"A good robovac is a life changer. Even a $350 basic S8. It is a great place to start. ... I promise you that you will not be disappointed by a basic S8. It will change your life even if it can't fit under every piece of furniture you own. ... My two S8s just finished vacuuming our entire house in about 46 minutes. ... While my floors were being cleaned, I sat comfortably on our patio in the cool shade with a slight breeze and composed my far too long response to you while sipping a diet soda and relaxing. ... I will have to spend about four minutes maintaining my two S8s. This will be my entire contribution to my home floor cleaning effort for today. Four minutes!"

"Like 500$ these robots are currently the steal of the century ... You can get a mova p10 pro ultra (cannot remove its mops), equivalent to the l40/x40 for 500$ after a discount code"

"I got the Q5 Pro for $139. ... costs $450 less than what I paid for the S6 ... it is the best value option out there imo."

"It picks up all the cat fur, all the dog fur, all the litter, all the human hair."

"I have one teenager who’s messy and a dog who sheds like it’s her job. It’s been a game changer."

"I’ve seen on the camera the poor guy making multiple trips to self empty while in one room but it’s cut the hair buildup tenfold."

"They have mapping and self-emptying, which for me are absolutely essential features. ... We've had others without the self-emptying feature and I never emptied them regularly enough, which rendered them less effective."

"I’ve seen on the camera the poor guy making multiple trips to self empty while in one room but it’s cut the hair buildup tenfold."

"With three they can just make it to a full week for emptying. ... Life changing."

"The Anti-Tangle brush is actually Anti-Tangle. All my previous vacuums would get hair tangled in a single run - I'd clean them at least once a week (neato way more) to get all the hair out. After 24 hours, I see 0 hair stuck. Not one. ... That being said I LOVE the anti-tangle brush. 3 Months and I haven't had to clean the brush one time. It's literally perfect for me."

"I think the MOVA Z50 Ultra is best for those who have long hair or pets that shed and value mopping as much as vacuuming. ... People with long hair will enjoy how it wont tangle in the robot’s main brush"

"One huge leg up for a Shark over Roomba is that the brush roller is similar to a vacuum (e.g. hard plastic), whereas the roomba is a plastic roller with a rubber cover that is DESTROYED by dog fur and you have to frequently replace."

"I think its hands down the best all around option right now, especially once you hook it up to the water line and drain, i run it daily in our house and we got rid of our cleaning help because of it."

"I have an even thicker rug than this and my Curv has no issues ... It's the reason I bought mine because I have an even thicker rug than that and no robot could even climb onto it"

"I absolutely do not regret buying the robot vacuum. ... My room is a lot cleaner and dust-free now, and I can tell just by wiping my floor with a wet toilet paper and seeing barely anything picked up. ... I've been getting allergens a ton less, most of which not even in my room. ... All this for the commitment of a weekly emptying is miles more convenient than vacuuming traditionally, as opposed to making a few taps on my phone. ... looking back it was definitely worth the investment."

"it is also way more prone to tracking pet messes about, that happened once with a pile of cat vomit and I was a little traumatized."

"if you take if off the dock yourself it loses the mop function unless you restart it literally 10 times"

"for the love of God please don get a roomba combo model. They don work… ever."

"The j7 got stuck often, maybe 1 out of 4 cleanings it either sucked up a cat toy or jammed itself under something."

"or the rollers don’t load up with hair and melt the CHM."

"I had many times where sonar audio devices flat out wouldn’t work properly and required a restart or reinstall to fix, and I got tired of it."

"Doesn’t work for me. I have a husky so a bit of dog hair and it struggles. ... It goes around it as if it’s an obstruction. ... It then gets trapped in the roller. ... There’s no cutting mechanism so it blocks up quickly and the vacuum isn’t powerful enough to suck it into its storage area. ... I’m not talking about a big clunk of hair either."

"Oh yeah, the 30 day bin does not apply to shepherd and husky owners in any way shape or form!!"

"The claim of 30-days before emptying is BS, as that’s based on a non pet hair household. ... I auto run it 3 times a week and empty maybe 1-2 times a week."

"It gives up quickly and does not map well. ... For example, first time out, it was unable to leave the kitchen. ... So it mapped the kitchen and a space outside the kitchen that it could see was called a room. But it was only able to see 30% of the actual room. ... It did not update the map as the dreame would each run. ... Sent out for a remap. Got the center room and failed to get the hallway that did not have a threshold to cross, got 20% of another room it could't get in and didn't place a wall where there was a wall."

"lost of navigation. ... When come out from the dock station, it somehow lost direction. ... Had to reset it and remap again. ... Almost do it 3 time a weeks. ... lost of connection"

"the bot frequently and randomly loses the map so you have to babysit it as you help it remap, and you have to redraw all the virtual boundaries."

