"Self-emptying. This takes us from having to empty the bin daily to changing the bag weekly."
"best vacuuming particularly if you pair it with an auto empty dock"
"The second one I got was self emptying so it can continue all by itself and I really appreciate it. I only have to empty the main basin once a week and that's it. Super convenient"

"Duo-rollers are amazing with hair and carpets."
"Going to the Q8 with dual rollers has been a night and day difference"
"I bought a barely used self-emptying Roborock on Facebook marketplace a few months ago and it is hands down one of the best purchases/decisions I’ve ever made. One dog and a cat and I was losing my mind trying to keep up with my floors."

"Dual counter-rotating rollers instead of a single brush. ... They pick up more and you don't have to clean them out as often because hair doesn't wind around them as easily. ... We probably have to clean the rollers off once a week or so."

"watching it move right up to furniture but not quite touch it"
"it has obstacle avoidance ... I was susprised how good it is even compared to much more expensive S8."
"It maps very well ... The software is top tier though, it maps and doesn’t fall down stairs and didn’t need help finding all of the rooms."

"Roborock has the best navigation software of any robot vacuum in my experience (we've also had Eufy and a Roomba)."

"It would clog up"
"the vacuum itself isnt enough to really suck stuff out of the carpet, more just pick up things on top. I treat it more like a broom than anything else"

"in both of them, the robot gets stuck and the worst thing is that it leaves the dirt that the mop has accumulated there, since being more adherent, it stays there and I have to clean them by hand."
"The self mopping feature imo is not worth it"
"I regret not buying a robot with true mopping (I use Roborock Q8 with fake mopping). ... Yes 😂 I bought more mop attachments to see if that helps"
I have a Q8 Max+ (newer model) but do not rate is mopping capabilities at all
I just got a roborock q8 and it's awesome. I'm in Canada. Pretty simple to set up too.
I love my roborock. Its a q8 max, had it 6 months with a golden retriever and 2 cats and has been working really good. I've never had less hair in my house. Its my first robot vacuum tho so not much to compare it to. I chose roborock both because it was on sale and people online said the mapping is really easy (which it seems to be).
Thirding roborock. Love mine. I splurged on the self emptying model….totally worth it.
Get one with self mob cleaning, I regret not buying a robot with true mopping (I use Roborock Q8 with fake mopping). I looked at youtube reviews and it looked like most top brands have stepped up their game due to competition and for your dollar range performance wise there weren't much difference. They all looked good.
I’d argue there’s no such thing as buy it for life vacuum robot because it’s tech. However, we did recently get a Roborock Q8 Max to replace our Neato Botvac D3 and have been very happy so far. It’s well within your budget and has been great for our 1 dog 1 cat household.
We have one from Roborock Q8 max and it's the best I've ever had (for vacuuming). It recognizes obstacles very well (toys from my dog and kids) and it avoids them. Would recommend it dearly!
That's the really, really old ones. They're not great. The new ones map the environment, and do a proper pass of all areas. Like the Roborock Q8 or Q5 are great.
sounds like the [Roborock Q8 Max](https://www.reddit.com/r/VacuumsTips/comments/1qweaz2/top_robot_vacuums_that_work_well_without_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) (non auto-empty) would fit what you want. LiDAR mapping fixes the whole “crash into everything and miss rooms” problem, it’s solid on carpet and long hair, and the dock is low enough to hide under a cabinet. You just have to empty the bin yourself every few runs.
If you want the best performance for your four dogs, the Roborock Q8 Max+ is the way to go. It'll save you time and keep your floors looking great between your regular vacuuming session.
i kinda like how my q8 max+ looks https://preview.redd.it/2x3fo6dphgjf1.jpeg?width=516&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce8ff7bf7d5ef5862926ab0c2f6c09f5b5771a14
i thought it looked nice and it's compact too
it detects walls and unmovable things pretty well, the obstacle avoidance is for stuff like cables i have one of the cheaper models (q8 max+) and ir avoids most objects unless they are transparent or very small
mine doesnt do an outstanding job with obstacles as it still sucks up cords and stuff but the more expensive ones have all sorts of crossing lasers, headlights and cameras to detect them
i have the q8 max+ basically same cleaning system and it's amazing for cat hair
