Amazon on a black friday/cyber monday deal, came out to about $300 or so. I specifically chose one with the base to auto dump into. We have a long haired 97 lbs dog and 3 cats. The vacuum goes through the house once a day every day. It is noticeable when it doesn't run. Sometimes it gets stuck, either physically on an object, or the long hair is too much and it clogs up the roller and we have to clear it before it can run again. But for the most part, itnis really good at maintaining the floors to look decent. We have a mix of carpet and hard floors. It doesn't get everything off the carpet, but it does enough for the hair to not be noticeable. Without the daily robot vacuums, there are noticeable puffs of fur all over the floor. It definitely was a relief on my mental worries of keeping the floors clean when we got it. I could tell the difference within the first few days.