We have the Roomba j7+ We did a fair amount of research before getting it and watched YT videos comparing all the different makes and models and this was highly rated for pet hair. It’s pretty good - but like others have said you do have to spend time cleaning the hair out of the wheels which is an annoying and dirty job and also I find that I don’t run it very often because the sound makes my dog bark so I have to only run it when the dog isn’t in the house, which isn’t that often (of course, I could try to get the dog used to it, but I haven’t taken the time to do that) As an alternative to a robot we also recently bought the Shark Auto Detect and we are loving it! It’s cordless and really lightweight. It’s so easy to maneuver picks up tons of hair and has really good rollers that don’t get stuck on hair. I actually was looking forward to vacuuming today, which is crazy. I never thought I would say that!

Well it's definitely not the BEST robot vacuum, because I'm a little on the cheap side and I don't have to have the best thing, but I really like my shark vacuum because they have a patented "lint roller" that keeps pet hair and string from getting tangled or building up on the roller. It's the lidar kind with the self empty base. The self empty base is a must have imo. Running this daily keeps the pet hair tumbleweeds from taking over the house. Doesn't do great on carpet though.

After three years, I just had to get rid of our shark AI becasue our pup had an accident, and well the rest is history. I loved our shark and while I'm inclined to purchase the same one again, I'm wondering if there is something better for no more than $500.

I had one of the higher end Sharks, can't remember the model, and I thought I liked it. It touted laser mapping, advanced schedules, etc. But then I got the Roborock Q Revo and it absolutely blew me away; made me realize how shitty the Shark was. At every level it's better: primarily it cleans way better, but also the app is better, it's actually easy to get replacement parts, and a ton of minor things that make it feel polished, like the robot will announce on its own device speaker what's happening, like why it got stuck or why it's returning to a dock. Contrast this with a few friends of mine that have even worse vacuums than the Shark: theirs get stuck all the time, can't find their way home to the dock, they end up not using it at all. Long story short, based on my experience it's absolutely worth spending good money to get a good robot vacuum.

Just bought one for my dad’s house actually. So I can give a vaguely informed opinion, rather than just moan about them from a position of complete ignorance, like some of the other commenters.  Over the last 20 years the tech has improved, but isn’t perfect. This one (Shark) uses LiDAR to map the house. But the software is a bit crappy (for example if it misses a room when mapping because something was in the way, you have to map the entire house again.) Having the LiDAR based map means it’s far less haphazard and much quicker to clean.  However these are suited to large, empty ish rooms, not your typical small British house with stuff getting in the way. The robot can spend a lot of its time fidgeting around the obstacles.  The suction is OK for basic cleaning but if you have pet hair on carpets, forget about it. This model empties itself into a base when it returns, which is handy, otherwise you have to clean them out on each use, which negates some of the time you would have saved.  It’s useful for a house with a person who struggles to manoeuvre a large heavy vacuum, and which doesn’t get too dirty. (My dad has a cleaner who will clean it “properly” once a week.) For generally keeping on top of things, it’s handy. But in no way would this model be fit to replace a proper full sized vacuum cleaner.

I've got a Shark something-or-other that has a "matrix clean" function (Dreame does something similar, I think) where after it finishes an area/room, it goes back and does it again running perpendicular to the run it just finished. I don't have any idea about the *actual* efficacy, but my spouse ("it's not vacuumed until you've gone over the same spot in 3 different directions") ***loves*** it. Since 'perception is reality', our carpets are cleaner because my spouse perceives them to be so.

Good unpopular opinion apparently. I had a coworker that would vacuum without glasses and miss half the floor. I feel the same way about robot vacuums I currently have the top of the line shark with ai and can’t it to work reliably, maybe I don’t have the best setup. I kinda prefer pulling out my shark, or Dyson and knowing for a fact it’s clean.

I was skeptical about getting one, saw my inlaws brought a cheap one and it was ok, they have now had it for about 5 years, we have a 5 year old and decided let's get one, we went for a shark with Lidar. This is how good it is, I forgot to stop the scheduled clean as it was Christmas and her play room is a mess, it actually cleaned where it could get, didn't suck up any of the board game that was out on the floor  and didn't get stuck. The issue we have is the docking station is big and we don't have anywhere to store it so it's out of site.  We have it on every other day, and I thought I would check to see what it does, if every other day is too much. I emptied before it cleaned and I was shocked at what it picked up.

4 cats and hair about as long as yours. Shark robot with no-wrap. The beater has blades instead of brushes. Now “no wrap” doesn’t mean “no wrap”. The hair migrates to the ends of the beater bar. Still have to unclog the thing at least once per cycle (run it 1x/wk).
