Ampex Bertin (Long/Wide) mats. Ordered them online from Bass Pro and they came rather quickly. They're similar to the Megamat but much cheaper. I've found it to be well worth the price. You'd have to get 2, but it's still cheaper than even the Megamat Duo. We actually have 3 because we wanted extra room for the dogs (well really one dog, he's a big dude, the other would fit with us on two mats). You could strap them together so they don't slide apart. We camp at high elevation and it gets fairly cold at night but these things stayed warm (especially after they cooked in the tent during the first full day). Highly recommend if you don't mind having to strap them together.
I'm a pretty amateur camper, but ampex 4 season long/wide has served me well so far. Its a 4 inch air mattress that inflates via a bag that comes with it, open the bag to let in air, then seal it and squeeze the air into the mattress.
I have the Ampex Reland Long/Wide and have been happy with it's performance. It's the most comfortable sleeping pad I own and has kept me perfectly warm in temps down to the low-20s. I also have a Klymit static V2 that I've used for years for temps above 40. I really like the static V but if I had to pick between them I'd go with the Ampex no question, I really recommend getting the long/wide version if you can, it is much more comfortable than the standard size as you don't have your arms falling of the sides and have a lot of room to roll around.
Same here! The extra width on the Ampex is a game changer if you toss and turn like I do. I camped with it in similar temps (mid-20s) and was surprised at how warm I stayed compared to my other pad, which is fine for summer but not so much for shoulder season.
This is the answer. Self inflates offer superior comfort with the added stability of air. There's a bunch of 3 inch self inflate camp pads out there. Ampex at Cabelas is like $90. No reason to break the bank. Just remember to store it at home unrolled but valve left open. Mine is behind the couch.
the Klymit has its place but the Ampex is going to perform better for you
Yeah, the Megamat is HUGE. Thanks for the input, I really have never heard anything negative about the Ultra series, so kind of just leaning towards getting one of those. The last pad I had was supposedly 3.3” thick with similar baffles to the 5R ( https://ampexgear.com/collections/camp-pads/products/lightweight-camping-pad-long-inflatable-sleeping-mat ) and it was not comfortable, but I’m thinking that because it was cheaper, the material wasn’t stretchy enough or something.
